Tie this into the Halliburton invesitigation, tax breaks for the rich and you have a real mess for BushCo and our soldiers families should be outraged.
These son of a bitches are making our soldiers sitting ducks, allowed the inrugents to get the weapons to blow them up and are leaving them unprotected.
We can not count on the media to set the story straight. We have to get the truth out to our friends and neighbors ourselves.
We are counting on YOU to set the record straight. Please forward this e-mail and the attached fact sheet to family and friends, call your local network, call talk radio, write letters to the editor, and post facts on blogs.
The entire email is in the extended area.
MSNBC is reporting that Chief Justice Rehnquist has been admitted to the hospital. While this is a horrible thing for him, I do believe this could put this issue front and center in people's minds. It's sad, but the timing is also pretty good for Kerry. Don't mean to sound callous, just speaking to realities.
Update: He's in Bethesda and has been treated for Thyroid cancer for a while. He is in the ICU and being treated for cancer of the trachia there now.
Update:MSNBC: Court officials saying he will be back on the bench in November. He's 80 and has had for awhile.
Nice to see how fast we are as progressives. Really kick ass. They don't even have it on their site, yet.
If we don't win this thing it isn't because we lacked an aggressive posture. We really have it together for a party that was all over the place less than a year ago.
""Nipr.mil is not a single domain a but a hush-hush web proxy that acts as a gateway for hundreds of U.S. military domains in order to hide their identities. It was established by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in response to a memorandum (CM-5 1099, INFOCOM) issued in March 1999 by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, calling for "actions to be taken to increase the readiness posture for Information Warfare." "Uncontrolled Internet connections," the document says, "pose a significant and unacceptable threat to all Department of Defense information systems and operations." "
Now, wouldn't they already have this info? Why would they be looking at other sites for the info?
Well, in the end, probably nothing, but in the climate we live in, I can not help but get a little nervous when I see them there.
I have seen 527 ads, that I think are powerful on both sides of the fence, but nada from the R's that are worth a damn. While I think Kerry and company have done an excellent job during this campaign, I also believe that part of the reason the mass attacks have not worked well, is that the ads just suck.
I just saw the ad. It does nothing to stir emotions and nothing to stir up any kind of fear. The Wolves at the end are beautiful. Now I do own two Siberian Huskies, so I might have a bias, but the music, the scenery, and more do not make me feel like the ad has any power. It actually is kind of inspiring in terms of I want to load up the tent and go camping.
Did a search for Badnarik and did not see this post, so my apologies if a duplicate.
OK, it's a slam dunk according to the polls, pundits, and our own critiques. I was dead wrong by the way, when I said after first debate, that Kerry lost, because he didn't play the repetition game. I underestimated the voters this year. All past political rules are out the window.
So, they've fundamentally lost this election. They are a cornered animal. What will they resort too? We know they are capable of anything.
What can we do to stop them? We must be prepared.
Rigged voting machines.
Stifling turnout - already begun.
Terrorist warnings/threats/attacks.
Military action.
Marshall law.
Nasty negative attacks.
Falsified attacks.
Deleted voters.
They can't "afford" to lose. They are on a mission(a crusade). What do you think they will do? What can we do? Can we make our victory overwhelming enough so that nothing will work? Now we need to be worried. Now Democracy will be threatened. Time to get geared up for worst case scenarios.
Am I being paranoid?
Ok, I am afraid to get too excited, but things really seem to be falling apart for George with true conservatives. By true conservatives, I mean honestly fiscally conservative, individual liberties conservative, and sensible national security conservative conservatives. We're talking Goldwater conservatives(did you ever think there would come a day when you would long for a Goldwater conservative?).
Prominent conservatives are outraged and they are leaving George Bush behind. I have yet to see decent polling numbers on this, but the antecdotal evidence and public criticism by conservatives is mounting. This could be a very serious problem for BushCo and I do not see a way for them to get them back. In the end, these are patriotic Americans that are just as scared as progressives are about the direction these folks are taking. They are the forgotten Rs that the neo-cons would like to push out of their party, but need desperately to win. Ultimately, this could be the demographic that hands the election to Kerry.
Bob Barr(R) is pissed and it sounds like he is ready to jump ship:
When Bush became president Jan. 20, 2001, he inherited an enviable fiscal situation. Congress, then controlled by his own party, had -- through discipline and tough votes -- whittled down decades of deficit spending under presidents of both parties, so that annual deficits of hundreds of billions of dollars had been transformed to a series of real and projected surpluses. The heavy lifting had been done. All Bush had to do was resist the urge to spend, and he had to exert some pressure on Congress to resist its natural impulses to do the same. Had he done that, he might have gone down in history as the most fiscally conservative president in modern times.
Instead, what we got were record levels of new spending, including nearly double-digit increases in nondefense discretionary spending. We now have deficits exceeding those that the first Republican-controlled Congress in 40 years faced when it convened in January 1995.
The oft-repeated mantra that "the terrorists made us spend more" rings hollow, especially to those who actually understand that increases in nondefense discretionary spending are not the inevitable result of fighting terrorists. It also irritates many conservatives, whether or not they support the war in Iraq, that so much of defense spending is being poured into the black hole of Iraq's internal security, while the security of our own borders goes wanting.
You can also see this in the postings on progressive blogs of parents, neighbors and other conservative family members that are torn over their vote. Some seem to be willing to go to Kerry, but others will not show up or vote for a third party candidate.
From a Conversation With My Republican Father:
That's just one example of many posted to that diary entry and we are all seeing it across the board.
So, how best to leverage this anger and dissatisfaction. Well, while it may pay off to try to convince conservatives to vote for Kerry, I would not put excessive amounts of time into it. I would give it an initial shot and then move on to better alternatives.
Congressman Pete Sessions who lambasted Janet Jackson for her peek-a-boo during the Super Bowl has been discovered to have streaked as a college freshman and exposed himself to children during that episode. His Democratic rival released the photos from newspapers to the press.
Sweet. Ain't politics fun.
Summarized: "Report concludes that he wanted and was waiting for the world to turn the other way".
Hmmm... seems like the world was not turning the other way and the UN was working and Saddam could not reconstitute.
Used the "could have given the technology to terrorists" line.
Also made sure to bring up corruption in food for oil.
"President and members of congress intelligence must be better. We will improve our intelligence, especially about weapons of mass destruction. "
Bottom line is "we did the right thing" is the message, but he was somewhat weak on standing up to the report. Would have expected a stronger response.
Now Kerry team saying they will definitely go after Bush on this tomorrow in debate.
My most recent comment on my diary on this topic:
It's Official They Are Definitely in Tax and Spend mode. Tax and spend was the entire message of John Hancock former Exec. Dir of Missouri Repugnant party just now on MSNBC. They are in full blown Tax and Spend mode. Kerry must address, spokepeople must inocculate. Damn, we have to jump on this.
I have heard the spin and happy we have an answer, but I don't think our speaking points have gone out. These appearances adn commercials are disturbing.
I think this should be a major Kos topic, so we can spin locally.
Do they want a coup in the ranks of the military?
Do they not see how ridiculous it is to appoint a man with no military experience and tied to corrupt corporations to this position, when a fully qualified military man sits ready to serve?
The nomination of Harvey for the Army's top position stung many serving officers who want to see Acting Secretary Les Brownlee fill the position. Brownlee, who has been acting secretary for 16 months, is a highly decorated Vietnam veteran with years of experience working in defense issues on Capitol Hill and is widely respected by members and staff of both parties.
Do they not see that this says once again, we do not care about those that are serving, because we have no experience serving?
Do they not see that this points once again to the differences between Kerry serving in a danger zone and Bush avoiding at all costs?
Are they just this stupid and arrogant or are they just delusional and insane?
Sigh... It defies any logic.
Watching MSNBC in Miami, FL., I just saw a tax and spend ad attacking Kerry and the Liberals in Congress.
So, here we go again. Is this last minute desperation and trying anything they can to win back what they are losing or do they see something in the polls?
My suspicion is the former, but cannot be sure.
I realize this may have been in other speeches, but the timing of this with a new ad, tells me it's a new strategy.
Flip-Flop has failed miserably and maybe they decided that in the last 20 plus days, that Kerry could not innoculate himself against it.
The ad says something like "Kerry taxes like clockwork" and "enough for 20 times a week in the last 20 years".
Maybe Rove planned to pull this out all along as a last minute shot and let Kerry think they were only going with flip flop.
My hope is that our team is ready to respond.
What do you think? In Florida, the tactic was very effective in Jeb's last run and it worked. McBride had no answer, but had no record of taxing either.
None of the emails I've received so far is able to put a very attractive face on what took place. Here are couple.
From one reader:
The only defense I've seen of the handling of Tora Bora was offered by Tommy Franks when he was interviewed just after the First Debate.
His excuse was, in a nutshell, that intelligence at the time indicated a lot of places where Bin Laden might have been, and surrounding Tora Bora might have meant missing him somewhere else (he mentioned a lake near Kandahar as an alternate report of the time).
This falls short in at least two ways. One, we know that lots of Al Qaeda were at Tora Bora, so even if OBL wasn't it still didn't behoove us to let the hundreds of other AQ get away. Two, even if it was uncertain that OBL was there, it would have been worth trying, wouldn't it? If there were a handful of possible locations, trying all of them makes for a better excuse than trying none of them.
From another:
Flip through Robin Moore's 'The Hunt For Bin Laden' until you find the portion on Tota Bora/bin Laden and you'll see why Bush and Cheney let it pass w/o comment.
As I recall, it was the higher-ups at CENTCOM in Tampa that f'ed the deal up when they asked the SF[Special Forces] guys in the field to 'wait' before whacking OBL so they (who'd been largely cut out of the mission in lieu of an SF-centric expedition by Rummy) could get some folks over there to 'share in the credit glow' of such a major WOT coup.
Badmouthing that crowd [Centcom in Florida] may explain things, but does Bush no good.
Why does neither Bush nor Cheney attempt to refute the charge that we let OBL slip through our fingers? Because, apparently, we did just that.
The number one rule of politics - every message must be tailored to a third grade education. Bush did this, Kerry did not. Bush had a consistent message - consistency - mixed messages bad. Kerry had none.
How do you not prepare your candidate for this? This has been the Bush message for weeks. Please. I am so dissapointed. He should have said, if you want to talk about mixed messages, here are the mixed messages you gave us on Iraw, here is the mixed message on North Korea. Take it, turn it, make it yours and make it useless.
Maybe we will get lucky in the spin in the papers tomorrow, but I doubt it.
Bush stayed on message non-stop. Repetition. Third grade education. Perfection.
People do not care about whether China is involved. They don't care about any of the other subtleties. They care about a simple message they can digest.
I am sure I will get slammed on this, but this is the reality of our country. I do not think this means we lose the election. I still think we will win if we mobilize our voters and overcome theft in Florida and elsewhere, but we did not win this debate.
A few choice quotes.
There was just one problem: Kerry never said what Bush said he did."
George Lakoff, professor of linguistics at the University of California at Berkeley who has written extensively about political addresses, said Bush and his advisers have been masterful at using partial facts and their spin on Kerry's statements to create the perceptions they want.
"I've never seen anything like this," Lakoff said. "This is a particular trick, and these guys have mastered it. Each piece is misleading, and together they create a way of understanding Kerry and Bush that is useful to them."
"The guy I'm running against, Senator Kerry, wants to nationalize health care," Bush said Monday night in New York. "He wants the bureaucrats to make the decisions for the doctors and patients."
Though Kerry does want to expand health coverage through the federal Medicaid program, his health plan does not call for a nationalization of the health care system. Kerry's health plan is based primarily on tax credits and incentives, and does not include any new federal mandates that would move toward the socialized medicine that a plan to "nationalize health care" suggests.
For those of you that don't think we should lower ourselves to play dirty with these guys, please keep in mind that the average campaign targets it's message to a 3rd grade education. These quotes will stick and will keep perceptions in people's minds about Kerry, especially when broadcast through local outlets. It is time for us to respond, distort, attack, and answer. We will lose if we continue to play nice.
We are battling a group that has no scruples, could care less about asking the President of the United States to lie on a daily basis and will do whatever it takes to win, at all costs.
