New Race-Baiting Ad For Real this time: "Call me, Barack"

Mon Aug 11, 2008 at 05:31:30 PM PDT

This is...truly, a new low. They knew the discussion in the media about the Paris Britney ad was to recall the Harold Ford ad so people could cry racism and make blue collars resist Obama even more. It wasnt a racist ad (though the most demeaning one against any presidential candidate in history), but they knew there would be a discussion asking if it was racist.  But now, we truly see where they were going with the Paris/Britney ad.

I'm not alone in this, Josh Marshall of TPM opines: "Having found most pundits to be incorrigible morons on racial/sexual messaging, McCain decides to push a bit further ..."

PROOF: John McCain's way behind the times

Mon Aug 04, 2008 at 01:58:28 PM PDT

I just saw this "gotcha" type story on Drudge, which claims that Obama compared himself to Paris Hilton:

A February 24, 2005, Washington Post article begins:

"Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame," says Barack Obama. "I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

Attack of McCain: AD WARS 08

Sun Aug 03, 2008 at 06:14:03 PM PDT

This year’s biggest summer blockbuster may never be seen in the theatre.   This year the prize for most hyped movie of the summer goes to campaign attack ads or....ATTACK OF MCCAIN: AD WARS 08!  Featuring an all-star cast that includes Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Charlton Heston and of course this summer’s biggest celeb...THE CHOSEN ONE!   OBAMA!!!!!

McCain gets called out...by Paris Hilton's MOM!

Sun Aug 03, 2008 at 11:46:25 AM PDT

This is funny.

When asked what she thought about McCain's sad excuse for political discourse, this is what Paris Hilton's mother had to say:

It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign.

It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs.

And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States.

[As an aside, isn't getting called "frivolous" by Paris' mom a bit like being called "trashy" by Britney Spears?]

The Mystic Marriage of Celebrity and the Martydom of Two Saints

I fell over laughing when I found out the full title of the painting I had just photo-shopped. You have no idea how long I had to look for a Paris photo without her eye on the camera. Lets just say that the first couple of such pics I found, she had her eyes set on more heady matters.

Obama's Old and Failing Strategy, From an Obama Supporter

Sun Aug 03, 2008 at 02:30:02 AM PDT

I have been an ardent supporter of Barack Obama's campaign, however, his strategy for winning is strangely and unfortunately similar to John Kerry's ‘04 campaign, and it's pissing me off. The way to beat back this type of politics is simple and it has nothing to do with the sad tactic of defensive complaining Obama and Kerry have fallen trapped into using...

The carnival of the absurd, or the dangers of McCain’s laughable ads

Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 07:14:48 AM PDT

I’ve been following with some interest the discussions over McCain’s ads this week, especially the great entries here and here on ‘The One’ that draw out the Dominionist codes that paint Obama as the anti-christ.  Personally, I couldn’t believe the ad the first time I saw it – it’s so patently ridiculous that you can't help but ask, ‘what were they thinking!’  And judging by the discussions, I certainly wasn’t the only one who had this response.  But the great analyses of this ad that drew out the coding got me thinking a bit about the McCain team’s advertising strategies:  If they’re capable enough to load up all sorts of codes in this ad, why not do it in a way that isn’t so, well… laughable?

Boy did the McCain camp pick the wrong ad!

Thu Jul 31, 2008 at 08:34:19 AM PDT

Okay, so John McCain's Swift Boating Rovians unleashed their full fury yesterday by comparing Presidential Candidate Barack Obama with bad parenting teen megastar Brittany Spears and Socialite Heiress Airhead Paris Hilton.  Well as laughable as this may be, this could really bite him in the ass on two fronts.  First, people will begin to think about who they would compare to Barack Obama.  Second, the McCAIN campaign has injected Paris Hilton into the mix.  I think you know where I am going.

Tue Jul 15, 2008 at 12:40:44 PM PDT

By KikiBird from EyesOnObama:

Yesterday was Bastille Day, the French equivalent of Independence Day. Having just gotten back from Paris, I can say that Parisians would storm the Bastille all over again if it would get Obama elected.

Updated 2x: Paris-Live Blogging - Obama’s Victory: Race Conference in Paris.

Sat Jun 07, 2008 at 05:56:54 AM PDT

"Ideas and ideologies matter to me more than race" "All whites are not my brothers, as all of my brothers are not white."  "All blacks are not my brothers, as all of my brothers are not black." Taubira.

I’m here at Columbia University Institute for Scholars at Reid hall in Paris, France attending "Question of Belonging-The Visible and Invisible Minorities".

Will there be a redefinition of the very notion of race in this election?

Fixing the Clock at the Centre of the World

'Cultural guerrillas' cleared of lawbreaking over secret workshop in Pantheon

Emilie Boyer King in Paris
Monday November 26, 2007

Four members of an underground "cultural guerrilla" movement known as the Untergunther, whose purpose is to restore France's cultural heritage, were cleared on Friday of breaking into the 18th-century monument...

For a year from September 2005, under the nose of the Panthéon's unsuspecting security officials, a group of intrepid "illegal restorers" set up a secret workshop and lounge in a cavity under the building's famous dome. Under the supervision of group member Jean-Baptiste Viot, a professional clockmaker, they pieced apart and repaired the antique clock that had been left to rust in the building since the 1960s. Only when their clandestine revamp of the elaborate timepiece had been completed did they reveal themselves.

Paris riots: A backgrounder on French racism

Tue Nov 27, 2007 at 03:19:49 PM PDT

The recent riots in France have gotten the right-wing bloggers all a flutter, and why not? After all, it's a perfect opportunity to demonize the wogs as inherently violent creatures not fit to live amongst Aryan populations. "France is the country of liberté, égalité, fraternité," they'll tell you, "how could they possibly have any problems with racism?"

But as Graham Murray told us in 2005:

This is a country where a foreign name on a CV will seriously undermine your chances of getting a job; where landlords still instruct estate agents to find white tenants; where pâtissiers sell chocolate-covered cakes called tête de nègre (negro's head) and whose inhabitants apologetically describe their poor English as petit-nègre.
