Why an Iowa Vote for Edwards would be the “Vote Heard Around the World” and Musings

Thu Sep 20, 2007 at 08:01:03 AM PDT

Living near Denver, Colorado, I sometimes feel left out of the excitement in the early caucus and primary states.  The excitement about the Harkin Steak Fry got the better of me, and I set out on a road trip.  I was lucky to have wonderful weather, something that I can’t expect for later trips.  The weekend was perfect for a steak fry.

In his speech at his Steak Fry, Sen. Harkin asked Iowans to turn out to caucus and "make this the vote heard around the world. The Iowa caucuses have been important for as long as I can remember, but no past caucuses have been as important as this one.  If Iowans make John Edwards the winner at their caucuses, they will have an impact beyond the usual fine tuning of our electoral horse race.  They will, I believe, be rescuing our democratic process from mutating into an oligarchy merely camouflaged with the trappings of democracy.  They will also be setting the course for historic changes that will affect generations to come.
