Gov't investigates oil market / Foxx in bed with big oil (ew)

Thu May 29, 2008 at 12:59:44 PM PDT

Here in NC-05 we are dealing with a Congressional Representative (Fill 'er up Foxx) that not only accepts campaign money from Big Oil but also owns oil stock and then turns around and votes in the best interest of oil companies instead of us, the people that she is supposed to represent.

This week, her Democratic opponent, Roy Carter, is holding her feet to the fire and has demanded that she sell her stock and return the donations.  I am so glad that we finally have a candidate that is willing to run a real campaign that holds Foxx accountable for her actions and votes.

The news gets even better today---

According to financial disclosure records, Foxx has owned between $15,001 and $50,000 of stock in Chevron Corporation since 2004. She has also accepted campaign contributions from the Petroleum Marketers Association of America as well as Exxon Mobil.

NC-05: Republicans on the Run

Thu May 22, 2008 at 12:35:14 PM PDT

North Carolina’s fifth district, spanning the northwest corner of the state, is currently represented by second term congresswoman Virginia Foxx, who, in addition to being in lockstep with President Bush on nearly every issue, has voted against SCHIP, Hurricane Katrina Relief, and extending the Voting Rights Act. Challenging her is Roy Carter, a longtime high school teacher and football coach whose dedication to public service spans 40 years. This district, until recently a Republican stronghold, is energized for change. Foxx’s approval rating within the district has been dropping steadily for months, and currently is among the lowest of active representatives.

4000th Death as we Enter 6th Year of War.

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 12:49:47 PM PDT

November 14, 2007, 2nd Lieutenant Peter H. Burks, Specialist Derek R. Bunks and Sergeant Kenneth R. Booker were all killed in Iraq under hostile fire. August, September and October had seen 189 U.S. fatalities in Iraq and the U.S. Armed Services death toll had escalated to 3,830 by November 14th.

That same day House Resolution 4156 landed on the floor of the House of Representatives.

I'm Trying to Scare You to Death!

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 08:11:07 AM PDT

Not me, actually.  But Virginia Foxx, Republican Congresswoman from the 5th Congressional District of North Carolina, doesn't believe you're scared enough.

Rep. Virginia Foxx says she believes God will judge people for sins of omission as well as commission, so the Banner Elk Republican had a message she couldn't keep to herself.

"You should fear for your country," Foxx told a gathering of members of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.

The Democratic majority in Congress has become "bolder and bolder" with tax dollars and the rules of the House, she told the business leaders at their annual Washington meeting.

"I am trying to scare you to death," she said.

God will judge our country for its sins, and we should fear for our country?  Wait a second, the Congresswoman can't really think that God should damn America.  Otherwise, the story would be running 24/7 on her namesake network, right?

As for the two Democratic presidential candidates, Foxx pulled out her reserve can of fear.

"I believe they are socialists, and if you look at their platforms you will see their plan is to take money from part of the population and give it to other people in the population," she said later, referring to their universal health care plans.

"I don't know the dictionary definition of socialism, but most people would see that as socialism."

Actually, I believe what you've defined is called taxes.  Not to worry, Republicans have proved that they can run a massive military on only the money made from our conquests and that the economy perks aloing peachy keen on nothing but the good will and selflessness of the investment community.

The folks from the Charlotte Chamber of Congress, who had listened to Foxx's call to More Fear, had the appropriate response.

After she left the room, a member of the Chamber joked about leading the group out to jump off a balcony.

Foxx (NC-05) the new Bush

Mon Nov 19, 2007 at 09:16:26 PM PDT

Don't you wonder sometimes why Bush doesn't at least support things he knows the public supports and would help him politically? Does he do it because he feels that he is infallible, or because he just doesn't give a shit.

Here in NC-05, Virginia Foxx seems to be following the same path. Out of her last six nay votes, five of the bills have passed, most by large margins.

Cocktails For Carter NC-05

Tue Nov 13, 2007 at 07:40:55 PM PDT

I just came from a very nice event introducing Roy Carter as our next great hope to dethrone Queen Foxx of the Fifth. It was held outdoors on a cool, rainy November night, yet that didn't slow things down a bit.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Roy Carter is the real deal.

Roy Carter for Congress

Our shining star this year is Roy Carter, a teacher and coach for the youth of North Carolina's 5th district.

Congress' Dedicated and Courageous Pro-Life Leaders

Thu Oct 25, 2007 at 06:16:20 AM PDT

From LifeNews.com, a little info on how some of our Republican Congresscritters spend their days when not toeing the Bush line on Iraq:

Last Thursday the Susan B. Anthony List joined with National Right to Life Committee and FRCAction to present Real Women's Voices, a training conference for pro-life women activists from across the country.  ...  The activists also witnessed inspirational words from Congress' dedicated and courageous Pro-Life leaders: Senator Sam Brownback (KS-Sen), Rep. Mike Ferguson (NJ-07), Rep. Virginia Foxx (NC-05), and Rep. Jean Schmidt (OH-02).

Ah, so what, you say.  So  Brownback, Ferguson, Foxx and Mean Jean wandered off to hang out with their own for a little while.  What's the difference?

Roy Carter (NC-5) - Fighting Fifth Fires Foxx

Wed Oct 03, 2007 at 10:59:09 AM PDT

Plain and simple, Virginia Foxx is a disaster for our district.  Her voting record is embarrassing, seen most recently in her vote against the child health insurance program.  Because, however, her work ethic and name recognition are formidable, especially in a gerrymandered Republican district, it will take a lot to unseat her.  Yet, a campaign gaining traction and momentum before the Democratic primary has a chance to capitalize on the widespread discontent within this district.  Currently, only one man has stepped up to the plate: Roy Carter.

NC-5th Blog Needs Funding

Mon Feb 26, 2007 at 09:52:38 PM PDT

Below you will see my friend Drew's funding request for a blog that represents the 5th district of NC.

Both Drew and I are veterans of the Roger Sharpe campaign and are looking to make the 5th a viable Democratic district in 2008 and beyond.

To summarize this diary, we are asking the netroots to help expand the netroots.
