Wow
Thu May 15, 2008 at 06:17:13 PM PDT
Verdict with Dan Abrams just came on and he led with something from my wildest dreams. A BREAKING NEWS banner appeared and he said Conyers and Waxman are tossing around the possibility of ARRESTING Karl Rove if he doesn't obey a subpoena (which hasn't yet been issued). I was so dumbfounded by the news I couldn't follow what the subpoena will be for. Something about Rove helping to fall a Democratic politician somewhere. I wish I'd paid more attention, but really, the glory of the moment completely gobsmacked me. I looked about on the ol' nets, but I couldn't find anything on it.
A Mennonite Farmer is Hauled Away for Selling Raw Milk. No One Arrested for Cancer-Related Milk.
Sun Apr 27, 2008 at 03:45:25 PM PDT
On Friday - April 25, 2008, in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Mark Nolt, a Wenger Mennonite (Horse and Buggy Mennonite) dairyman, threatened for months with arrest for selling raw milk without a permit was removed from his property by state troopers.
Jonas Stoltzfus, a friend, fellow farmer, and Church of the Brethen, was asked by Mr. Nolt to speak for him, and said of the raid yesterday - "Six state troopers and Bill Chirdon of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture trespassed onto his property, and stole $20-25,000 of his product and equipment."
Mr. Stoltzfus explained that Mr. Nolt did not have a permit because "he chose to turn his permit back in because it did not cover all the products he was selling. He felt he was being dishonest selling stuff that was not covered by the permit. He is a man of great integrity."
GOP PA 05: Candidates In Trouble With The Law!
Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 11:23:37 AM PDT
What do Matt Shaner & Derek Walker have in common? They have both triggered the millionaire clause as they pursue the PA District 5 primary. They both have close family connections to energy companies in PA: Oil for Shaner and coal for Walker.
Now they also have trouble with the law in common!

Police Nab Terrorist in Long Island
Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 07:14:53 PM PDT
Police in Long Island arrested Don Zirkel, an 80-year old church deacon and Iraq War protester for wearing an "offensive" tee-shirt. The shirt offended shoppers with the numbers 4,000 and 1,000,000 and the words "Dead" and "Enough." It's such a relief to know mall security guards are out there protecting innocent shoppers from exposure to such horrible truths.
Pledged Obama Super-Delegate Charged With Federal Crimes
Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 02:43:37 PM PDT
This time, it's Puerto Rico Governor, Gov. Anibal Acevedo Vila, charged Thursday with 19 counts in a campaign finance probe, including conspiracy to violate U.S. federal campaign laws and giving false testimony to the FBI.
The indictment also charged 12 others associated with Acevedo's Popular Democratic Party as a result of a two-year grand jury investigation, acting U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez said.
Acevedo, a superdelegate for the Democratic Party who has pledged to support Sen. Barack Obama, served in Washington as the island's nonvoting delegate to Congress and was elected governor in 2004 after campaigning on an anti-corruption platform.

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 06:36:59 AM PDT
I posted a diaryyesterday about my (admittedly tiny) part in trying to end the war, and I'm wondering.......

Please take the poll, and tell us your story in the comments.
(Update: I changed the title to make it more "inclusive")

Impeachment being ignored.
Fri Feb 01, 2008 at 05:40:00 AM PDT
Former United States Representative Elizabeth Holtzman wrote on the need for impeachment, and why the excuses for not doing it hold no water whatsoever. Democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel (yes, he's still running, no matter how much some want to deny it) is calling for impeachment -- as is Cindy Sheehan, who is rightly trying to unseat Nancy Pelosi for her complicity in the crimes of the Bush-Cheney regime.

Group Nabbed in Italy Appears to Hark Back To Lethal Red Brigades
Last February, 40 police officers forcibly entered a house at night in a small town in the vicinity of Turin, Italy. The ski mask-wearing officers were there to arrest 54 year-old Vincenzo Sisi who was charged with "running an armed terrorist group."
Not much comment on this one, just found it interesting. Sparks up memories of the old "radical" days---long gone in my case.

Playing Ball with War Criminals
Tue Jul 24, 2007 at 04:53:39 PM PDT
Hey Congress, you're up to bat. Today, Alberto Gonzales proved to you what you've known all along: this administration only believes in "rights" when these "rights" benefit this administration. They don't mind steamrolling the Constitution in the name of executive privilege, clemency, and pardons. It's only a piece of filthy paper until they need to use it as a shield.
Ladies and gentlemen, the time for civility has long past; the gloves are off.
First and foremostly, Congress must begin by arresting White House officials at will. All Reid has to do is send in the Senate's Sergeant at Arms:
The Sergeant at Arms is authorized to arrest and detain any person violating Senate rules, including the President of the United States.
Arrested on sex charges: GOP politician is McCain campaign Florida co-chairman
Thu Jul 12, 2007 at 08:51:15 AM PDT
SHOCKER! A closeted gay GOP Florida House member was arrested for soliciting sex from a police officer. As if one has to ask, his voting record for the past 5 years has been 90%+ with the Christian Coalition. And, duh, he was endorsed by the state's Right to Life Committee. And, get this, he's McCain's co-chairman in Florida!
Closeted gay, anti-gay Republicans in politics: The gift that keeps on giving.

My Friend Tom Connolly, the Bin Laden Imposter
Sun Nov 19, 2006 at 05:23:52 PM PDT
Ahh, nothing like old friends. How fondly I remember Tom's rapier-like wit in his youth, giving way to his more seasoned but no less mordant, informed wit as he entered middle age. This good-hearted, dedicated person of course is the one who spilled the Bush OUI story way back when. Now he's in Dutch because of a Halloween First Amendment Trick or Treat...some of dozens of stories about his Bin Laden hijinx:

Mr. Cheney, your policies in Iraq are reprehensible
Tue Oct 03, 2006 at 03:30:22 PM PDT
All those who agree, please say "aye".
I do not mean to be so dramatic, but this is the United States. Bill Clinton...and every other previous presidential administration could not get away with this garbage.
Mr. Cheney, this is the United States and you work for us, not the other way around. We give you our consent to govern us.
