WANTED: Progressive connections

by Rayne

After reading Buffy Orpington's diary today, it dawned on me that although we are speaking with each other, we are often speaking PAST each other and not answering each others' needs.

What do you need?  Is it a job or an employee?  Is it a ride or a car?  Is it volunteer labor or a volunteer slot that needs to be filled?

Let's get down to raising the tide, make the connections, draw the lines between the dots.  And let's do it NOW, because many of us can't afford to await.  We need each other right NOW.  More on the flip.

DEANIACS: Kick Joe's Ass, please

by Rayne

Jane Hamsher's most recent post at FireDogLake says it all:

"Lieberman Throws Howard Dean Under the Bus"

Agh!!  Deaniacs need to kick Joe's ass all across the state of Connecticut and then some.  It's one thing to launch effective criticism of the candidate you're running against, but sliming the chair of the party that you claim you still represent?

F*ck you, Joe.  You are dead to us as a Democratic Party member.  Democratic Party members respect democratic (little d) processes, and they don't get bitchy with the party they expect to help them.   [UPDATE: SEE BELOW JUMP -- LEAVE COMMENTS FOR JOE2006 NOW AVAILABLE!!]

TAKE ACTION: Demand Coverup Investigation

by Rayne

One more time I'm going to give this a shot; maybe I didn't make myself clear enough the first time.

If that hypocritical dipsh*t Brent Bozell can muster 90,000 angry parents calling the FCC about Janet Jackson's breast, we can surely muster MORE firepower to provide real protections to our children's safety.  The Republicans actually booed a mother-grandmother and fellow House member Nancy Pelosi for asking for a counted voted to support a bi-partisan investigation; Boehner actively thwarted an investigation by asking for voice vote on a different resolution that only referred the Foley matter to the House Ethics Committee (and we know what a flaming joke that Committee is).

At what point will we see Boehner's and Hastert's actions for what they are: obstruction of justice?

Let's make sure the House Republicans understand that this attitude and behavior is completely unacceptable, that they cannot continue with business as usual, putting children at risk and insulting parents' representatives who ask them to do an adequate job of oversight.  Action Items below the jump.

CALL OR FAX THE HOUSE LEADERS AND ETHICS COMMITTEE MEMBERS and ask them to establish a BI-PARTISAN investigation committee IMMEDIATELY to investigate the facts behind Rep. Tom Foley's conduct and House Leadership's response.  Nothing less will do since Republicans have already covered up this scandal.

Although CBS has shown the Naudet brothers film, "9/11", twice in concert with previous anniversaries, CBS is killing or delaying showing this movie this year because of concerns about profanity.

What's profanity, one must ask?  Words deemed to be obscene in normal, day-to-day conversation -- but used and depicted in real life in a situational crisis?

Or the secondary promotion of a competing, bastardized piece of propaganda on another network by killing/delaying a much better and TRUE piece of cinematography?

GOP fingerprints all over the body

by Rayne

We all know the decedent; we can see the corpse lying there, attracting vultures and all the other creatures that thrive on the results of mortality.

But for some reason we are not looking more closely at the fingerprints all over the scene, at the footprints leading up to and away from the body.  We look away as the thieves pick the pockets and the bodysnatchers size up the remains -- and as the body reanimates.

Joe Lieberman is dead to us as a Democratic Party member, but we're unwilling to look at what now mobilizes this undead thing.

[UPDATE: 1:13pm EDT -- no authorization yet to release name of source, but the situation is still critically important. Don't let the chatter over the middle east drown this out!] A little bird of my acquaintance asks for our urgent help; I don't currently have permission for full attribution, but I'll update this diary in the morning if/when I do.

This may be the very thing that the Bush Administration has been seeking to obscure, what with the currently escalation in the Middle East and the publication of Novak's non-story. This is as bad and as important as the Wilsons' lawsuit; the public must hear about it.

In short, we are talking about the international condemnation of our government for violations of human rights on American soil against Americans, in manners consistent with abuses by U.S. military and intelligence forces abroad.

I'm making a second request for help; we made a small dent, but there's still a very long way to go to rescue the invaluable resource that is CooperativeResearch.org.

One of the largest, most thorough resources of information about 9/11, the Iraq War and Katrina isn't a government-owned facility, nor a blogger's website, nor a corporate-owned media outlet.

It's open source.  It's about you and your need for transparency, and it's by you and others who make donations, both in the form of information and operating cash.

It's CooperativeResearch.org, run by the Center for Cooperative Research -- and they desperately need your help.

TAKE ACTION: Protect your food NOW

by Rayne

You probably missed Rep. Bart Stupak's (MI-D) presentation on the House floor last week, complete with graphic, showing the difference between two packages of ground beef.  One had been treated with carbon monoxide, the other not -- and both packages were five (5) months old.  One package was perky-looking pink and the other obviously showed its age.

Guess which one was treated?  And guess which one would make you sick? Check after the jump.

[UPDATED -- 08:23 PM EST -- Want to get the action request above the fold.] TAKE ACTION NOW: KEY VOTE IS TOMORROW. Contact your rep and ask them to vote NO on HR Bill 4167 on March 8. We want food safety laws and labels strengthened, not weakened; don't let corporate mega-farms and other corporate interests take away your states' rights to protect your food. Please call the Congressional Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask them to connect you with the office of your Representative.

After what has repeatedly been called the best speech -- nay, best ORATION -- of the last decade, Al Gore's speech at Constitution Hall has been virtually shut out of the mainstream media.

Following a list of action items, Gore called on Americans to fix the mess our country is now in.  That means fixing a broken media as well as demanding rigorous accountability through current representatives and at the ballot box.

FIX THE MEDIA.  GET AL GORE'S SPEECH OUT THERE.  Use these tools after the jump to get started.
