Please God Save US: MYSPACE deletes book's page

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 07:07:18 PM PDT

I'm breaking my 4 year rule on writing a diary. I know I'm ashamed, but Newscorp pissed me off....Can't take the fire, I guess....They and my friend Tom really hates us for our freedom.

I did a diary last week on Kent Smith and Derek Hess's newly written and illustrated book 'Please God Save Us'.

MySpace.com (owned by NewsCorp) deleted the page.

I wonder why?/snicker

"Character and Conduct." Barack Obama-In A Nutshell

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 06:54:04 PM PDT

Very intersting vid ironically exposing Fox news for its own "character and conduct." Found it on the social networking site liveleak. Expect the second half to be even better.

-As described by talking monkey"
"Fox News Channel aired the first of two presidential candidate documentaries called "Character and Conduct." First up: Barack Obama, whose documentary pretends really hard that it's not full of stereotypes and insinuations."

A newcomer's guide to the Denver Convention

In preparation for the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver, it's best to map out a small, but effective little guide to first timers and those watching from home.

Pew Survey: Fans of Colbert and Stewart know 'real' news, too

Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 09:16:56 AM PDT

The results of the new Pew Survey on News Consumption (taken every two years and released this afternoon) suggest that viewers of the "fake news" programs The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are more knowledgeable about current events (as judged by three test questions) than watchers of  "real" cable news shows hosted by  Lou Dobbs, Bill O'Reilly and Larry King, among others -- as well as average consumers of NBC, ABC,  Fox News, CNN, C-SPAN and daily newspapers.

The national average for answering the three questions was only 18%.  But 34% of The Colbert Report fans got them right, with 30% of The Daily Show viewers doing so -- even though the two Comedy Central shows draw younger audiences which generally scored less well on the "test" than older viewers/readers.

What a desperate Republican incumbent acts like (Musgrave CO-4)

Sun Aug 17, 2008 at 07:14:09 PM PDT

This week I had CO-4 Candidate Betsy Markey back on my radio show to talk about her vision for the district and for Colorado. The interview is great on its own, because, well, Betsy Markey is hands down a better candidate Marilyn Musgrave. The interesting part of the story is that Marilyn Musgrave went on the local Fox affiliate KCOL of Ft.Collins earlier in the day with their show's host, John Clarke, where they went on to smear Betsy Markey for 'making up a scheduling conflict' to 'avoid a debate on KCOL' and accusing her of being 'afraid to debate' (just like Mark Udall and Barack Obama are 'afraid to debate')
making up a scheduling conflict

But Marter told PolitickerCO.com Friday afternoon that Markey can't debate Musgrave on KCOL-AM Saturday morning, as she'll be on a different radio show - "Ultimate Politics" on KCKK-AM 1510 and KSXT-AM 1570.

Musgrave manager Jason Thielman responded

"That (other radio show booking) is conveniently appeared, I believe," Thielman said.

We Were On Fox News Yesterday--How It Went Down

Sun Aug 17, 2008 at 03:00:02 PM PDT

This is our experience, that others might learn.

I know, and I agree...politicians should stay away from Fox News.  They're a vile, hateful, propaganda machine.

We're not politicians, we're actors and comics who perform satire.  When asked by an employer to do an appearance on Faux Noise to promote an event?  What do you do?  Well, this is what we did...

Wesley Clark on Fox News

Sun Aug 17, 2008 at 10:59:50 AM PDT

I just caught the end of an interview that Wes Clark did on Fox News. While I was only able to see him answer three or four questions, it solidified my position that Wes Clark would make the best VP pick.

Fox gets punk'd by 12 year old Ossetian girl

Sat Aug 16, 2008 at 12:20:14 AM PDT

Wow, Faux really blew it here, bringing in a 12 year old Ossetian girl "hero" to talk about how bad the Russian aggression was, first-hand, only to have the girl stop the flow of the interview and point out that her ordeal was caused by Georgian troops, and she thanks the Russians who helped her escape.

"Better for one man to die"

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 10:00:46 PM PDT

Death threats and the like coming from GOP wingnuts are, sadly, not much of a surprise any longer, and neither is hypocrisy by Bill O'Reilly and the people at Fox "News".

But here's a particularly egregious example of the convergence of these forces.

Death threats do appear to be all right with O'Reilly and Fox, as long as a right-winger makes them.

Jerome Corsi Works for Crash McCain

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 07:18:55 PM PDT

Jerome Corsi worked for George W. Bush during the 2004 election. Until Bush and McCain deny it under oath, I submit that Corsi is a McCain/Rove/Bush operative.

Corsi claims that he is not supporting John McCain. I say he is and I can simply use this diary as my proof of that. I'll just use this diary as proof of my claim. That's one of Corsi's favorite methods to prove his claims. He just cites himself.

And, I admit that this is an ad hominem attack. So what? Corsi’s books were ad hominem attacks. Corsi's main response to Media Matters spokesman Paul Waldman was that Media Matters was making ad hominem attacks on him. That's true; Waldman was personally attacking Corsi's history of publishing hateful lies.

UPDATED w/video: Fox News Wins in Court

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 06:59:43 PM PDT

This diary was originally posted and Front Paged July 31, 2007

In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.

Lawyers argued in court that Fox can lie with impunity. The reporters refused and threatened to report Fox's actions to the FCC, they were both fired.

Fox News has the right to lie under the 1st Amendment.
The Right to Lie!
These videos are each approximately 10 minutes long, please watch.

Part 2 with clips from the fired reporters is below the fold.

Fox Lies About Kos

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 04:33:39 PM PDT

I don't watch Fox, I just don't have the stomach for it but Rawstory has this piece up, they watch so you don’t have too:

http://rawstory.com/...

The piece is funny in a number of ways, firstly that Corsi is now crying about being attacked and how unfair it is that people call him names like Liar.  It may be factually correct to call him a Liar but apparently it hurt his feelings, so sorry, you big fat Liar.

Brave New Films RIPS McCain and FAUX News in new videos

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 11:52:20 AM PDT

The only format I can find right now is the Quicktime format, I'll keep looking for another version. If you don't have Quicktime, you can download it here.

Watch the McCain video here
Digg "McCain's Mansions: The Real Elitist Here

The video has a woman talking about her home getting foreclosed, along with McCain's insensitive comments about home foreclosure, while showing McCain's multiple multi-million homes, and they mention the shoes and Cindy's comment about the small private jet being the only way to get around Arizona and she just up and bought the plane because she loved it so much.

Faux News try to censor the real world (South Ossetia)

Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 07:32:08 AM PDT

Faux News thought they had a coup when they brought in a 12 year old girl who fled the South Ossetia war zone.  They believed the neocon BS that whoever was fleeing was running away from those eeeeeevvvvviiiiiiiillllll Russians.

Closed captioning on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC: what it tells us

Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 07:19:28 PM PDT

To help keep pace with all of the election coverage on the 24/7 news channels, Jed has been archiving closed captioning data. However, the sheer volume of text makes it hard to analyze.

In this diary, I'll show several automatically generated images (word clouds) that I created that highlight the prevalence of certain words in election coverage on these three channels; the analysis is over the last week's worth of closed captioning feeds. Let's look at the top 20 words on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News (from left to right):

Art and Politics: A few of my favorite things

Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 06:34:08 PM PDT

Don't mind my diary errors, I only write one here every 4 years, I swear.

So far.... ;0)

The subject of politics is one that you can never grasp at one glance, it's something you have to live through daily to even understand how it works, and one of my subjects I tend to read about most often. The first favorite topic for me though is art. I wanted to be an artist when I was in the 8th grade at St Agnes, but I had this teacher who told me I had no talent. (BTW I'm now 45yoa) My parents told me I had to study something that had a safe salary behind it, and art was not it. In my junior year in college, my parents came to visit me on campus and was looking at some graphite sketched images taped to the walls, and pronounced that my roommate was very talented. I then quietly informed them that I had done them in between elementary education classes. And they, after closing their mouths, asked "Why didn't you tell us you could do this?" And I, being the long time obedient Catholic schooled oldest and only daughter before 5 brothers, replied "Because you told me I had to do something in which I would have a steady salary."

Kristol: Powell to endorse Obama, speak at DNCC

Wed Aug 13, 2008 at 02:27:38 PM PDT

Bill Kristol either has the scoop of the season, or is fated to have some serious egg on his face:

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention, Weekly Standard Publisher Bill Kristol told FOX News exclusively on Thursday.

“He may well give a speech at the Democratic convention explaining his endorsement of Obama,” Kristol said, citing inside sources. “For whatever reason I think he has decided he’s going to endorse Obama. I think [Powell] has a high respect for Senator McCain, they go back a long way.”

Kristol continued, “This is not an absolute done deal, but these people are very confident that Powell will endorse Obama.”

Kristol said sources told him Powell will “quite possibly” speak at the Democratic convention on the same night as Obama’s vice-presidential selection and former President Bill Clinton.

Fox News' own reporter dug up Powell's spokeswoman to pour cold water on Kristol's claims:

“There’s absolutely no truth to it whatsoever,” Cifrino told FOXNews.com. “Colin Powell will not be at either convention. There’s absolutely no truth to this.”

Let's mess with Bill-O

Wed Aug 13, 2008 at 10:42:10 AM PDT

Every once in a while, I turn the TV to Fox News and Bill O'Reilly, not for information, obviously, but to see how long I can stand it before I am

a) yelling at the TV

b) cursing

c) changing the station

I surfed by his website for similar reasons, and noticed there is a poll "measuring", and no doubt in a fair and balanced manner, what grade people would give to Barack Obama's campaign.  The results are to be used in a later broadcast.

I gave Barack an A.  Perhaps many more Kossacks should drop by, and do the same thing.  Let's see if Bill-O will report a poll that leans heavily in favor of Senator Obama.
