Democratic Representative (OH - 9th) Marcy Kaptur, has suggesed on Chris Mathhews' Hardball that Democrats and the Tea Party might find common ground around the issue of creating jobs in the U.S.A. This resonates with my own thinking of late as regards a call to economic nationalism which was recently given conceptual shape by a passage from Robert Reich's book Aftershock. Robert Reich's description of the platform of a hypothetical Independence Party has some very distasteful elements, particularly as regards immigrants but I find its draconian approach to banks and private capital appealing, ultimately perhaps even necessary.

If The Center Cannot Hold: Then What?

by Wolf10

Is New Democrat centrism becoming as endangered as its moderate Republican variation? It would be far from exaggeration to maintain that the only moderate Republicans left are now Democrats.

This centrist orientation, while embraced by Obama, is not his invention but is representative of the main trend of the Democratic party for some decades and was most obviously embodied by former president Bill Clinton.

It's chief feature and fatal flaw is its ideological surrender, with policies to match, to the free-market fundamentalism espoused by the Right. The chief difference between centrist Democrats and the Republicans has been that the former would do more than the latter to mitigate the suffering among the middle class and poor engendered by loosening nation's governmental reins on finance capital and large corporations.

Broken Chains of Title: uh oh

by Wolf10

By way of Naked Capitalism I came across a Scott's Investment Blog article consisting in most part of an e-mails from anonymous financial services industry insiders that contend the fraudulent foreclosure documents scandal may be reasonably expected to cause massive further disruption to our financial system and hopefully rekindle interest in tightening the reins on banks. It is also hoped that it will rekindle the bankers' interest in modifying securitized mortgages. Assuming, that is, they even have the legal authority to do so.

And, as a side benefit, it may make Rick Santelli's head explode because as our insider contends:

Obama, Carter, Chamberlain & Allende

by Wolf10

After Carter was elected I was rather pleased and a more savvy friend of mine said, "Just wait, he's merely a brief respite."

Wherein I relate a sobering thread of comments between myself and another Kossack that reveals my own and perhaps others' source of discouragement with the current administration. And wherein it may appear prudent to support said administration while at the same time criticizing the hell out of it and looking for alternatives.

Wall Street's Crybaby Geniuses

by Wolf10

In case you missed it, This American Life in conjunction with Planet Money yet again produces radio worth listening to in Wall Street: Money Never Weeps.

Ira [Glass] with Planet Money economics correspondent Adam Davidson on why—-even after everything President Obama has done to save Wall Street, actions which have led to record profits and bonuses—-Wall Street seems ungrateful. Adam and producer Jane Feltes head out to a Wall Street bar where they're told by three finance guys that there's no reason to thank the President for saving their jobs.

Fighting Words at Daily Kos

by Wolf10

I posted this a couple of days ago under the title A History of Violence and My Tender Sensibilities. I'm posting it today to support the position taken by buhdydharma and his co-signatories in the diary regarding new posting standards at Daily Kos. Also, I wish to make the point there is nothing wimpish in craving civility and courtesy.

                   ...........................

I have a history of violence. By the time I was five I had witnessed my parents come close to killing each other several times. Before I was thirty I had done time, been maced, billy-clubbed and shot at. I was once held at gun-point for hours while my captors debated whether or not to shoot me. I have hunted dangerous persons and been hunted by them. Also, I was from a blue-collar family and was myself a blue-collar guy for years before I went white-collar and got paid more for doing less.

Wall Street’s destructive plundering of Main Street continues apace, with a recent iteration in the form of fantastically higher health insurance premiums for small business. The average 15% increase in 2010 premiums is approximately twice that of the previous year’s increase.

Public Option a Bridge Too Far?

by Wolf10

I don't know the answer to this question but the MSM would have me believe the answer is in the affirmative. If so, this is quite disheartening and I add it to the list of my disappointments with the Obama administration.

Just got back from an hour or so outside Congressman Pete Stark's town hall meeting in Alameda CA. I was part of a large crowd that couldn't get into the meeting because the hall was full.

Dear Mr. Dimon

by Wolf10

Although I'm a mortgage payer in good standing my bank (WaMu/JP Morgan Chase) is reaching out and trying to destroy me. Please take a look at the letter I just sent to the much admired CEO, putative Democrat, "Jamie" Dimon and please recommend a good lawyer in the SF Bay Area.
