Not only can you listen to KGPL you can add songs and program your own playlists. Right now most of the songs are from the Live Music Archive, Jamendo, ccmixter, and Delta Boogie Radio.

archive.org
jamendo.com
ccmixter.com
deltaboogie.com/radio

The Delta Boogie Radio link above is the dialup version for those like me who are bandwidth deprived. There is also a hifi version.

Anyone can add songs as long as they are available on the internet as mp3 files. Then you can program your own playlists for anyone to enjoy. Widgets and embeds allow you to post these songs and playlists on your websites or myspace.

Please add your favorite music and use the comments to discuss great music on the internet.

Thanks,

God on the Radio

Jim Jewell, chief operating officer of a small evangelical advocacy organization, mailed a letter to supporters earlier this year. "As I walked the aisles of the National Religious Broadcasters convention," he began, "I found that it was easy to sign up for luxury accommodations in Jamaica or a tour of Israel.... What I knew I wouldn’t find was information on how we as Christians could be faithful in obeying God’s call to care for His creation, or material on environmental stewardship."

Jewell knew this information would not be available because his organization, the Evangelical Environmental Network, had been denied permission to set up a booth in the National Religious Broadcaster’s exhibit hall. NRB is a trade association representing more than 1,400 evangelical broadcasters and related organizations. The "Statement of Faith" to which all NRB members must ascribe makes no mention of politics—their credo is biblical infallibility, the divinity of Jesus, and salvation through the Holy Spirit. But EEN’s account of its rejection by NRB suggests that NRB uses its influence to perpetuate a narrow conservative evangelical agenda that many Christians are beginning to reconsider.

Obama on Attack: New Ad Hits McCain on...Harleys?!

Mon Aug 11, 2008 at 12:48:50 PM PDT

Barack Obama's new policy of hitting McCain on local issues in battleground states is starting to come to full life.  First there was the DHL Job Losses in Ohio.  Next was his ad on Yucca Mountain in Nevada.

Now we come to Wisconsin and the issue of...Harleys?!  That's right, Obama is taking on McCain with a new radio ad that uses one of McCain's quotes from the Sturgis Festival and turns it against him by painting him as anti-trade and anti-American industry (Harley-Davidson, of course, based in Wisconsin):

Uplifting email of the day (much needed to finish on a good note this crushing week)

Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 05:17:59 PM PDT

Got a short and sweet email from my good friend Makbula Nassar (مقبولة نصار), a Palestine reporter who does radio and print out of Haifa.  She was recently interviewed by Haaretz.com and proudly sent the link to the buddies. I thought some of you might find it a great read, thus gladly I share.

Help With Internet Radio

Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 06:59:36 AM PDT

I know this is short, but my searches aren't turning up anything useful, and the opportunity to tap the collective wisdom here is too tempting.

A friend of mine and I had a radio show in college, and recently had an idea to start a progressive internet radio talk show. The problem is, we live on opposite coasts. Does anyone know of any tools that would help make this possible? We're both using Macs, if that helps/hurts the chances of this working.

Thanks for your help

Major Sell-Outs - Product "Integration" and Propoganda Peddlers

Mon Jul 28, 2008 at 03:08:06 PM PDT

I'm pulling my hair out and you should be, too.  Wrigley has commissioned hip hop performers (I'm not going to call them artists anymore) to re-make their jingles.  And then releasing them as songs.  Putting them on albums.  Watching them rise to No. 4 on the Billboard chart.  All  before revealing they are, in fact, delivery systems for gum.

The campaign was conceived and executed by Mr. Stoute, a former senior executive at Interscope Records who counts rapper Jay-Z as a partner in his business. The idea was to connect the hit song and the jingle in listener's minds. That way, Mr. Stoute says, "by the time the new jingle came out, it was already seeded properly within popular culture."

There are a ton of folks out there whose expertise in marketing, advertising and sociology (not to mention law) far exceeds my own, so I hope you all chime in about this ridiculous development.  It makes my skin crawl to watch the gasping behemoth that is the modern music business (multinational corporations) further pervert an already herpetic art.

Hate Nation: Right Wing Radio and its Poisonous Price

Mon Jul 28, 2008 at 10:47:49 AM PDT

Most conservatives will tell you that they abhor the tragic violence in Tennessee, and that they condemn it.  But they also will most likely deny that any of their actions or beliefs could possibly be the cause of it, be it their help in the emergence and dominance of hate radio by the right wing, or their seemingly endless and unconditional support for a thoroughly unconstitutional Presidency.

What they most definitely will not tell you is that we've seen this pattern of violence before. That the rhetoric they espouse was used by another regime to begin the process of exterminating millions.

Bravo! Obama takes the gloves off & Pounds"McSame" in new Radio Ad

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 02:01:54 PM PDT

Obama takes it to the street on this one folks!

It's been a bad week for John McCain. We've all counted at least 12 blunders by him or his surrogates (whether the networks places it in a cable loop or not). And now Barack Obama has made it worse for him, with a doozy of a radio ad, we've all been waiting for.

Yesterday, Obama proclaimed "We don't need another Dr. Phil". Well, today, he created a stinging response to John McCain's claim that Obama would raise peoples taxes, that also cuts to McCain's lack of honesty, and being McBush.  Sen. Obama actually calls him "McSame", while comparing him to Karl Rove & George Bush in the ad! No joke! There's so much material here.

Somebody got "McSlained"!

Update: The direct player is now available in the body.

Fighting Talk Radio, Needing Obama, and Dissing Internal Combustion Engines

Mon Jul 07, 2008 at 01:36:41 PM PDT

I've had people here say that talk radio (Limbaugh) and the like simply don't matter any longer.  I disagree.

The lies, inconsistencies and propaganda on conservative talk radio, virtually unopposed by progressives in that medium, are extremely important.  Also, Mr. Limbaugh just had his contract renewed, so unless he drops dead soon we can look forward to him being around for another decade.

Why aren't liberals and progressives better in the radio format?  I'm not sure.  Maybe today's neocons and conservatives are simply good at lying with a straight face and getting people to believe them.  Certainly they like to repeat themselves endlessly...

Imus Story:  Nothing Shocking About It

Wed Jun 25, 2008 at 05:31:46 AM PDT

In front of the microphone, he looks like a scarecrow in a ridiculous hat.  The trouble is, his act is just as stiff ... and his character just as substantial.  The surprising thing about Imus' recent issues is how people are surprised by his offensive behavior.

Beyond the scarecrow himself, there are more important questions.  #1, Why did the networks give him the stage for so long? #2, As unlistenable as Imus is, should all such behavior be removed from terrestrial radio, or does that mean censorship and thwarted freedom?

Don Imus Defends Adam "Pacman" Jones Comment

Tue Jun 24, 2008 at 06:40:18 AM PDT

On this morning's edition of Imus In The Morning, Don Imus claimed that his remarks yesterday about Adam "Pacman" Jones were widely misinterpreted. He says that his comments were sarcasm and that he meant to insinuate that Mr. Jones had been arrested six times because of racial profiling.

This is a kind of difficult situation to read. Obviously this was going to be Imus' defense whether legitimate or not - but I think it boils down to one thing. If he DOESN'T KNOW who Pacman Jones is it very well might not be racist. But if he DOES KNOW who Pacman Jones is it seems clearly racist. Sorry I-man but this particular African American is not the victim of racial profiling - Pacman is just a legitimately crazy dude that seeks out trouble. I mean honestly, who makes it rain at a Vegas strip club and then makes a scene to get the money back??

Anyways, I don't really know whether to believe Imus or not but here is the full audio of his defense. Give it a listen and weigh in with your own thoughts and opinions:

Don Imus Says Something Racist (again) - Audio

Mon Jun 23, 2008 at 09:55:47 AM PDT

This morning on Don Imus' radio program the controversial host seems to have done the unthinkable. When hearing about Adam "Pacman" Jones, the troubled NFL cornerback who missed the '07 season due to suspension... Imus asked:

"What color is he?"
re: "He's African American"
"Well there you go... now we know"

This was in response to hearing that Adam "Pacman" Jones had been arrested six times, involved in various nightclub altercations etc.

So what do you think about this latest gaffe from Imus? Is it "nappy headed ho" all over again? Do you think the comments were racist? (they certainly appear to be.. and I actually don't mind Imus in general)

Here is the audio clip - weigh in with your own thoughts and opinions:

Geek Diary - Your own Radio station - and Penny Evans

Tue Jun 17, 2008 at 07:55:12 PM PDT

Even though this is a political site. I'm sure tired of Hillary Diaries. Torture. Justice department. Constitution. Impeachment. Corruption. Election 2008. Whitey. You know, it's tedious sometimes. So this is about how to enjoy yourself.

I'm a self-employed software engineer (i.e. running a non-profit) and so I'm around the house/office all the time. My local NPR station moved its antenna, so I now have trouble receiving them. They (KUNC in Greeley, CO) played "Diverse Music", an eclectic brand of different music, and I enjoyed the idea that I might hear "another brick in the wall" only a few minutes after Vivaldi's "Spring". Also, I move around the house a lot, and might wander from the office to the kitchen to the garage and back again, and I disliked interrupting the soundscape. Especially on the weekend, I want to hear all the NPR stuff, from "Car Guys" and "wait, wait" to "splendid table" and "Weakened Condition"

And Penny Evans was a Vietnam War Widow - more below the fold..

Reagan Urges Infantcide [update x3]

Mon Jun 16, 2008 at 09:25:39 PM PDT

I have heard a lot of hateful speech in my day. Being a lesbian, I've seen and heard things that would make a sailor pass out. However, Michael Reagan, the son of the former President has made one of the most outlandish, disgusting statements I have ever...and I mean...EVER heard.

Fun with Nature - The Electromagnetic Spectrum II

Thu May 15, 2008 at 09:00:08 PM PDT

Yesterday I gave what was an introduction to this topic and mentioned the radiation that most people are familiar with, alpha, beta, and gamma.  I was called to task about mentioning alpha and beta by some readers since they are not electromagnetic, but I still thought that it was important to mention them and why they are not electromagnetic.

Two other common forms of radiation are not electromagnetic either, neutrons and cosmic rays.  Neutrons are typically produced in nuclear reactors, and cosmic rays are extremely high velocity atomic nuclei originating in space.  Now on to purely electromagnetic energy.

OR-SEN: Thom Hartmann, Co-Host Vote for Novick

Sat May 10, 2008 at 01:30:47 PM PDT

[crossposted at Loaded Orygun, Oregon's progressive community...]

Does this qualify as an endorsement? On Friday, during the KPOJ Morning Show in Portland featuring national broadcaster Thom Hartmann, he and broadcasting colleague Carl Wolfson divulged their Senate votes while taking a call from a 70-year old Aloha voter who is also going with Steve.

Click the link for the audio, here's the transcript:

Thom Hartmann: Ben in Aloha, nice to welcome you to the  show, Ben.

Ben in Aloha: Hey, thank you guys, I would really like to  thank that lady for keeping the faith out there. And I would also like to  mention Steve Novick's campaign. I'm 70 years old and I think that Steve is the  best chance that we have to move Oregon forward in the Senate --

Thom: I would tell you Ben, I voted for him yesterday. We  mailed in our ballots this morning.[emph me]
