And as I do every year (well, this is the second) I'm postin' this diary as it's me own personal mission to change the misconception of the good folks here and elsewhere who keep referrin' to the Republicans as Pirates! Arrrr! Don't insult Pirates with such bilge! Pirates were more like Robin Hood's of the high seas than the lily-livered scallywags that abide in the White House and despoil our land with their stealin' of our booty! These scurvy dogs couldn't hold their own agin' us, and if it were up to us, that son of a biscuit eater they call the president would be first to walk the plank!

Did you know ourrr Representative in Congress has voted  to support the war in Iraq? Then he voted AGAINST a $1,500 grant for every veterean of Iraq and Afghanistan, and voted AGAINST expanding access to health insurance for our soldiers. I be a peaceful pirate, and I'm sick of Joe Knollenberg runnin' a jig with our soldiers! I be weary of any scallywag who sends our soldiers to fight, then votes against supporting them.

It's one of the least recognized days on the calendar, but it is one to break up the tension of a political season with a bit of lightness.

Tuesday, Sept. 19, is "Talk Like A Pirate Day" during which you can spice up your language by using "shiver me timbers," "ahoy," "avast," and a lot of "arrgh, arrghs" in your conversations.

The day was developed by two actors in the Northwest and they have been trying to spread word of this day around in various ways. This is one attempt to urge people to celebrate the day.

To the tune of "The Patriot Game" or "With God On Our Side":

Avast all me hearties, ye bold buccaneers.
Ye fair seaside maidens, now lend me yer ears;
Thar's new rules fer plunder, wiff fancy new names
'N new ways of winnin' the piratin' games.

The Jolly old Roger no longer will do.
Our two-headed eagle is red, white 'n blue.
Our red-glaring rockets bring orange bursts of flame:
It's awesome 'n shocking, our new pirate game.

It's called Liberation ter take what we can.
Wiff God as our bos'n, thar's no need ter plan.

Ever wish you could set sail on the tall ships?

Ever wish you could keel haul every scurvy dog on Capitol Hill?

Ever want to burst into your local Blockbuster and demand the latest releases, a stack of blank tapes and a couple of their finest VCRrrrr's?

Well, we may do our Christmas shopping at the last minute every year, but, by golly, I'm determined not to let this year's TLIPD sneak up on me.
