I'm currently living and working in southwest CT. I've volunteered or staffed on several campaigns in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and a few other states, most recently in IL-14 for Bill Foster.

This is something new series of pretty pictures showing what this year's blue wave looks like. So far, I've done several individual states, but here is the entire New England region. (I finally figured out how to merge shapefiles.)

Here's how things stood before the 2006 election.

The green represents Bernie Sanders (who caucused with Democrats), and there are five red districts.

This is the fifth in a series of pretty pictures showing what this year's blue wave looks like. So far, I've done Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, and New Hampshire.

Vermont only has one district, so a cartogram by district isn't very interesting. It's also debatable whether Vermont had a blue wave. Nevertheless, I don't want to skip Vermont, so I'm posting it on a travel day.

Here's how things stood before the 2006 election.

The green represents independent congressman (and senator-elect) Bernie Sanders, who caucused with Democrats.

Blue wave in New York (with cartograms)

Sun Nov 19, 2006 at 10:17:42 AM PDT

This is the second in a series of pretty pictures showing what this year's blue wave looks like. I started with Pennsylvania. New York is next, because the expansion of New York City is so spectacular. Cross-posted at MyDD. For more maps, I recommend ManfromMiddletown's diary on New York.

These cartograms shows New York with each congressional district having equal size. This gives a better view of the equal importance of heavily Democratic urban districts and slightly Republican rural districts.

Here's how things stood before the 2006 election.

Wow! Look at how blue New York already was once you have a clear view of the twelve Democratic districts of New York City! But it gets better...

Blue wave in Pennsylvania (with cartograms)

Sat Nov 18, 2006 at 09:24:42 AM PDT

This is the first in a series of pretty pictures showing what this year's blue wave looks like. I'm starting with Pennsylvania because I live here (in the 2nd district) and volunteered a fair amount for Patrick Murphy in the 8th District. A cartogram is a map in which the shapes of regions are skewed so that there areas match some statistic. For example, Wikipedia's article on the 2004 election shows the Bush/Kerry vote by county with each county's area in proportion to its population.

These cartograms show Pennsylvania with each congressional district having equal size. This gives a better view of the equal importance of heavily Democratic urban districts and heavily Republican rural districts.

Here's how things stood before the 2006 election.
