Like swarms of locusts, Corporate lobbyists have surrounded the hill and taken legislative staffers hostage. As I type, various amendments are being renegotiated, gutted, moved around, renamed, folded in... All, all of this hush, hush last minute activity is per the demands of the Corporate Cheap Labor Lobby.
Our goal is clearly NOT TO FIND a qualified and interested U.S. worker.
It's on video, believe it or not, and even presented as a selling point to peddle their services by Cohen & Grigsby Law Firm. That's right, this group of attorneys put an entire seminar on how to screw over the American worker on YouTube. Imagine that, a seminar from lawyers on how to make sure one doesn't have to hire an American worker!
In this new era of globalization the interests of companies and countries have diverged. In contrast with the past, what is good for America’s global corporations is no longer necessarily good for the American people.
Yesterday we had an incredible betrayal of the Professional workforce by Maria Cantwell (D-WA). She has introduced S.Admt 1249 which will absolutely decimate Americans in STEM careers as well as target most middle class careers for labor arbitrage. Other Corporate representatives are Cornyn, Leahy and Hatch.
The Programmers Guild has already issued a damning report on what this amendment would do. This post is a must read.
With so many labor organizations and facts screaming in the face of Congress on how middle class jobs are being targeted for offshore outsourcing and labor arbitrage, why do our representatives seem hell bent on selling out working America?
Yesterday Senator Bernie Sanders managed to get an amendment accepted that takes a 3,500 fee, a minuscule drop in the bucket of total labor arbitrage profits from using cheap labor, to fund scholarships for Americans to go to college.
Yet, Corporations, who claim we need to invest in America whine that they shouldn't have to give back to America while they ship our jobs offshore.
Senator Dick Durbin gave a damning May 8th Floor speech on H-1B guest worker Visas. It's clear this Democrat is trying to do something about an injustice, that affects all of working America and we need to support Dick Durbin and Grassley in this effort.
Realize what they are up against here: the massive Corporate lobbyists, their own colleagues representing special interests...and look over the flip at what India is threatening via the WTO, GATS mode 4 in their efforts to labor arbitrage our jobs.
Well, look at how these companies think trading people is a WTO USTR issue!
I am taking it up with the US trade representatives that such letters are better written through the US TR's than being written to companies because it causes lack of predictability. In this, I have expressed concern. Services are an ongoing part of our negotiations in the WTO and will form an important component, and anything, which viciates the atmosphere of these service negotiations will not lead to a breakthrough, which we are looking forward to.
The GALL of this guy, the outrageous insolence, the effrontery, look, he is giving OUR Senators a WARNING!
While we all are examining this new Trade Deal and thankfully Public Citizen is analyzing, yet another Corporate cheap labor agenda item is potentially about to be passed, brokered in back room deals and going unnoticed.
The bill, S.1348 : A bill to provide for comprehensive immigration reform and for other purposes. From the congressional record:The text of S.1348 has not yet been received from GPO. In other words, the bill is not available to the public for review.
Yet the renamed S.1348 is supposedly S.2611, the "comprehensive" immigration reform bill that has massive H-1B Visa increases, yet even more guest worker Visas and even a method to turn our University system into a glorified green card machine.
The text is not even presented to the public, yet this is supposedly the Senate business of May 14th, which is tomorrow!!!!.
Bob Gringely today reported on the internal inside mumbles that IBM Global Services is going to layoff over 100,000 U.S. workers and offshore outsource entire divisions. Cringley reports IBM's U.S. Worker destruction agenda, named LEAN, is going on beind closed doors as we speak and IBM has a strategy to do this over time, in order to not draw too much attention from the press. Can the leak in the U.S. job dam be disguised to deny the flood of jobs being offshore outsourced?
Hiding the agenda appears to be IBM's only LEAN objective.
