FORBES 17th FOUND GUILTY IN OHIO BWC SCANDAL
Fri Jul 06, 2007 at 08:35:29 AM PDT
COLUMBUS, OHIO: Like a political slot machine that keeps on spitting out rare coins each time the lever is pulled, The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation(BWC) scandal, which started in 2005 and paved the way for big Democratic election wins last year, claimed its 17th conviction Thursday, when Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Paul M. Herbert, a Republican, ordered George L. Forbes to pay the maximum penalty of $6,000 in fines, an identical amount in repayments to the BWC and perform 60 hours of community service.
The (Toledo) Blade, Ohio's most daring newspaper that broke the story and that has reported on it with meticulous, unerring accuracy ever since, outlined the contents of ethics violations submitted by Franklin County and City of Columbus prosecutors and yesterday’s convictions.
Latest GOP Smear: She worked with REPUBLICANS!!!
Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 08:07:26 AM PDT
This morning I woke up to my partner yelling,
"My God! Jennifer Brunner's a Republican?!!! Am I losing my mind?!!!" He's standing over my bed pointing to this picture in the Columbus Dispatch. It's a pix from a TV ad from Brunner's opponent,
Republican Greg Brunner.

"But didn't we meet her at the Stonewall DEMOCRATS candidates night?!!!"
Not only that, but she is running to replace notorious REPUBLICAN Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell. In the never-never land of "corruption central" (aka Ohio), where Blackwell is running for governor as a BLACK WHITE SURPREMICIST, everything is possible...but this is too much!
"Ohio a Mess," Says News Titan; Dems Sell Sensible Solutions
Wed Oct 25, 2006 at 08:43:38 PM PDT
Newspapers generally report on all manner of topics, from politics and sports to business and crime. So its news when newspapers become the focus of the news. This is exactly what is happening this year in Ohio.
As unique as a Blue Moon, a troika of otherwise competitive news groups -- The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, The Dayton Daily News and The Columbus Dispatch - believe matters in the Buckeye State have sunk to such dire depths that they feel compelled, through a series of Sunday editorials, to use their powers of persuasion to convince the next governor, Ted Strickland or Ken Blackwell, that several key issues must be addressed if Ohio is to pull itself out of the steep economic nose dive it has suffered from since 2000.
That year served as a mile marker between the Golden Age of the Clinton White House and the dark years unfolding under President Bush.
Ohio Election Commission Rules Against Republican Candidate Greg Hartmann over "Willie Horton" AD
Tue Oct 24, 2006 at 10:43:02 AM PDT
In breaking news, the Ohio Elections Commission (OEC) issued a finding October 24, 2006 that found there is probable cause that Mr. Hartmann has lied about how his Democratic opponent, Jennifer Brunner, a respected former common pleas court judge and election-law expert, handled the case used in Mr. Hartmann's ad that many election experts say is reminiscent of the "Willie Horton" TV spot used by Republicans in 1988 to race-bait voters into supporting their party's presidential candidate, George H. W. Bush, father of the current president.
The ad, in which Mr. Hartmann brags about the "hundreds of violent felonies" he handed as an assistant prosecutor, contains lies that any experienced prosecutor would know better to use. The OEC ruling constitutes the latest in a series of slap-downs of Hartmann's record and rhetoric. He is still reeling from newspaper articles showing he has allowed identify theft to take place on his watch as clerk of courts and that he has willfully refused to pay court-ordered debts dating back to his college days and early working career.
IN OHIO: GOP'S HARTMANN STIFFS PEPSI FOR $29,000
Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 10:23:12 PM PDT
SAGA OF THE DESPERATE DEADBEAT
Ohio Republican candidate for secretary of state Greg Hartmann, from Texas, has wagered his entire campaign on convincing voters he is honest, law abiding and should be trusted to run clean and impartial elections.
STRIKE ONE: HONESTY
The Dayton Daily News (DDN) broke the story Friday that Hartmann, a former assistant Hamilton County prosecutor who is now the county's clerk of courts, is little more than a deadbeat on the run for failing to pay Pepsi approximately $29,000 in accumulated outstanding fines resulting from a law suit he and his company were named in and lost.
A spokesman for Pepsi told the DDN that it still wants Hartmann to pay up and if he didn't would actively consider pursuing the debt.

Ohio SOS Race: Brunner "Truth" Ad Crushes Hartmann's "Willie Horton" Spot
Thu Oct 19, 2006 at 11:16:31 AM PDT
Responding quickly to the "Willie Horton" smear ad launched by Texan Greg Hartmann, the Ohio GOP's mediocre and unqualified candidate for secretary of state, Jennifer Brunner struck back with the truth in this ad:
JenniferBrunner.Com Media Room
Airing on the same day that saw two more major newspapers - The Cleveland Plain Dealer and The Morning Journal - endorse Brunner over her "Texas long-horn" Republican opponent, Brunner's hard-hitting, truthful ad crushed the sleazy accusations contained in Hartmann's attack ad, which mimicked the scurrilous, nasty race-baiting ad used by Lee Atwater in 1988 to characterize then-Massachusetts's governor Mike Dukakis as soft on crime, a fabrication that turned the tide and installed George H.W. Bush as president.
OHIO - Noe trial starts today
Tue Oct 10, 2006 at 06:25:17 AM PDT
One can only hope that this gets a lot of play over the next few weeks.... It is so typical of the Republican culture of corruption. Fortunately, the trial in Lucas County Ohio Common Pleas Court is expected to last through Election Day on Nov. 7. Jury selection is expected to last through the week, with testimony beginning next week.
Noe gets 27 months in jail because of Bush....
Wed Sep 13, 2006 at 04:27:21 PM PDT
After being found guilty of illegally funneling $45,400 to the Bush re-election fund for the 2004 Presidential race poor little Tommy Noe said the Bush campaign pressured him.

The Other conspiracy to steal the '04 election in Ohio
Sun Aug 13, 2006 at 01:45:33 PM PDT
For years, we've been aware of Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell's machinations in 2004 calculated at shoplifting as many Democratic votes as possible. But as Blackwell gamed the vote count, a handful of highly partisan state officials conspired to make sure Ohio voters would go to the polls on November 2nd blissfully unaware of Ohio's shaky financial condition attributable to the pocket- lining of a handful of Bush's closest cronies-- all of it done at taxpayer's expense.
OH-Gov: Make Blackwell Tell
Wed Jun 07, 2006 at 06:56:17 AM PDT
Yesterday, we launched
a petition on our site aimed at Ken Blackwell's release of millions of Social Security numbers distributed with Ohio's voter file.
It wasn't the first time that Ken Blackwell released Social Security numbers, but it was perhaps the most egregious. Those affected by this breach of security must be notified - what is standard practice in so many other fields, both public and private, apparently hasn't even been exercised as an option by Ken Blackwell's office.
Sign the petition and make your voice heard on this issue.

The Mother Of All Public Airings Of The Dirty Skivvies
Thu May 25, 2006 at 04:49:26 PM PDT

I read the news today Oh Boy, and then I noticed that a good cross section of the top tier of American society, the movers, the shakers, the big money makers in government, business, and the religion game, the very pillars of our community, were in prison, under investigation or actually indicted, awaiting trial or out on appeal, on the prison bus or trapped underneath two large convicts named Leroy and Bubba and I sat back for a moment and smiled somewhat wistfully.
The Real Fight Begins Today

With the continuing folly that is the national Republican Party, it's easy to forget about what's happening on a state level, even in a swing state like Ohio.
Today is the primary election for Ohio, and chief among those races is the partisan primary for Governor. On the Democratic side, Ted Strickland will likely be the nominee. You can learn more about him here, or from the previous posts I've done on Daily Kos.

Just Say Noe to Thugs
Mon Feb 13, 2006 at 05:45:40 PM PDT
For those who have been following the ethical trials and travails of the GOP, the Buckeye State brings us the latest chapter of the
Banana Republicans.
Ohio Republican fundraiser extraordinaire Tom Noe, a Bush pioneer and close supporter of Governor Robert Taft, has been indicted on 53 new counts of stealing over $1 million from a dubious state investment in rare coins. These counts come on top of earlier charges of illegally funneling over $45,000 to President Bush's 2004 reelection campaign. Noe's taint has reached the Governor's mansion, with four aides implicated and Taft himself pleading no contest to four misdemeanor ethic violations.
Hike with the least popular governor in history
Tue Jan 10, 2006 at 10:59:37 AM PDT
I received word today that--in carrying on a 41-year tradition in the state of Ohio--Governor Bob Taft (the first statewide public officeholder to be charged with a crime while in office) will be going on a hike in Hocking Hills with anyone who wants to come along.

Governor Taft is about to turn Ohio into the
"Show Me Your Papers" State:
The Ohio Patriot Act has made it to the Taft's desk, and with the stroke of a pen, it would most likely become the toughest terrorism bill in the country. The lengthy piece of legislation would let police arrest people in public places who will not give their names, address and birth dates, even if they are not doing anything wrong.
Today Ohio, Is for Whom The Bell Tolls
Mon Dec 26, 2005 at 06:59:26 AM PDT
As the year draws to an end, if we have learned nothing else, it is that the elected officials on both the state, and federal level don't do what is best for the nation, or the people. This arrogance is pushed at us everyday. It became apparent this past month , when before the Christmas break the Ohio legislator, oked Bill9. God help Ohioans!

Ohio Bill Would Allow Arrests For No Reason In Public Place

This country is starting to turn into a police state and I am worried deeply about it. I have just found this out from a friend who lives in Ohio.
