White House denies using Patriot Act against journalists
Wed May 17, 2006 at 03:00:30 PM PDT
Today during the White House briefing I asked Tony Snow this question:
There have been news reports this week that the FBI is using the Patriot Act to obtain phone records of journalists without their knowledge and without judicial oversight. As a former journalist, are you at all concerned about this sort of intrusion on press freedom?
Tony denied the allegation, saying:
I would be concerned if there was grounding to it. There have been reports, but once again, what it has referred to, the NSF [sic] program, which is strictly concerned with foreign, international terrorism. I'm sorry, the pieces just don't add up.

?
If you've been listening to the WH briefings lately, you'll notice that there is a new right-wing shill (who goes by the name "Les") throwing soft-balls at Scotty. His bias is as clear as his loud penetrating voice.
Who is this new "Jeff Gannon"?

John Harris's Distortions of Fact
Wed Dec 14, 2005 at 10:54:50 AM PDT
John Harris may allege that the title of Dan Froomkin's washingtonpost.com column invites confusion, but when it comes to the Plame affair and the WMD scandal, it seems the Washington Post Political Editor either doesn't understand the basic issues or will not separate fact from spin.
Let's take first this shockingly casual shrug at the media's supine obsequiousness prior to the war. Embedded in this quote (from a Post online chat transcript on Oct. 20) is a misrepresentation of what journalism should be about.
