dKos Poll: Second Choice
Mon Sep 24, 2007 at 12:39:11 PM PDT
Okay - we get very little movement on the front runners every month, but I am curious after reading some of the comments in the FP diary this morning, who is your all second choice. Say your first bows out tomorrow for what ever reason or Gore never gets in the race, who would you support?
Personally I would love to see our election done with instant runoff voting, as i think that would change the dynamic of the country greatly (not as much as publicly financed elections, but still would have a nice impact).
So take the poll and then make your case in the comments for your second choice candidate. Please keep the comments positive, as we get enough sniping in the other diaries.
Looking for 'Edwards' in Kansas City
Tue Aug 28, 2007 at 10:03:47 AM PDT
Check out the announcement in the extended text, but in short we are holding a mock presidential forum next week for our monthly DFA meeting in Kansas City and I invite you to A) Attend or B) "Represent" Edwards in the debate. This is very low key and more about a positive discussion of the candidates positions than a debate calling each other out. We have folks playing Hillary, Obama and Kucinich so far but I would like to make sure we have someone standing in for Edwards.
check out the details below and then email me at etinkc (at) earthlink [d0t] net for questions or more information. I look forward to seeing you there.

Web Hosting Help For a Moron
Thu Jun 07, 2007 at 09:41:31 PM PDT
In brief here is my story - I was born - did some crap - and now i am trying to get our local DFA groups shit together. We are doing fairly well, except for the web page - we have one (it sucks) but is is being hosted (or held hostage) by someone not with the group and not really inclined to be helpful. I swear I am not looking for free webdesign help, but I have a few questions and am hoping you can get me on the right path - if you are so inclined - please follow me over the hump.
Loose Pennies - Conspiracy Theory Proof!!
Sun Apr 29, 2007 at 11:00:48 PM PDT
Sure most of us thought the Bush Administration was too stupid to pull off the downing of the twin towers and that other little one that no one really remembers, or designing a levy to collapse at the right time, or even get a white house press as for a prostitute (oh wait, they did pull that off) but it turns out we were all wrong.
See I finally got a new tin foil hat (who new the stuff you buy in the Piggly Wiggly is made out of aluminum – that stuff will never keep out the mind control rays) and it has allowed me to see the truth. Not only can they pull it off – but they did it again. Quick, follow me to the other side before then men in black get here.
Democrats Backing Katherine Harris?
Thu Jun 29, 2006 at 07:46:08 PM PDT
Ah, the gift that keeps on giving...ladies and gentleman - The "good" lady from Florida, Katherine Harris!

Just a few minutes ago I was wondering why we haven't heard from Kos on any great Harris bungles lately, thought maybe she had been finally committed or something, so I did a google news search. Thank the all mighty flying spaghetti monster she hasn't been committed, but is still batshit crazy as ever.
Married Male LF Roomate for YK
Mon Apr 24, 2006 at 10:47:59 AM PDT
So I am getting ready to registerfor YearlyKos today - Getting my flight, booking a hotel room and paying the fee, and I adding up the cost.
Fortunately, I am in decent financial shape and can afford this trip, but would like to save as much as possible, and was wondering if anyone was sharing rooms?
This may be a little slim to be a diary, but hoped others could use this as a place to post thoughts about the logistics of getting to the convention, and we should realy have at least one YearlyKos related diary a day! More below the jump.
Flu Pandemic? Get Pet Food. (w/poll)
Thu Apr 20, 2006 at 03:11:25 PM PDT
My Company (a major Oil Co) has been pushing the prevention of the spread of Influenza and Germs at work recently. We have new signs and hand sanitizer everywhere, in addition to hospital strength disinfectant wipes for our phones etc.
I thought this was just another corporate fad. Then today, I got a flyer in my mailbox today with 4 easy steps on it. The interesting part was the reverse side, which read:
Why What We Write Matters
Sat Mar 11, 2006 at 10:43:18 PM PDT
I have been having an ongoing discussion with my liberal step-father over the Abramoff Scandal. He is a big reader of the NYT and get much of his news from the internet, although mostly corporate sites. I have been pushing the point that this is republican only scandal, and he insists that Dems are involved too. I have been avoiding the minutiae detail and sticking too ONLY Republican took illegal money from Abramoff, and in fact no Dem has gotten a dime from Abramoff period.
He was skeptical and today sent me an email quoting from an article saying that Dems benefited from Abramoff as well. This was my response:
ALL of this money comes from his associates (which are just people who work in a large lobbying firm and his Client, which are the Indian tribes that he has pled guilty to ripping off.) In fact, overall, dems got comparatively less money AFTER these clients hired Abramoff than BEFORE he was advising them.
He accused me of "cutting it very fine" and sent me two more articles:
So, What are Your Favorite Podcast?
Thu Feb 16, 2006 at 11:20:44 PM PDT
OrangeClouds115 Diary:
Air America Premium Can Kiss My Ass reminded me that I have been meaning to do this Diary for a while.
I got an Ipod for myself this winter, and I am totally addicted to it. I have already put most of my CD's on there, bought a few more album's, and even an Audio Book. I have probably spent as much on accessories as the original IPod, including a port for my Car Stereo, which totally rocks.
Like Orange, I used to podcast some of AAR shows, but have a problem with their very high (imho) subscription fee. I do, however, love my podcasts, and will share my favorites below the flip.
Firefox Installed: Now what
Sun Jan 08, 2006 at 10:20:49 PM PDT
Okay: I guess a Sunday night is as good a time as any for this Diary. Figure I won't be pushing too much off the page.
Last week when that new scare over virus imbedded in images occur, it was enough to get me off my ass (so to speak, I didn't actually have to leave my chair) and install Firefox.
I have been using it at home for week or so now, and getting used to it. I like the tabs and the bookmark folder but am ready to really see what this can do - so tell me my ever so trusty (and when it comes to browsers, opinionated) kossacks, what other cool things should I be doing with this. What extensions are a must have? Any website with essential tools that I should check out? Please take a minute and point the way.
And for those who have thought about making the switch, but were not sure, I must say that installation was a breeze. It even copies your favorites, homepage, etc.
Squashing Dissent - IRS, Churches and the NAACP
Tue Nov 08, 2005 at 11:57:48 AM PDT
From
Democracy Now this morning (Links are mine):
IRS Warns Church For Anti-War Sermon
The Internal Revenue Service has warned one of Southern California's largest churches it could lose its tax-exempt status because a priest gave a sermon criticizing the Iraq war two days before last year's presidential election. The IRS has sent the All Saints Episcopal Church
in Pasadena a warning that the federal tax code prohibits tax-exempt organizations, including churches, from intervening in political campaigns and elections. The IRS has issued warnings to other non-profits, including the NAACP, for issuing statements deemed critical of the president.
WaPo Called Me to See What I Think
Tue Nov 01, 2005 at 04:36:14 PM PDT
I just got polled by the Washington Post/ABC. I must admit to being giddy at the opportunity.
Unfortunately, I was busy trying to get the kids dinner on the table so I couldn't take careful notes, but to my best recollection, here is what they asked - (The order is probably off, and I am sure I forgot some things hopefully others who get polled can fill in the details):

Love Thy Neighbor
Sat Jul 02, 2005 at 01:34:39 PM PDT
A Modern Day True Tale
I live in a fairly diverse neighborhood in Kansas City. While I love the old craftsmen style houses, big trees, and funky shops, it is the people that really make this place home. We are part of the only neighborhood coalition the intentionally includes both sides of Troost Avenue., a historic racial divider in this city. Our block has families, students from the local university (which is just 3 blocks away), retired folks, a Muslim family whose house doubles as a mosque for Friday prayers and 3 openly gay couples. For the first time in my life I know all my neighbors names.
I work over on the other side of the state line in a different world called Overland Park, Kansas. Even though it is only 12 miles away, it is like I enter bizzaro world, where all the houses have fenced yards, all the golf courses are private, and all the cars are SUV's with Bush 04 stickers.....(go below for the rest of the story)

If it was your Child's Teacher, WWYD?
Tue Mar 08, 2005 at 09:27:20 PM PDT
I have a situation that I want your all help with. My son is in first grade at a local public charter school. While the school seems fairly progressive (it is a French immersion school) his current teacher is not.
I know she is a big Bushie, and some mentioned that she was a religious righty, but even with that I gave her the benefit of the doubt. The first sign of something wrong was when my son came home with a pamphlet for a Phil Gramm event in his backpack. He didn't know where it came from but since it could have been anyone we (my wife and I) ignored it.
What is the Measure of A Man?
Sat Feb 19, 2005 at 09:42:01 PM PDT
Disclaimer: this is not a diary about Gannon so most people can just skip on by. This is an little amusing story, and a chance for people to tell their own tales.
I got a call today from a friend from work. Being the only Jews, and one of a few liberals, at company with mostly arrogant white male Christian conservatives, has led to a few bonding moments, but today's was my absolute favorite.
