Hillary Clinton: Heroic Warrior and Innocent Victim
Mon May 05, 2008 at 07:39:13 AM PDT
Hillary Clinton lied. She lied about Bosnia sniper fire. She lied about why she said it (sleep deprivation, misspoke, there really was danger of attack, an age issue). This is the most under-reported issue of the campaign.
I wrote about this earlier in my posts here and here, but let’s review for a minute. In a nationwide debate, with millions of viewers watching, with the "gotcha" moderators Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopolous staring her in the face, Hillary spoke these words:
Winning over Clinton Supporters
Fri May 02, 2008 at 05:56:13 PM PDT
I just had to share this with you guys...
My wife just told me about her lunch hour debate with a Clinton-supporting friend. When they got around to discussing the topic of electability, her friend insisted that Hillary was clearly more electable, citing her great Experience as an important factor.
My wife's coy response to this was, "Well, if by experience you mean experience dodging sniper fire, then no, Barack doesn't have comparable experience."
Does Ms MyDD agree with me that Hillary is toast?
Sat Apr 19, 2008 at 11:29:32 PM PDT
I wrote my first diary about a month ago. It was about Hillary's sniper fire problem, and how it might mean the end of her campaign. Well, turns out Hillary has managed to survive since then, but it looks like maybe my original theory might now have more evidence to support it.
And the world-famous Alegre might agree...
Barack Obama: Grace Under Sniper Fire. (With Video!)
Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 12:53:51 PM PDT
As I finally clear my head of all the despicable things I just saw in the first presidential debate in over a month, it suddenly dawned on me that the next President of the United states just survived a full ambush.
Spooky: Mark Penn's book the cause of "Snipergate"?
Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 11:43:48 PM PDT
Okay, so this is spooky.
I was reading Ezra Klein's excellent thumbs-down review of Mark Penn's Microtrends, to better understand why this man ever has a job. And Ezra quotes an amazing passage that could explain where Hillary Clinton got the idea for Snipergate (not to mention impressively ... perhaps too impressively ... predicting Wright-gate).
Here's the quote:
Ask anyone in politics and they will agree—they face "snipers" every day who are trying to find one flinch, one out-of-place word to put on Drudge or YouTube.

How Many Lies Does It Take To Sink A Presidential Run?
Mon Apr 07, 2008 at 12:01:06 PM PDT
How many lies does it take before a presidential candidate is no longer viable for the presidency?
1?
2?
12??????
1. Hillary Lied about her being against the Columbia Trade Deal:
Clinton Aide Met on Trade Deal:
Hillary Clinton's chief campaign strategist met with Colombia's ambassador to the U.S. on Monday to discuss a bilateral free-trade agreement, a pact the presidential candidate opposes.
Clinton's top aide pushing trade deal she claims to oppose:
This is a pretty remarkable act of hypocrisy: during the past month, Hillary Clinton has repeatedly and falsely attacked Barack Obama on NAFTA, claiming that his top economic adviser told the Canadian government to ignore Obama's anti-NAFTA rhetoric. Now her chief strategist is working with the Colombian government to enact a trade deal she claims to oppose?
It's unbelievable -- literally.

The One Hundred Dollar Lie
Sun Apr 06, 2008 at 03:48:52 PM PDT
Why do the Clintons lie so much? Is it just a reflex or is it some carefully thought out plan? If it is a plan, it is not working. Not a day goes by that yet another Clinton myth is not exploded.
Today's exposed lie is about the moving story about a woman who dies for lack of a $100. It shows all the signs of a classic Clinton lie. Attention to detail, vague sourcing, repetition at multiple venues. A perfect story but one for one small matter: it is not true.
Hey, Hillary: Even My Eight-Year-Old Gets It!
Fri Apr 04, 2008 at 11:14:51 AM PDT
Woke up early this morning in the middle of a driving Texas hailstorm and flipped on the TV to see if things were better in other parts of the world. Still haven't broken the habit of tuning in Morning Joe yet, although I AM working on it....
Flipped on MSNBC and, as I took my first slug of coffee, was treated to footage of Hillary on Leno, yukking it up over her lies about Bosnian sniper fire.
I snarled so loud in response that I woke the small person up -- and, after some snuggling that lasted until the next time they rolled the tape, my eight-year-old, Sadie, had some choice observations for Hills:
Sniper Fire?!?!?

Another little girl in a Clinton video speaks out
Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 08:51:09 AM PDT
First it was the 3am little girl, now grown, speaking out for Barack Obama. Now it's the little girl in the Bosnia video!
"It is an ugly thing for a politician to tell lies,' she said. "We had problems for years, and I don't like when someone lies about them. It makes us look bad."
Story at the NY Post.
Did Hillary Drop the Snipers in as Diversion ?
Sun Mar 30, 2008 at 06:34:13 AM PDT
Was it a calculated gamble? Conspicuously dropped in to the rhetoric as the dark milestone of 4000 deaths and the somber anniversary of 5 years in a clearly illegal, unprecedented, immoral , and completely botched war approached and was set to remind all who the Hell got us in this, via a stupid vote????????
Here is a real interesting Op Ed in the NY Times-- NYTimes OP ED
What’s been lost in the furor over Mrs. Clinton’s Bosnia fairy tale is that her disastrous last recycling of it, the one that blew up in her face, kicked off her major address on the war, timed to its fifth anniversary. Still unable to escape the stain of the single most damaging stand in her public career, she felt compelled to cloak herself, however fictionally, in an American humanitarian intervention that is not synonymous with quagmire.
Clinton as a parent
Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 08:24:04 PM PDT
Over the weekend, Obama talked about splashing with his kids in a Virgin Island swimming pool. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton was defending her "mis-speaking" about past experiences with Chelsea under sniper fire in Tulzla, Bosnia. In fact, the Bosnia trip took place after Tuzla was perfectly safe. The trip was specifically designed to show off the successes of the Clinton Administration's peace-making efforts there.
General to HRC's Vet Supporters: Her Dishonor Is Your Dishonor (UPDATED)
Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 08:49:06 AM PDT
Major General (Retired) Walter L. Stewart, Jr. has written an open letter to Hillary Clinton in which he calls on military service persons and veterans to renounce their support for Hillary Clinton:
Valor theft degrades every service member and veteran, and, as a point of honor, I call on the former admirals, generals, and service veterans who are publicly in support of Senator Clinton to renounce that support. Continue it, and her dishonor is your dishonor.
Hillary Clinton's "misremembering" of sniper fire has made her a joke in many circles (e.g., hello Sinbad), but for the veterans I know (and I know lots of them), they're actually pretty pissed.
This Will Nail Hillary Once and For All...
Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 09:41:30 AM PDT
My sister, who is graduating from law school in May, brought up a very interesting point that the MSM hasn’t gotten regarding Sniper-Gate. If we move this argument forward and continue to pound, we can bring Hillary down once and for all:
Waiting for Chelsea in Tuzla, March 96
Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 11:07:46 AM PDT
It was groundhog day at Tuzla Airbase. Three months into our operations at the MND North headquarters and every minute of everyday was the same. We worked half-day schedules, yeah that's right, 12 hour shifts with no days off. There were two hundred of us there playing solitaire and Doom on our networked computers. The CG was an asshole and banging some chick (alleged by none other than the Sergeant Major of the Army who was going down for banging some other chick not his wife). That was the proximate cause of our CG's "early retirement." But I digress.

Me and Hillary, Back in the 'Nam....
Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 06:22:48 AM PDT
Sure, I'm a die-hard Obama supporter -- but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to give credit where credit is due.
Hillary says she's been tested, she's been vetted, she's got the experience needed to serve effectively as Commander in Chief...and my wartime experiences with her definitely back up that claim up.
I bumped into Hillary -- literally -- in the late 60s, when we were both thrown into the air when the bar we were drinking in was blown up by the Cong. The rest, as they say, is history.
