Fox News Candidate Forum maybe not authentic? *pause for gasps* (updated w/ Youtube)
Mon Jan 07, 2008 at 09:39:28 AM PDT
I'm not talking about Fox's actual 'debate', that portion needs little explanation. Heck, the state's own party pulled out of the forum. As other bloggers have already noted, it was the usual Fox lovefest where the candidates pretty much got to give their stump speech with little challenge from the 'moderator' Wallace. I'm talking about the panel of 30 'undecided' New Hampshire voters they went to after the 'debate' for some 'real peoples'' opinions.
Hillary: A Touch of Evil?
Mon Nov 12, 2007 at 01:08:06 PM PDT
Hillary Clinton is not George W. Bush. So for the record I don't want to seem overly dramatic about this. I don't want to be one of those people who screams outrage at every little thing that happens. So what I am really talking about here just a little scrap that is added to my case against Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee.
Today I* learned that Hillary's campaign has been planting questions into crowds in Iowa. Now Hillary is claiming that she had nothing to do with it and it won't happen again, and that actually may be true or it may not. The problem is that with Hillary we never know. Let's for the sake of argument assume the best, what does it say about her campaign staff, the people she chooses to surround herself with. Surely Hillary is to some degree responsible for the tactics used by those under her employ. I'll tell you what part of the story I did not see, and that is the part where the aides who planted the questions got fired.
Clinton busted for MORE!!! planting ala bushco (new allegations)

Well, if the news of planted questions at a Hillary event in Iowa that came out last night wasn't enough
More are coming to light on a constant roll now.

Deadbeat Debat - ABC Fake
Wed Sep 19, 2007 at 07:06:36 AM PDT
I hope by now that everyone here at Dailykos knows about ABC's fake terrorism expert Alexis Debat. He was caught only after a story in a French publication with Debat's byline was based on a fabricated interview with Barack Obama. It snowballed from there. Many articles pushing war on Iran have been sourced by Debat including the chilling "three day blitz" on Iran story written by Sarah Baxter for the Times Online. That particular story was picked up and quoted everywhere including many alarmist diaries here on Dailykos. Everyone from the AP to the BBC seems to have been taken in by this guy. Is that why the traditional media wants this story buried? There is more...
Alexis Debat Saga - followup
Sun Sep 16, 2007 at 12:51:18 PM PDT
I have been following the developments in the case of Alexis Debat, an ABC terrorism consultant who has been outed as a fake. This story was originally broken at Rue89 and has since been investigated by foreign affairs expert Laura Rozen. I have lamanted the lack of traditional media attention, although the NY Times has reported on it in the business section. For those who are following the story I thought I would add a few more links that you may be interested in.
Update on ABC's Fake Expert
Sat Sep 15, 2007 at 06:12:25 AM PDT
I am a little puzzled why this story has not gotten more play but I would like to again bring it up for discussion. I wrote about the outing of fake terrorism expert Alexis Debat here. I hope everyone will take a look and check out the links. Howard Kurtz at the Washington Post wrote:
Alexis Debat, a former French defense official who now works at the Nixon Center, published the interview in the French magazine Politique Internationale. He said he had hired a freelance journalist to conduct the interview, in which the Democratic presidential candidate supposedly said that Iraq was "already a defeat for America" that has "wasted thousands of lives." Debat said he had been unable to locate the intermediary, and the Obama campaign says no such interview took place.
Fake Terrorism Expert Exposed
Thu Sep 13, 2007 at 11:51:54 AM PDT
I am not a great diarist so I hope I can do this subject justice. I first read about it from a link on Buzzflash.
Alexis Debat, ABC Terrorism expert and Nixon Center Fellow has been exposed as a fake. His downfall seems to have been precipitated by Debat writing an article on Obama based on an interview that never took place. The facts are slowly trickling in but a number of blogs are digging and Howard Kurtz at the Washington Post wrote about it today.

Four stem cell champions-- and one fake. (support for Craig Johnson, NY-SD7

MICHAEL J. FOX, WESLEY CLARK, GERALD FORD—AND CRAIG JOHNSON
What do an influential movie star, a retired General, and a Republican icon have in common with Craig Johnson, a candidate for New York State Senate?
All four are strong—and genuine—supporters of stem cell research.
But Craig Johnson's rival in the New York State Senate race to be decided Tuesday is something else altogether...
Stolen Valor and the people it harms
Wed Jan 17, 2007 at 04:39:03 AM PDT
Most people will tell you that impersonating a war hero is not a big deal. They are lying it is a big deal, in a world where the words "Duty, Honor and Country" are a way of life and not a motto. The medals and awards are earned not bought, and they are usually paid for in blood, sacrifice, or extreme heroism.
Most people that have lived to be awarded the Medal of Honor will tell you they weren't really thinking about what they were doing at the time, just that it looked like the right thing to do, or if they had of given it thought before acting, they probably wouldn't have done it. Most Medals of Honor are awarded posthumously, you really have to put your own life at risk and lay it all out there for the award to be made. Like SFC Paul Smith, the first Medal of Honor recipient of the Iraq War, for manning the 50 caliber on his vehicle and stopping the attack of approximately 100 Iraqi soldiers during the initial invasion at the Iraqi Airport in Baghdad, he's a hero.
North Korea Nukabuki
Fri Oct 13, 2006 at 01:45:45 PM PDT
Doubts are growing that North Korea actually detonated a
nucular device.
Of course, predictably, the money quote from Bush is that the "claim" from North Korea is enough of a threat to take action.
Haven't we heard that one before?

Party Over Here
Mon Aug 14, 2006 at 09:31:40 PM PDT
"If you want a progressive [member of Parliament], a New Democrat, one who will fight for change, then you have to vote New Democrat. It's that simple. In order to have the Canada you want, you have to vote for the Canada you want."
-Jack Layton, leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) of Canada
Ken Lay escapes life conviction by faking his death!
Fri Jul 07, 2006 at 11:06:23 AM PDT
I had heard Jeanne Garafalo talk about this possibility briefly on a call-in to Sam Seder while he was hosting "The Al Frankin show".
Ken Lay has faked his own death in order to escape conviction (he would have been put away for life) and is not really dead (but roaming free with his stash of money in another Country somewhere).
How is this possible? Well, first of all we have yet to see any photographic evidence or true medical evidence that Ken Lay's body itself, in fact, ever surfaced as truely "dead". Some "statements" have been made -- but no hard proof of his death has ever been furnished.
Now here's what we do know:

CNN is presenting this audio tape as if it's authenticity were not in any doubt at all. [Update: CNN's Authenticity disclaimer is obviously included.]
What corporate media says about terrorism is what the people believe.
The major bloggers are afraid to tackle this elephant in the room. Everyone fears being branded as a tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist.
The big bloggers have forced corporate media to cover many different issues. We all love to celebrate these victories. Big bloggers must face the fact that they have become media gate-keepers with responsibilities. They're bringing attention to very important things and that is much appreciated, but other topics are not getting the attention they urgently require.
If our most prominent bloggers continue to give the corporate media a free pass on terrorist-related propaganda, we've conceded defeat before the next manufactured crisis is even upon us.
Man with fake ID enters DHS HQ - I couldn't make this shit up!

It's one thing to use a fake ID to sneak into a bar. OK well how about the Department of Homeland Security headquarters?
VA-Sen: George Allen, Gone Country
Fri Apr 28, 2006 at 08:07:33 AM PDT

I gave my wife the
TNR article on George Allen. You know, the one that outs Allen as a sadistic, fake, cowboy, always looking for a better job. The one about how George Allen has made a career out of wrapping his sickness and hate in the confederate flag and southern culture to score political points and maybe become president. Yeah that one.
Well, she read it, and she looked at me stunned and horrified for a few minutes. I was about to start a diatribe on how scary the whole thing is, but she stopped me. Before I could get going, she laughed and sang "look at them boots!". Then she smiled at me and said "He's gone country!".
Not First Time Tapes Questioned
Mon Jan 23, 2006 at 10:02:17 AM PDT
Before I start I want to say that this diary will contain speculation and opinion, some of the comments may as well. If you want to point it out, fine. But it would be appreciated if you wouldn't flame the whole thread.
I know this is controversial and some think it isn't important whether the tapes are real or not anymore. I respectfully disagree.
