To Nancy and Harry: Now Fear This
Fri Aug 31, 2007 at 08:30:22 AM PDT
As Turkana helpfully pointed out in a recent (and excellent) diary, the Democrats won the 2006 election. The American people repudiated the Cheney Regime and stripped the Publican party of control of both houses of Congress. Voters wanted change, especially with respect to the Iraq War.
So, what are the results of the Democratic takeover? Their performance so far has been a miserable failure. More troops in Iraq than ever before. More no-strings-attached funding for the disaster in Iraq. Congress not only failed to fix FISA, they endorsed the administration's gutting of it and the Constitution.
Harry Reid for Attorney General
Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 03:56:39 PM PDT
Now that AGAG has made his long overdue exit, it's time to consider his replacement. I think a good case can be made for Bush to appoint Harry Reid as Attorney General.
Harry Reid has served as an Assemblyman, a U.S. Representative, Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, and in the U.S. Senate. He is also experienced in the private practice of law. He is qualified for the position. And if his President said he needed him, magnanimous guy that Harry is, I'm sure he'd assume accept the position.
Clinton/Ford '08?
Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 08:19:34 PM PDT
I've been saying all over this website that I will support the Democratic nominee, no matter what. I've done the ugly math, and decided that even if it is Hillary Clinton, I could pull the lever (we still get levers to pull in Michigan, instead of screens to touch).
But then, someone told me of "Clinton/Ford". And it was decently sourced.
Let me be clear: I will NOT vote for that ticket. Presidency be damned. Democratic Party be damned. DailyKos be damned. I will not vote for that ticket.
2002: The Year Democrats Broke
Sun Aug 12, 2007 at 01:38:05 PM PDT
Remember the documentary, "1991: The Year Punk Broke"? I think there is an apt comparison to be made between the Democratic Party in 2002, and rock audiences in 1991.
For too long, hairbands like Poison, Motley Crue, Cinderella, etc., dominated rock and roll, selling millions of albums and selling out large venues. Then, it suddenly dried up for them. They lost their audience. People were feeling cheated, and wanted something genuine.
IRV Primary Poll (Please Vote)
Thu Aug 09, 2007 at 11:05:23 AM PDT
I'm interested to see who would be the community's choice for the Democratic presidential nomination on an Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) basis. So, I figured I would conduct a very unscientific IRV poll and see.
Who's Your Number Two?
Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 10:41:30 AM PDT
Thought it would be interesting to see who would win the race for "second choice". I was gonna ask Kos to do it as a follow up to the current straw poll on the front page. But then I figured, why not do it my damned self?
Tammy Faye, JetBlue, etc.
Sat Jul 21, 2007 at 10:17:31 PM PDT
This will be a bitchy diary.
Let's get down to brass tacks. JetBlue makes it a point to be non anti-union. Tammy Faye was involved in one of the biggest confidence schemes of the 20th Century.
We're supposed to be "reality-based," remember?
To all Congressional Democrats
Mon Jul 02, 2007 at 05:25:58 PM PDT
First let me say that this is not my site (obviously). And I cannot speak for DailyKos. Even Markos would be hesitant to speak for everyone on this site.
But this is my country. It's my Constitution. And it's my Democratic Party.
Unless and until you draft Articles of Impeachment against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales (at least), I do not want to see a diary from you. I do not want an e-mail from you. I do not want any mailings from you. I do not want anything from you.
SiCKO - Republican Thanks Michael Moore (Really!)
Mon Jun 25, 2007 at 07:04:28 PM PDT
Yes, it's true, if Jack Lessenberry of The Metro Times is to be believed (and I have no reason not to believe him).
Former Governor William Milliken (R) of Michigan told Michael Moore that he did a:
"...brilliant job calling attention to the nation's biggest problem, and that he hoped everyone saw it [SiCKO]."
In Praise of Our Democratic Presidential Candidates
Sun Jun 17, 2007 at 02:39:29 PM PDT
Here I am in my comfy chair, indulging in my usual lazy Sunday afternoon/evening ritual - sipping my cocktail and making smart-assed comments in other people's diaries. Could I relax and enjoy it? Nooooooo!
I'm sick of the war between Edwards and Obama supporters. I'm tired of the "I Hate Hillary and Will Never Vote for Her" bullshit. In fact, I'm so sick and tired, that I felt compelled to write a diary about it. A bitchy diary. You've disrupted my lazy Sunday, and now you must pay. In my best step-fatherly voice: Take a time out, think about what you've done, and meet me on the other side, pronto, if you know what's good for you!
Obama Campaign Counsel: "Free Scooter Libby"
Wed Jun 13, 2007 at 09:39:16 AM PDT
I think Hillary Clinton won the debate. You?
Sun Jun 03, 2007 at 06:15:14 PM PDT
I just finished the debate, and wanted to write my initial thoughts before all the spin.
At the halfway mark, I thought it was a tie between Edwards and Obama. Both of them did a great job tonight. I support John Edwards, but I would happily vote for Senator Obama. (I would vote for Senator Clinton, too, but maybe not so happily.)
But after watching the whole thing, I think Hillary Clinton won tonight's debate.

Two Great Choices - One Bright Future
Sun Apr 15, 2007 at 08:41:14 PM PDT
I've thought a great deal about the upcoming presidential contest. Heretofore, I've been the reluctant bride. But, if anyone cares, I've made my choices. And I'm locked in. (Al Gore, if he joins the race, will be the Wes Clark of '04 - too little too late).
John Edwards for President. Bill Richardson for Vice President.
CNN - "Bush: Democrat plan would give enemy victory"
Sat Apr 14, 2007 at 12:24:38 PM PDT
Here they go again. On CNN's home page, under the "Politics" heading, there is a byline that reads:
"Bush: Democrat plan would give enemy victory."
Besides the substance, what's wrong with that sentence?
When you click on the story (which has a Washington byline and credits the AP), the first line says:
"President Bush said Saturday that a Democratic plan to set an end date for the war....
(My emphasis.)
What's up with that? Is Suzanne Malveaux writing the headlines on CNN's website?
Detroit and Sour Grapes
Thu Apr 05, 2007 at 09:15:11 PM PDT
There was a meeting of the Board of the Detroit Public Schools on April 4, 2007. The meeting was held so that the Board could vote on closing certain schools, in light of a $400,000,000.00 deficit (that's not a typo), due mainly to declining enrollment. Here's how it went, according to WDIV-TV/ClickonDetroit.com:

Retailers and Plan B - Rewarding Good Behavior
Fri Mar 09, 2007 at 07:51:47 PM PDT
We all remember how Target endangers women by allowing their pharmacies to decline to dispense Plan B. Same with Wal Mart. If you find yourself in need of the medication and some douchebag behind the counter decides his/her interpretation of scripture trumps science, then you're screwed.
Target:
In the rare event that a pharmacist's beliefs conflict with filling a guest's prescription for the emergency contraceptive Plan B, our policy requires our pharmacists to take responsibility for ensuring that the guest's prescription is filled in a timely and respectful manner, either by another Target pharmacist or a different pharmacy.
Wal Mart:
The company said it will maintain its conscientious objection policy, which lets employees who don't feel comfortable dispensing a prescription to refer customers to another pharmacist or pharmacy.
