Supply, Demand and the Pill
Sun Aug 06, 2006 at 07:15:18 PM PDT
Pharmaceutical company Ortho-McNeil informed many public healthcare providers of its intention to increase the price charged for its contraceptive pill. Ortho used to charge public health services pennies for one type of birth control pills. That same one-month supply now costs North Dakota programs over $15.00 dollars, and over $21.00 in other states.
The decision by Ortho-McNeil was made public two weeks ago and was effective immediately in many states. To offset the costs, these clinics have had no choice but to pass on the rise in cost to their patients who can least afford it. Many health clinics receive over 70% of their contraceptive pill supply from Ortho, which is a major supplier of contraceptive in the industry.
Tia Hansuld, director of a Wyoming clinic
80 percent of the department's family planning patients fall below poverty, while the other 20 percent pay for contraceptives on a sliding-scale rate based on their income. As of Tuesday, this 20 percent of patients will pay no less than $10 for their birth control.

Lebanon strikes back, through no fault of its own
Sat Jul 22, 2006 at 06:55:18 PM PDT
Lebanon at fault?
In the past week or so, Israel has gone on the offensive against Hezbollah and has taken Lebanon and its people hostage. The Lebanese infrastructure is in shambles. Just today, bombs hit the transmission towers for telephone and television, including Hezbollah's Al-Manar and the privately run New TV. Thousands of Israeli bombs have fallen on Lebanese homes, roads, bridges, ports, broadcasting towers and even a lighthouse. Nearly 300 people, mainly civilians, have been killed, and many more have been displaced.

I'm sorry if this is rushed. I'm suffering from a stomach ache, a headache, and being rushed to go gambling with group of Kossacks at the Bellagio. : )

Bush Admin. Overpaid for FL Land, Rewarded $ Donors
Wed Jun 08, 2005 at 12:09:16 PM PDT
It seems that the Bush administration just can't avoid rewarding its big corporate friends and campaign contributors with sweetheart deals, all on the back of us taxpayers. According to this article found on
Bloomberg News, the Bush administration is implicated in overpaying a prominent family in Florida for rights on the Everglades. Estimates of the land value were tripled from earlier assessments. The Interior Department report will be made available to the Finance Committee today and some of the key players will be testifying today.

Repub wants Maher off air
Tue May 24, 2005 at 08:50:19 AM PDT
Please let me know if this is a redundant diary.
Bill Maher now. And perhaps Jon Stewart next. I just get the feeling that the media suppression of Newsweek and others might even move to suppressing fake news, comedy shows, and cable tv. I read this transcript last week and was rolling. I can't imagine that this is "treasonous."

Saturday Evening Bunny Blogging w/Poll
Sat May 21, 2005 at 09:16:13 PM PDT
What a lovely evening it is, to be alive in a vibrant city such as New York, but hanging out with a bunny rabbit??? Yes, indeed. Rather than bore you with the story of my life of late, which can be described as CFA-all-the-time, I will entertain you with pics of my roommate, who curiously never pays any rent, but eats, poops and lounges around all day. Georgie is his name. Of course, as you can see in the pictures, he is really pretty. (But, don't tell him that; he prefers handsome.)

Op-Ed on Stolen Election
Mon Apr 18, 2005 at 07:48:37 AM PDT
My jaws nearly dropped when I read this. Maybe, the lights are turning on slowly but surely? This op-ed was found in the AM New York's opinion page, a free daily in NYC, titled "Screaming Numbers" by Robert Koehler. I don't have a link, since this was taken directly from the paper.
