I may be naive, but ...

Sat May 17, 2008 at 01:43:41 PM PDT

I may be naive, but ...

     - Obama's use of the term "sweetie" is not a measure of his ideological or political qualifications.

     - what possible justification can there be for millions of dollars in subsidies going to rich horse breeders who are in the Sport of Kings?

     - where were the hundreds of "big brains" in dozens of think tanks around Washington when it came to predicting $125 a barrel oil?

     - where is the bloated bureaucracy known as the United Nations when it comes to doing anything about the ongoing tragedy in Darfur?

     - why are we spending billions of dollars in high-tech fighter planes and battleships when the technology of the enemy we will fight is the turban on his head and the sandals on his feet?

     - why does the American public have to endure months and years of presidential campaigns when Britain accomplishes a much more rational process in a matter of weeks?

Democratic Candidates Should Stay Out Of Local Primaries

Sat May 17, 2008 at 01:11:35 PM PDT

Congressman Tim Mahoney, Florida who is unopposed in HIS Democratic nomination, has affiliated himself with one of 5 Democrats running in a primary for County Commissioner. The district that these 5 are vying for is almost 90% minority and heavily Democratic.

Stop hitting at Alegre and other Kos diarists

Sat May 17, 2008 at 01:07:15 PM PDT

Update: Thanks for the interest.I did post this at MyDD and lo and behold,I get the same stream of responses (sorts of pro and con and a lot favorable to the idea in my diary).
My point is that it is easier for the victor to be generous.
I am not asking for the moon and her first born,I am asking that Democrats suck it up, stop the bleeding and get ready to smite the Joe Liebermans and McBushes and McCains of this world. Obama can be generous, he has the high ground. We have to pick and choose and we don't have a huge surplus of supporters to toss away. If you believe all our people are precious, stop wondering about "our" people, claim them.

Democrats Are Learning

Fri May 16, 2008 at 09:57:43 PM PDT

Unlike every single presidential candidate the Democrats have proferred forward from 1968 through 2004, it appears that we as Democrats are finally learning how to win and win big.  If elections are about issues, the RW GOP can NEVER win and conservatism will go the way of the Edsel. Conservatives know this reality better than anyone.

Many of us understand that the way for Democrats to win on the issues is simple:  1)  Protect middle class economic interests (education, progressive tax code, affordable health care, consumer rights, clean environment, labor rights, etc..)  2)  Keep government out of your personal lives; 3) Maintain a security based (not Halliburton based) foreign policy; 4)  Govern with integrity and transparency and 5)  Understand that certain issues (i.e. guns) are best left to the local level.

Getting a Democrat in the White House is the Easy Part

Fri May 16, 2008 at 03:04:57 PM PDT

As much as I'd like to believe that a President Obama will move our country onto a new path, there's this lingering fear in me that our next leader will be challenged unlike any other in our recent history and some of those challenges might be more formidable than any mere mortal can handle.

We need to resolve right now that, assuming Barack Obama becomes our Commander In Chief and he doesn't morph into the Anti-Christ as the wackos predict, that we will not succumb to fear should things go terribly wrong.

Reagan Democrats Don't Exist - Open Letter to KO

Fri May 16, 2008 at 02:56:00 PM PDT

I don't know about you guys, but I am sick of hearing about how "Reagan Democrats" will be the turning point.  The general election battle is heating up, so I think it is time we dispel this myth for good.

REAGAN DEMOCRATS DON'T EXIST
They did in the 80s, but no more.  Today we call those people Republicans. My dad was part of the Reagan revolution, and he has voted for exactly one democrat since then, Leonard Boswell, and that was ten years ago.

With no more ado, my letter to Keith Olbmermann

My Open Letter to Supporters of Any Candidate

Fri May 16, 2008 at 09:22:55 AM PDT

I shouldn't really have to write this, because some of you already know it. In fact most of you probably do, but are too deep within the festering bowels of Campaign '08 to keep it in mind.

So, with brain planted firmly in bollocks, I say:

Your candidate is not an extension of yourself, so don't project your hopes, dreams, hang-ups, prejudices, and fears onto their carefully constructed personalities.  Your candidate does not, deep down, care about you or about accurately representing you. They probably do not like you.

Dear Jews...

Fri May 16, 2008 at 07:08:32 AM PDT

Dear George,

Here's our first draft of your speech to the Knesset.

Tell us what you think.

Love, Condi ;)

so angry I am in tears (Righteous indignation)

Thu May 15, 2008 at 05:00:18 PM PDT

this first part was put in the midday open thread but I feel SO pissed off that can't see straight still, so as I choking back the tears and bile forgive the deep anger; the fact this has been covered, be better women and men than I and lack of control as I am cursing ever other word.

remember yesterday I brought you the words of our moron-in-chief about giving up golf "for the troops". After listening to Olbermann I am so angry! so pissed off! and so hurt for the over 4000 dead troops and 40K to 60K injured, and 100K to 1.2million dead Iraqis and their families that I am at work SO mad so angry so pained that I am fighting back the tears. THAT the world sees us as him. That we have this UNFEELING, unknowing SON OF A BITCH, as our leader.
There has been a lot of "bad" leaders in the free world, but none of them made a nation a nation of war crimes. Son of a Bitch has made us all look like we don't care about anyone else but ourselves, that we will kill anyone for any reason. THAT IS NOT what we are, we aren't FUCKING the NAZI. YOU fucking son of a bitch as a moron-in-chief you sent 100's of thousand men and woman US and Iraqi's to war for no reason, NONE!!!

Suffer The Forgotten And Faceless (Updated)

Thu May 15, 2008 at 02:36:50 PM PDT

(Updated below)

The following constitutes mainly a repost of something I've written last year, along with new commentary added. The reasons for this are two-fold: A) there has been zero development on the matter since last year; and B) today is BloggersUnite's Human Rights day.

OBAMA Supporters Count Too.

Thu May 15, 2008 at 10:11:26 AM PDT

I was vacillating about whether I wanted to write this diary or not, but I'm really sick of this shit now. In this diary it is reported that a group calling itself "Clinton Supporters Count Too" is planning on protesting outside the Ohio DNC office in Columbus because they feel like Hillary has been treated poorly by the party in this primary. Photobucket

That's bullshit.

More over the jump.

The Special Love of JonniJoe.

Thu May 15, 2008 at 10:09:11 AM PDT

First we had Bennifer, then Brangela, and now Maverick and Joementum are in the middle of a were-not-afraid-of-wrinkly-man-union-tour and... well... it's got me thinking.

Who are these guys?

It's Hard to Win Elections With a Fork in Your Back...

Thu May 15, 2008 at 08:27:50 AM PDT

Forget the Polar Bears; the way things are going, George W. Bush may have to list the Republican Party as endangered. Short of resurrecting Ronald Reagan, it looks like the GOP won't be able to avoid a total collapse.

And they know it.

Who would have thought that labeling Barack Obama as an elitist militant Christian Muslim terrorist sympathizer would backfire? That "supporting" Hillary Clinton after years of labeling her (and her husband) a monster would be met with skepticism? That the countless scandals, the dismissal of domestic issues and the transparent lipservice paid to our brave troops would have more of an impact on voters then lapel pins, gay marriage and playing the "Greatest Hits of 9-11" 24/7?

"Who," I ask! Who?

Not the GOP...

John Edwards' Speech An Affront To All Women

Wed May 14, 2008 at 07:16:37 PM PDT

John Edwards' speech was one of the most sexist, condescending, patronizing speeches I have ever heard in my life...

Polishing the Bishop.

Wed May 14, 2008 at 05:31:43 AM PDT

In a move that will likely net me the next Nobel Peace Prize, I, Jeffrey Lieber, have decided to give up self-satisfying for as long as the war rages in Iraq.

See... I am not a war time masturbator.

All This Punditry, and I Just Have To Laugh

Wed May 14, 2008 at 01:38:28 AM PDT

I confess, I didn't even watch one second of cable news on Tuesday.  I played poker.  I got a friend on the phone nearly 3 hours after the polls closed, and he gave me a hilarious, gorgeously profane encapsulation of the massive insipidry of Greater Pundolia.

Right as we were winding up our conversation, he mentions, reading off TV:

"Breaking: Democrat wins special election in Mississippi."

I started laughing.  All that effort in punditry.  So pointless.  All the exit poll wankery, so much drilling down, so little feel for the spirit at loose in the land.

America, the spoiled

Tue May 13, 2008 at 11:02:31 PM PDT

As a prelude to my first diary entry on the Daily Kos, I feel that it is appropriate to give readers a brief background about me.  I'm not sure how much anyone could really want to know about my life, but I think it can be helpful when a reader has the opportunity to get to know the author.

I spent the first fifteen years of my life  as a republican, a very religious republican.  After my parents enrolled me in a "hippie" high school, it did not take long for me to change my views and embrace common sense.  I spent my las years in high school reading and debating very radical, theoretical political philosophies.  As a non-voting teenager, politics was always an ideal or a concept to debate, not a real system that can actually be changed.  It was not until George W's first term in office that I came to understand the impact our democratic republic has on real people.  Needless to say, I voted for Ralph Nader and in so doing, voted for George Bush.  I have since developed a passion for politics and a new philosophy about life as a whole.  After saying all this, I will get to the point of today's blog.

The cry who loved me

Tue May 13, 2008 at 10:51:42 PM PDT

Fratricide is painful. No,its apparently very Democratic.  This from No Quarter, long a refuge of teh Clintonauts, seems to reach a remarkable level of ugly desperation, even for those who seem to prefer voting for 4 more years of McSame over Obama.  Look at your own peril http://noquarterusa.net/...
