For the Republicans and their corporate donors, the Iraq War will end the minute it becomes unprofitable for them to continue it. And not one minute sooner. Period.
So here is your BINDING resolution. Short. Sweet. To the point.
And it completely sidesteps the Republican's B.S. of "cutting off funding meaning that you don't support the troops". As a matter of fact, it doesn't cut off funding at all, it just shifts it.
There are 11 House races that are still technically undecided. Below the fold you will find a list with a quick rundown of the status of these races.
Let's vigilant in watching these races to make sure that all the votes are counted fairly. I know many of us are happy that we already have a majority in the House regardless of the outcome of these races. But every race is important. Every race we can win adds to our majority. And regardless of our majority, some people will have to live with being represented by Republicans in these districts. Let's keep that number as small as we can.
President Bush, in a news conference this morning, made the following statement.
I've reassured the House and Senate leaders that I intend to work with the new Congress in a bipartisan way to address issues confronting this country. I invited them to come to the White House in the coming days to discuss the important work remaining this year and to begin conversations about the agenda for next year.
If you are like me, one of the hardest things to research are the judicial elections. If you live in California, here is some info that may help you make these decisions.
Below the fold I have a list of all the Supreme Court and Appeals Court judges, along with the California Governor who appointed them. Keep in mind that Brown and Davis were Democratic Governors. Deukmejian, Wilson and, of course, Schwarzenneger were Republicans.
This will be the final post of the list of all House, Senate, and Governor races with links to thier web pages.
This is a big weekend. We need to do everything we can to get Democrats to the polls. Please click on one of the races on the list to volunteer for a Democratic campaign's GOTV effort.
We can't control the MSM news. We can't control what the Republicans do. But we CAN have an effect on this election.
We're coming down to the wire! As election day nears, getting out the vote is more important than ever. Please consider taking a couple of hours of your time this week or weekend to help a Democratic candidate in your area.
With only one week left, it may be more efficient to contact the Democratic campaigns directly to volunteer. With that in mind, I am again posting the list of all Senate, House, and Governors races, with links to thier campaign websites.
I will post the list a final time this Friday so people can use it to volunteer for campaign work in the final 72 hours.
You folks never cease to amaze me! Yesterday we raised $320,000 in a last minute push to help get Democrats elected all over the country. It is simply one of the most FANTASTIC things I have ever seen happen on this site. We should all be extremely proud of ourselves. To quote Howard Dean "YEAAAAARRRRRGHHHH!!!"
As Kos said last night, it's now time to shift our focus. While money donations will still be appreciated by the campaigns, it is more important right now to concentrate on the ground game. The 50-State Strategy has worked, the money has been raised, it's now 50-State Get Out The Vote time!
With only a little over a week left, it may be more effective to contact the campaigns directly to see what you can do to help. With that in mind, below the fold you will find a list of all 435 House races, 33 Senate races, and 22 Governors races, with links to each of thier websites. Please contact them and help them Win this November 7th.
Because time is short, with less than two weeks before the elections, I'll spare you my usual commentary and get straight to the list.
Below the fold you will find a list of all 435 House, 33 Senate, and 22 Governors races. Each has a link to the Democratic candidate's website.
Please, please, please (OK, pretty please) consider visiting thier websites and volunteering to do whatever you can to help Democrats win this Nov 7th.
It's ground war time Kossacks! The battles are going well, but the war is far from over. We face a very determined enemy who will do anything to hold onto power. Now is not the time to let up. We need EVERY. SINGLE. VOTE.
Below the fold you will find the BIG LIST OF CANDIDATES for all House, Senate, and Governor races, with links to volunteer and/or donate.
Make no mistake, this election isn't about Iraq, Foley, corruption, habeaus corpus, etc. etc. etc.
Those are the latest numbers of dead and wounded US military personnel in Iraq according to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count website. Stop a minute and let that sink in. 2782 dead. 20687 wounded. Consider the pain and devastation inflicted on these soldiers and thier families.
Now I'm going to make a request from each and every one of you to do your part to help stop this tragedy.
1 penny per US soldier killed = $27.82
1 second per US soldier wounded = 5 hours 45 minutes
Please consider donating that amount of money, or time (or both) to help get Democrats elected. The number of competitive races for Democrats keeps growing, your time and money are needed now more than ever.
A penny per soldier killed. A second per soldier wounded. Is that too much to ask?
A full list of candidates for the US House and Senate, with links to thier websites, is below the fold.
I am new here and this is my first diary, so I hope I'm doing everything right. I'm not exactly a whiz with computers. My son tries to teach me, bless his heart, but I still find it a little overwhelming. So forgive me if I make a few mistakes.
I suppose I should introduce myself. I am what some of you might call a "sweet little old lady". To that I would say that sometimes looks can be deceiving, I've been known to have a mischievous side. I'm 68 years old with 6 wonderful children and 14 precious grandchildren, two of which are now serving in the Iraq war. I have 3 beautiful cats, Bailey, Swan, and Jericho. Sometimes they are a handful, but they keep me company in between visits from my kids. I also have a big, goofy dog named Oscar who, for reasons known only to him, has an affinity for licking peoples shoes. Not too bright, but loveable all the same.
Make no mistake, this election is about ALL Republicans.
Don't be fooled by Denny Hastert's carefully calculated mea culpa. He holed up in his house for a full day before making his public statement yesterday. Let's face it, he wasn't getting a haircut or a massage. He was on the phone to Republicans across the country making sure he had the support to stay on as Speaker of the House. And apparently, they DID support him, because he sure didn't resign. This is no longer about Foley, Hastert, Shimkus, Reynolds, Alexander, and Boehner. This is now about ALL Republicans.
(More info, Howard Dean, and the BIG list of candidates below the fold.)
In the early 1980s two House Members, Gerry Studds (D-MA) and Daniel Crane (R-IL), were accused of sexual misconduct with house pages. House Speaker Tip O'Neill (D-MA) fully investigated the scandal, appointing special counsel Joseph Califano Jr. to investigate the matter for the House Ethics Committee.
In all, the special counsel's Office has conducted some 700 interviews, taken more than 125 depositions covering more than 6,000 transcript pages, tried to contact every House page who served since September 1979 and dozens who served earlier, traveled almost 100,000 miles to more than 50 cities, and devoted more than 50,000 hours of staff time to this investigation.
Below the fold you will find the list of Senators and Representatives who you really should be pissed at for the Torture Bill.
Keep this in mind. If your neighbor's mean-ass pit bull comes into your yard and bites you, you don't get mad at your own dog for not protecting you. First order of business is to get rid of the god-damned pit bull. After all, he's the one that's really responsible for your wounds. Once that's done, then you can worry about giving your own sorry pooch some watch-dog training.
