I just received an email from Arshad Hasan, Executive Director of Democracy for America. The email challenges Gore to "Jump In or Drop Out."
My read is that the email does a couple of things: (1) encourages people to vote in the DFA poll, and (2) more importantly, calls out Al Gore to fish or cut bait.
But the way in which it calls out for Gore is very interesting.
Since Kos has posted the official straw poll, here's one including Al Gore.
I still hold out hope.
Have you seen this?
Among other findings, the Summaries Report indicates:
Receipts by Republican House candidates increased 12% with increases for incumbent candidates (23%) and open seat candidates (15%) but a decline in overall receipts for Republican House challengers of 34% when compared with 2004. Democratic candidates' receipts were 26% higher than in the last cycle with a small increase for incumbents (4%) and larger increases for both open seat candidates (46%) and challengers, whose fundraising more than doubled when compared with 2004.
Like others across the country, I've been volunteering my time here in Georgia to help another candidate who stands on principle, Steve Sinton.
Here's one area where the importance of Principles versus Issues applies to the campaign I'm actively supporting: Stem Cell Research.
As indicated on Steve's Campaign Website (which will undergo a major overhaul in 2 weeks), Steve is an active supporter of broad and inclusive stem cell research.
Having recently routed first-term incubent Tom Price at an AARP Candidate Forum, taken up campaign headquarters residence at Newt Gingrich's old offices, and, oh yeah, setting a 10-year record for Democratic votes in the 6th District in the primary, Steve caught up with Joel Foster of 920am WGKA, an Atlanta-area news/talk/opinion station.
Here's why Steve is running, in his own words: 920am WGKA Audiophile Spot. Please check it out, if your computer has speakers (and yes, it's completely safe for work).
To turn GA-06 into a Shining Blue Star in this Southern Sea of Red, we MUST have the moral and financial assistance of the Netroots. Also please check out Steve's DFA-Link profile page.
See my prior diaries here: People Powered Politics! and here: Crashing the Gate, and puhlease's diary about the how Price dodged a debate with Steve, hiding behind a fake dinner with a VFW chapter, (CLASSIC!) here: Tom Price is a LIAR!. Also see Dengre's tour de force diary on how to defeat the Ralph Reed Republicans like Price, and why it's increasingly important to do so now, here: Forced Abortions = Trouble for the GOP.
Props go out to the East Cobb Democratic Alliance, East Cobb Dems, from whose blog this material was lifted. The author has graciously agreed to a wider distribution.
Steve's current challenge is to raise funds against the Price behemoth. Price was apparantly a receipient of much DeLay/Abramoff/Reed largesse, and it's up to us individual donors to bridge the significant gap.
Please show Steve some love here: Steve's Campaign Website, and enjoy the comments here:
As hilltopper points out in the comments to Kos's story, perhaps the biggest news of yesterday's primary is the relatively tremendous turnout of Georgia Dems.
On the flip I provide some layman's (and single-cup of coffee) examples of turnout numbers of the various races and my initial take on how this bodes for November '06 and beyond.
In short, things are looking good for the Dems even down here in Red Clay Georgia. What are your thoughts?
Steve and I were two of the first to rush to the front to shake Gore's hand. I overheard a voice say, "Mr. Gore, I'm taking up your challenge - I'm running for Congress." When Steve introduced himself to Al, I recognized the name and said, "Hey, you're running in my district." We met, talked about how inspiring the movie was, a little about Air America Radio (Steve's a co-creator with his brother, Jon), and exchanged cards.
Please join me on the flip for more and a request for help.
According to Box Office Mojo, An Inconvenient Truth pulled in an average of $70,332 per screen over the weekend (on 4 screens, while in limited release prior to a summerlong cross-country rollout). By comparison, X-Men 3 averaged a paltry $27,845 per screen, and it took that movie 3,690 screens to pull off its impressive #4 record weekend opening gross.
I smell an independently produced documentary hit - what will Tipper wear to the Oscars?
More on the flip...
Below are the results of a three-day poll in the state of Georgia. Results are based on telephone interviews with 800 likely voters in Georgia, aged 18+, and conducted May 5-7, 2006. The margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points.
According to the Treasury Department, from 1776-2000, the first 224 years of U.S. history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions, but in the past four years alone, the Bush administration borrowed $1.05 trillion.
Boortz book shooting up the best-seller list
From www.ajc.com:
Syndicated WSB-AM talker Neal Boortz and Rep. John Linder (R-Ga.) drew more than 1,000 people to the Cobb Civic Center Friday for a book signing and rally to support a retail sales tax.
