Who's ready to defend the Constitution? A plea for defensive filibuster.

The New York Times is reporting here that the Dems will cave on warrantless wiretapping.
I say, that is freakin' bullshit.
Why did we elect these people?
To STOP George Bush.
And now, they want to give him more, unlimited and unaccountable power to determine who he can target for wiretaps.
Have they totally lost their minds? That's like giving Satan the keys to Heaven's Gate.
Article and discussion on the flip.
One Thing I Hate about Olbermann
Mon Nov 27, 2006 at 01:27:00 PM PDT
Don't get me wrong, I love the man and his show. He is the one broadcaster who has been telling truth to power for well over a year now. He first came onto my own radar last october after he literally danced a jig after reporting that Bill O'Reilly had anounced he would retire in two years.
Since then he's been a godsend. Reporting the abuses of this Presidency in agressive manner with his infrequent but incredibly powerful Special Comments.
His ratings are up. O'Reilly and Faux News ratings are down.
These are all good thing in my mind. But there are some things about Olbermann and his show that really, truly annoy me. Details over the flip.
Kossack Exclusive from John Dean

John Dean was particularly helpful to me as I worked to usher Glenn Greenwald's How Would a Patriot Act? into the world. I asked him for a blurb. To give one, he said, he would have to fact-check the entire book before lending his name. Ahh...integrity! Grateful for his time and the eventual blurb, I offered to read his new book, Conservatives Without Conscience[
http://www.amazon.com/...], and told him that, if I found it worthy, I'd want to help spread word about the book to the blogs.
I find it worthy--and then some. I'll be posting on FireDogLake a full review, but wanted Kossacks to have a first read of a short Q&A that Mr. Dean put together especially for DailyKos. I'll also pose some follow-up questions to Mr. Dean for a post here later this week, so if you've got a question, please send it on.
A Kassandra warning, 1835

(This is from a book I read long ago in college, which stuck with me and shaped and changed my view of politics ever since. I've excerpted it recently, on my blog and ref'd it here. --Today, cleaning up a work area, I chanced upon a copy of it, and flipped through it looking for more relevant information. And this is what I happened to open to. Make of it what you will.)
In light of these diaries, and a related story from Crooked Timber-
...The small aristocratic societies that are formed by some manufacturers in the midst of the immense democracy of our age contain, like the great aristocratic societies of former ages, some men who are very opulent and a multitude who are wretchedly poor. The poor have few means of escaping from their condition and becoming rich,
