The "elitism" of negativity
Mon Apr 14, 2008 at 04:32:00 PM PDT
The most common insult tossed at Obama Supporters is that we are somehow all part of a "cult of personality," and therefore by implication - weak-willed and looking for a "saviour." Now the Democratic party is using it on itself.....Thanks a lot Evan Byah and Hillary Clinton.....
Let's dissect this for a second:
The Media Is On To You Guys

I've been given crap recently about using the term Obamaniacs to describe the typical Daily Kos user latey, and even had comments hidden on the sole grounds that the term "Obamania" is somehow insulting.
Well, follow me over the fold to see what the mainstream media thinks about the typical Daily Kos member these days.
... in which I call your butt out

Let me tell you a story about a candidate.
He had a certain resonance with the blogsphere, not to mention a large grass-roots organization. KOS gave some advice to his campaign early on, but didn't necessarily endorse him. KOS also didn't censor any of the negative commentary about the candidate on Daily KOS, no matter how bad it got. People got together in real life, met each other, and realized that not only were they not alone, they were legion. And they were excited. In the end, the corporate media simply crushed the campaign by smearing it for its own enthusiasm.
That was the Dean Scream.
I will not be ignored. I will not be marginalized.

Some say that supporters of Barack Obama are simply devotees to a cult of personality. Young people too ignorant to remember the fights of years gone by embracing empty post-partisan rhetoric. They don't know what it really takes.
Some say I don't care. Some say that millions don't care, that they are projecting their hopes and dreams onto a candidate. Obama is full of nothing but hot air - he stands for nothing, and so everyone stands with him.
I'll tell you what:
They've got it wrong.
Why I will not vote for Obama
Tue Feb 12, 2008 at 02:31:40 AM PDT
1st Main reason to NOT vote for Obama is Cult of personality.
Any Cult like that end up with Disaster - Germany & USSR are best
examples. Misbehavior of his supporters absolutely unacceptable as well.
2nd reason is Obama's refusal to acknowledge the idiocy and
mistakes in his "medical plan" and lack of mandatory requirements.
Instead of me arguing about that just read Paul Krugman.
3rd reason is his wrong talk about Reagan and his "ideas". Reagan
is as failure almost as much as Bush and Reagan is literally the public enemy.

Who's Tricky Now? Paul Krugman Says Obama Supporters Are Almost a "Cult of Personality"
Cross-posted at The Daily Demonizer
In his column today in the New York Times the usually prescient economist Paul Krugman stands on the border of the "Nixonland" he so despises: "a land of slander and scare; the land of sly innuendo. . . the land of smash and grab and anything to win."

My father once ran for state office, and that was my first experience in perceiving politics as something with personal influence as well as something influenced by personality. You see- one can't help but be influenced as a young teen when a mob of well-meaning donors descends upon your home and sanctuary for a fundraiser, or when a pile of letters lies strewn underfoot across the living room waiting to be licked and stamped. Moreover, I was the most competent computer operator in the house.
...I was also the most politically disaffected in the house, having little reason to be that way, given that I couldn't even vote for a lost cause yet. I asked my father, once, whether he couldn't have greater influence as a teacher than as a solitary member of the state legislature. Over time, I've become somewhat more inclined to believe his answer...
Do You Believe In Your Candidate?

There are two kinds of people in this world - those who believe in people, and those who believe in ideas.
Those who believe in ideas understand that people are imperfect, sometimes betray, often disappoint. They understand that people come and go, while ideas live forever. Here's an example of some people who believed in ideas.

Che's Haircut Costs More Than Edwards'

A lock of Che Guevara's hair was recently sold for $100,000. If Che were still alive, he'd probably start another guerilla warfare campaign over this.
Che would probably have cursed his own good looks for being a catalyst for capitalism. Honestly, why else would that picture of him (you know the one I'm talking about) be so famous if not for the fact that Che looks so dashing and rebellious in it?
People will pay good money (their own private money) to gaze upon beautiful people. That itself is capitalism. From the t-shirts, to the coffee mugs, to the locks of hair, the consequences of Che's cult of personality are clear. He has been whored out, in absentia, to the highest bidder.
