WHEN YOU SAY THE WORD "sociopath"most people think of serial killers. But although many serial killers are sociopaths, there are far more sociopaths leading ordinary lives. Chances are you know a sociopath. I say "ordinary lives," but what they do is far from ordinary. Sociopaths are people without a conscience. They don't have the normal empathy the rest of us take for granted. They don't feel affection. They don't care about others. But most of them are good observers, and they have learned how to mimic those feelings remarkably well.

We on the progressive left in this country have long known that our fearless-frat-boy-in-chief is (to put it simply) not wrapped too tight. (and inherently evil) I myself have always had a uneasy feeling that Bush was either back on the sauce or perhaps taking regular medication for some undisclosed mental health condition. I mean, how is it possible that George Bush walks around every day, clueless and carefree; ne'er a qualm - no facial ticks or twitches, while knowing deep down that his corrupt, despotic-style of governance is alone responsible for growing tyranny here at home and endless death and destruction abroad?

He's got to know, right?

Ultimately, George Bush wakes up everyday to a world in which he feels he's entitled. His world view is both myopic and misanthropic. With a stroke of a pen and seemingly without a semblance of compunction or remorse, Bush has calmly and casually killed, injured, tortured, ethnically-cleansed -- or condemned to a perpetual hell -- as many as a million people or more.

So, how does he compartmentalize?

I was reading BarbinMD's diary about Bush's probable fear of prosecution, and decided that I have questions for the man, too.  So today I was reading Digby, and in there is a discussion of a Fred Barnes column on Bush's "head's up" meeting with journalists.

In that column, Barnes quotes Bush thusly:

I've never been more convinced that the decisions I made are the right decisions.

I bet you've already figured out my question, but follow me over to the other side for the (somewhat vulgar) asking of it.
