Armageddon, the Apocalypse, End of Days....my butt.
Fri Jul 14, 2006 at 06:19:08 PM PDT
Like, gag me with a spoon. If I read another breathless diary or comment that asks us if indeed Armageddon is upon us (t'aint, it's a PLACE ya'll), or if Bush is in fact hastening the End of Days with his mideast policies, or if global warming is yet another sign of aforementioned Armageddon, et cetera et cetera et cetera, my eyes just might roll down the street.

When I was 15 (circa 1989) and sitting in my high school cafeteria with my pal as we pored over a well-worn Nostradamus book from the library, my blood suddenly ran cold. Right there in front of me was the very year IN PRINT that the End would be nigh. That year would be 1994, and I knew in an instant that it would simply ruin my plans for college. A measly 5 years? Fuck. I was still a virgin, and I didnt even have my driver's license yet. Would 5 years be enough time for me to do all the stuff I thought I wanted to do? Would I ever grow boobs, have a baby, fall in love?
Reid re. Rove: Rearranging Deck Chairs on the Titanic
Wed Apr 19, 2006 at 09:57:44 AM PDT
Yeah, I check RawStory a lot throughout the day even though my relationship with the site is dubious at best. Mostly it serves as a pulpy Drudge-like curiosity. Right now they seem to have their panties in a bunch about Rove's 'demotion', which I'm certain is making a Rove aide somewhere grin maliciously.

Rove is in no way 'demoted'.

I will delete this rule breaking diary in a few minutes, just wanted fellow Massholes to see this.
Vatican may as well just wipe their asses with money.
Wed Mar 22, 2006 at 08:38:27 AM PDT
...because they sure as Hell arent using their considerable fundage productively these days, it seems. So, the Vatican is hosting a conference to put a positive PR spin on the frikkin' CRUSADES. The Crusades. Puh-leeze. As a lapsed Catholic agnostic I am particularly sensitive to all the ways that the Catholic Church seems to be hastening its own demise. From tightening the screws on their celibacy and all-male priest rules, to bankrupting themselves with huge embarrassing payouts in pedophilia scandals, and everything in between.
Oy Vey
Hilarious: Heckuva job, Liddy Dole!
Sat Mar 04, 2006 at 08:17:28 AM PDT
Here's is a great op-ed by Derrick Jackson in the Boston Globe this morning that underscores the incompetance of Liddy Dole and gives me hope that the All-Seeing Eye of the GOP machine isnt actually that effective or accurate. He received a 'frameable certificate' from Dole & the NRSC praising him and his "remarkable support for the Republican Agenda". One small problem...dude is an outspoken Democrat who has never supported the Republican Agenda, let alone the NRSC.
Dear Senator Dole: I must respectfully decline your invitation
The Genographic Project & My Latest Crush
Thu Feb 09, 2006 at 03:48:05 PM PDT
I will admit with a fair amount of shame that I've been down on men lately. By lately, I mean most of my adult life. When thinking about the Bullshit of this World - the wars, the oppression, the violence, our government - it's hard for me not to notice that men are responsible for most of it, perhaps since the dawn of mankind. This observation (no matter how true) does leave me feeling a bit guilty, particularly of late since I gave birth to yet another male creature a few months ago, and it's my reproductive system that bathed him in testosterone enough to grow him some boy-parts. It's my responsibility to raise him up right, after all. Maybe the men responsible for the Bullshit of this World simply had inadequate mothering? Could be.
To better my karma and to pass along a positive message of hope in the face of today's racial and religious tensions, I want to make sure everyone knows about my latest crush, Dr. Spencer Wells, geneticist. A very good man indeed, whose work is laying groundwork for understanding who we are.

Sweden vows to be oil-free in 17 years
Wed Feb 08, 2006 at 12:20:56 PM PDT
...without building more nuclear plants. It gives me a measure of comfort knowing that at least some country's governments attempt to do the right thing, even when ours refuses.
It helps that they already use less oil than other European countries (and us), but there are some good ideas here. You see, back in the 70s during the first oil crisis, they LEARNED from it and WORKED with what they learned. Now, from trial and error, they are ahead of the game.
Hillary Clinton: "Worst administration ever"
Tue Jan 17, 2006 at 07:02:04 AM PDT
Yesterday at a MLK jr event in Harlem Clinton verbally smacked around BushCo, even comparing them to a 'plantation where dissenting voices are squelched'.
While I'm not sure how I feel about pandering analogies aimed toward a specific group, I am pleased to hear this kind of rhetoric in general. IF Clinton runs for president (if, if), she ought to keep this kind of talk up. While she is not my first choice Dem for the job, displaying this fierce attitude will ease my task of pulling the lever for her should she be the nom.
Lemme know if this has been diaried already.

Are they setting up McCain for a fall?
Tue Nov 08, 2005 at 02:52:53 PM PDT
Okay...
We've all seen the news by now, Trent Lott has admitted publicly that he believes it was a GOP Senator who spilled the beans to the Post regarding the secret prisons, and feels that this could end up as an investigation into his own party, etc etc etc (see front page story).
Liberal Babies & Poopy Diapers
Wed Sep 28, 2005 at 06:39:49 PM PDT
Speaking of Tom Delay, I am trying to figure out what to do about the future poop that will most surely spew forth from my son once he is born. I have 2 months or so to decide exactly how to diaper this child, and I would appreciate some feedbcak from those who may be in the know about such matters. A few things seem obvious to me:
1. Disposable diapers seem to be a colossal waste of several rescources. From the petroleum used to make them to the landfills that store them...forever...they just seem like a BAD idea.

Is Cheney sick or what??? (Americablog)
Fri Sep 02, 2005 at 10:02:25 AM PDT
At Americablog, John has a hunch that Cheney could be ill...perhaps seriously. It got me to thinking. WHen WAS the last time that anyone has seen him? It stands to reason he would at least ceremoniously leave his vacation early to appear concerned. Also, the lack of Cheney's puppetmastering could explain Bush' EXTREME mishandling of EVERYTHING, most especially the very words spewing forth from his mouth.
Heres the Americablog link

Rep. Chuck Rangel has a similar hunch

What about the CHILDREN?????
Thu Aug 11, 2005 at 10:37:49 AM PDT
I have lately been fascinated by the environmental disconnect to which many conservatives subscribe. For many, it seems like a pathological need to cling to fantasies that we (humans) are somehow not responsible for the damaging conditions our lifestyles can cause...it's classic avoidance. Making environmentalism politically 'partisan' is simply another way to absolve personal responsibility, too.
If tree-huggin' and earth lovin' is a Liberal trait to be avoided at all costs by a red-blooded conservatives, how can they reconcile news like this with their signature platforms of 'Family Values' and 'Pro-Life'?
Female Circumcision in Kurdish Iraq
Tue Aug 09, 2005 at 04:26:11 PM PDT
Okay....where the Hell else is this being practiced regularly on this godforsaken planet?
I knew it to be a phenomenon in parts of Africa, but did not realize it was 'prevalent' in the Middle East as well. According to the Science Christian Monitor, the suspicion that this mutilation was going on has been confirmed for the first time.

Troop Withdrawals in 06...its the POLLS, stupid.
Wed Jul 27, 2005 at 06:59:12 AM PDT
Well, well, well. On the heels of a leaked British memo about drastically withdrawing troop numbers (see my diary with link from July 9th), we learn that General Casey and Rumsfeld are now publicly announcing that an effort is being made to reduce troops within a year. Here's a link to my 'leaky memo' diary:

Tue Jul 19, 2005 at 05:45:12 PM PDT
I just found this link on RawStory and find it personally unsatisfying. But what can I expect, really? Reid isnt going to be screaming "FUCK!" at his monitor like I am.
Leaked Memo: Iraq troop withdrawal by half in 2006

I just finished reading this Reuters article by way of Rawstory:

According to this memo supposedly leaked from Britain's Defense Ministry , the UK and US are planning on withdrawing about half of the troops from Iraq starting in early to mid 2006.
