Arizona: The Black Student Association Disparages American Values And Western Civilization
Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 06:56:33 AM PDT
From The National Campaign to Restore Civil Rights, a non-partisan movement working to ensure that our courts protect and preserve equal justice, fairness, and opportunity.
Arizona's public schools would be banned from supporting groups like the Black Business Students Association and the Asian Student Association under an amendment approved last week by a legislative committee. The amendment was tacked onto a homeland security bill in order to ban publicly funded schools from supporting groups that "denigrate, disparage or overtly encourage dissent from the values of american democracy and western civilization." That's great and all, because we love western civilization and American values, but instead of telling us what exactly those values might be, the amendment imposes a blanket ban on supporting any group based on race.
Reduce your carbon footprint now: Checklist Toward Zero Carbon
Sat Mar 01, 2008 at 05:44:08 AM PDT
In 2005 the eminent climate scientist Dr. James Hansen said, "We are on the precipice of climate system tipping points beyond which there is no redemption." Just three years later, we are now crossing some of those tipping points. It's time to stop talking. We must reduce now. Read the checklist. Download it, edit it, make it your own and distribute it.
Senator Clinton - An Unprecedented Way To Honor Lincoln's Birthday
Tue Feb 12, 2008 at 08:06:22 PM PDT
Good evening Senator Clinton,
Perhaps it is time to consider your legacy.
Perhaps you can elevate your status from a person passionate about being President - only to fail and cause enormous damage in the process - to being truly Presidential without ever occupying the Office.
How might you do that?
Will we survive?

"Now that the war is over...." - Here's a memory refresher, a May, 2003 interview of Thomas Friedman by Charlie Rose. Here's a three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning political writer talking with an award-winning host, and they're both totally, completely, 100% wrong. And yet nearly everyone was buying into it.
Most Americans felt angry (about 9-11), excited (in the leadup to the Iraq invasion), patriotic and victorious (during the first few months afterwards), and confused and tired (of it all) since then.
I, and those other hippie liberal tree-hugging commies, have just been horrified since Summer, 2002. Horrified at how atrocious America has been, and horrified that no one else, those who also knew the truth and had the power and influence to change the discourse, did a damn thing.
New Years 2058: The End of the World as We Know It (Nanosolar update)
Tue Jan 01, 2008 at 07:23:17 PM PDT
A post in which I lay out my (not always rational) fears for the future and the end of civilization. (update: and one way out)
death by moderization
Tue Dec 18, 2007 at 08:37:58 PM PDT
According to National Geographic, "Every 14 days a language dies. By the year 2100, over half of the more than 7,000 languages spoken on Earth — many of them never yet recorded — will likely disappear, taking with them a wealth of knowledge about history, culture, the natural environment, and how the human brain works."
It has always been my opinion that language is free and language is fluid, but those two conditions cannot be met if a language dies. But why are languages dying? Both a difficult and nearly obvious answer exists. Earth is slowly developing into a single civilization. Traditional societies and languages are dying; disappearing and waves of rapid modernization aid in the erosion of tradition. The answer cannot be left at just that however, because there are many reasons, effects, and causes intertwined in the death of a language.
Nature Abhors a Vacuum
Sat Dec 15, 2007 at 11:10:02 PM PDT
Consider that something close to 80% of the population thinks Congress sucks, Dick Cheney sucks, President Bush sucks, and the country is on the wrong track
Consider the fact that even here, on an extremely popular site which was started with the express goal of electing Democrats to office, a huge percentage of the people are completely disillusioned and dissatisfied with that very party. (And for damn good reason.)
What we are presented with is a vacuum. A vacuum of leadership and representation.
In business terms, there is a strong demand, but no supply.
In business terms, this is a gold mine of an opportunity. The chance of a lifetime.
Dems help create Tyranny, but why?
Thu Dec 06, 2007 at 01:58:51 AM PDT
It's been a year since the people gave the Dems enough power to start reversing the hellish direction the law-twisting, law-breaking behavior of the Bush Junta has taken us. But the Dems aren't getting this nation back on the road of Civilization yet. Quite the contrary, Senate Bill 1959 and House Bill 1955 function to create a McCarthyism-to-the-tenth-power and conduct THOUGHT CRIME witch hunts, plunging us down the road of uncivilized behavior!
Why are so many Dems going along with this madness?! And WHAT can we possibly SAY to the Democratic leadership to make them change course and reinstitute civilized behavior in the United States???
What arguments/points can we use in our appeals to the Dems to rollback the Bush Junta's destruction of American Civilization? What can we possibly say to them to make them stop assisting King Bush and his court in the creation of this evergrowing tyranny???
Advancing the Cause of Civilization
Wed Nov 14, 2007 at 04:31:43 PM PDT
Crossposted from the frontpage of Docudharma.
Most thoughtful people would agree that we have an obligation to advance the cause of civilization. We owe it to our children, our grandchildren, and to posterity. We are not only stewards of the earth, as are all human beings, but we Americans are also stewards of the original American vision as established in 1776. Remember the cause of liberty?

Diplomacy -- the civilized alternative to the Dogs of War.
Thu Oct 25, 2007 at 08:50:42 PM PDT
Diplomacy is the life blood of civilization, not lose/lose wars which destroy geography, economy, and human lives. Vampire elites are ALWAYS at the bottom of war as this is their modus operandi of how they become and stay vampire elites. They concoct and maintain wars until they cease to the money cows. Iraq is a textbook example of a money cow war for the "Haves" of America.
Will species extinction be the scientific effect of elitist greed?
Sun Oct 07, 2007 at 02:56:43 PM PDT
Elitist greed is killing the planet and murdering human civilization. These vampires are bleeding Mother Nature (and our wallets) dry. They are literally pushing the human species toward extinction, and yet our collective human sloth looks on with passivity and stupor. It's now or never, my friends. The fascists are the fatal symptoms, but the disease is limitless elitist greed. It's time to step on these cockroaches.
A Government By the People...
Wed Sep 05, 2007 at 01:46:33 PM PDT
With the political landscape strewn with the corpses of scandals, hypocrites, failed legislation, and Constitutional and rational crises, what rooom do any of us have for optimism? What makes us think that we are able to competently govern ourselves? Since history has been recorded, government has been a disaster; perhaps the second most destructive and devisive force right behind religion. We preach democracy, freedom of speech, civil liberties, peace, but is the world a fundamentally better place than it was 50 years ago? 150? 1500? Are our leaders better today? Are the world's economic conditions better? Is their peace? Humankind has failed in every aspect of life, and it's time that we all take a look at ourselves and our beliefs and evaluate them based on results.
Daily Examples by the Vicks and Craig's of America show a Nation in Decline, societies saviors...

Daily Examples by the Vicks and Craig's of America show a Nation in Decline, Our well taught children may be Societies Saviors!
The Rise and Fall of the American Empire? It's up to all of us!
Knowing that in the past I have written numerous times on the increasing decadence of our society and that we were heading the way of the Roman Empire and every society as a normal point in a societies cycle of life. Bush has merely sped up our demise in hi efforts for new societal and world order. We receive daily reminders from all levels of our society. The growing daily ration of rapes and murders but supposedly "normal" good citizens is highlighted by the sorry examples we have to follow in our Government and those many in this society revere and hold special as our sports figures.
I was thinking this morning of the special people I have met of late on
I'm Getting A Little Sick Of "Muslim Outrage"
Sat Aug 25, 2007 at 09:10:46 PM PDT
Muslim outrage. How many times have we heard that phrase? "Muslim leaders are outraged at..." It seems to be a common refrain. And each time it is repeated, I find it a little more difficult to be sympathetic.
Al Jazeera TV: 'A Clash betw Middle Ages and 21st Science'
Wed Aug 22, 2007 at 05:15:01 PM PDT
The battle against science, revamped and reheated with the advent of the Bush W presidency, has left more than a few of us scrambling to support fact-based work and ideas.
And not only nerds have been doing this, but artist types like me too. The dismantling of what we all know to be true, some may call it a distortion of postmodernism, by the current administration and followers has taken the oxygen out of the discursive air. What? Up is down and down is Left? Meanwhile while you're trying to put back that logic in its rightful place, we're going to sneak in some provisions that make every other mad, mad civilization before us start to look downright proper.
We may know a bit of what Europeans think, thanks to Jerome a Paris's diaries here, but what do Arabs think?
And where are the ones who aren't the ones portrayed on tv as living in mud huts, carrying AK-47s?
I guess you have to look to Los Angeles.
Is civilization dying from terminal stupidity?
Sat Aug 18, 2007 at 05:43:11 PM PDT
Human stupidity is the critical variable in human history and now, as always, it is dragging us to hell. It can be transcended, but the odds are against a revolution of intelligence. And yet, the internet may be doing exactly that
We Need Another Black Death
Wed Aug 15, 2007 at 08:41:56 AM PDT
The world is going to hell in a handbasket, as everyone knows. Global warming, crushing debt, wars, occupations, terrorism, and moral decay assault us on every hand. Such things make me weep for our Western Civilization. But what can be done? Nothing, friends, absolutely nothing.
It is not possible to solve our problems merely by attacking them one at a time with common sense, logic, and hard work.
No, that approach has been tried before, and failed miserably. And here is the proof: problems still exist.
In fact new problems arise on practically a daily basis!
There are no easy answers, is the sad truth. And if there are no easy answers, then obviously, there are no answers at all. Even worse, to even start working on these problems would necessitate admitting they exist, and that we have been wrong about certain things in the past. These preconditions are impossible to meet.
The truth is no one can fix anything, and we have no control over the difficulties we find ourselves in.
And yet, just possibly, there is a way to fix all of these disasters without anyone having to admit they were wrong and without anyone having to work together.....
Civilization's Toll: "Please just tell the world that we are dying."
Fri Jul 27, 2007 at 01:23:10 PM PDT
Folks, I just wrote an editorial piece that was published today on the ePluribus Media Journal called Civilization's African Toll: From The Cradle of Civilization to a Grave of Indifference. It centers on the plight of the Hadzabe tribe of Tanzania, who have ...
...a simple request. "Please just tell the world that we are dying." No accusations, no calls for warfare. Just a simple request -- more of a reminder, really -- that we should be aware of the passing of an indigenous people from the face of the earth.
The Hadzabe resurrect an age old issue ... the sacrifice "man" has to make for "man" in the name of civilization.
