Tony Snow Broke My Television Set

Tue Jul 03, 2007 at 04:08:22 PM PDT

I listened to Tony Snow be a horse's ass for the last time at today's White House press briefing.  After the following exchange took place, I threw my copy of Marilyn Quayle's "Embrace the Serpent" through my television screen:

White House Hates Native Americans (or at least thinks they vote for Democrats)

Thu May 31, 2007 at 09:07:57 AM PDT

Tom Hamburger of the LA Times writes of YET ANOTHER White House attempt to suppress the voting rights of of a group perceived to vote for Democrats.

For more than 15 years, clean-cut, square-jawed Tom Heffelfinger was the embodiment of a tough Republican prosecutor. Named U.S. attorney for Minnesota in 1991, he won a series of high-profile white-collar crime and gun and explosives cases. By the time Heffelfinger resigned last year, his office had collected a string of awards and commendations from the Justice Department.

So it came as a surprise — and something of a mystery — when he turned up on a list of U.S. attorneys who had been targeted for firing.

Part of the reason, government documents and other evidence suggest, is that he tried to protect voting rights for Native Americans.

"must jawbone OPEC members to lower prices"

Mon May 21, 2007 at 08:31:42 AM PDT

As I sit here and watch yet another CNN report on high gas prices, I thought back to those giddy days BTWPETO (Before the WORST President Ever Took Office) and was trying to remember what exactly he  said about high gas prices during his unsuccessful run for office.  I'm sure this has been written about many times on this site but sometimes I need a refresher so a quick search of Google brought back this quote:

In December 1999, in the first Republican primary debate, Mr. Bush said President Clinton “must jawbone OPEC members to lower prices.”

Riiiight.

If it's Sunday, It Must Be a Day to Call for Alberto Gonzales's Resignation

Sun May 20, 2007 at 09:23:46 AM PDT

Just some excerpts from Newspaper editorials from the last few days... BTW, if someone can find one that supports Gonzales (written since Comey testified) please let me know.

Hagel Calls for Gonzales's Resignation

Wed May 16, 2007 at 09:40:10 AM PDT

Chuck Hagel is the latest Republican to call for Alberto Gonzales's resignation, saying he has "lost the moral authority" to lead the Justice Department.  Apparently, news that Gonzales made a late-night hospital visit to John Ashcroft was the tipping point.

BREAKING: New War Czar

Tue May 15, 2007 at 02:05:59 PM PDT

From ABC:

After a frustrating search for a new "war czar" to oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, ABC News has learned that President Bush has chosen the Pentagon's director of operations, Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, for the role.

Blood Money -- Army Referral Bonuses

Sun May 13, 2007 at 07:51:55 AM PDT

It's fairly common knowledge that the army is having a tough time these days meeting it's recruiting goals.  When your underlying recruiting slogan is, "Come be a low-paid RPG target" you don't find people rushing to sign-up.

Hillary Clinton hires opposition researcher to run CA campaign

Sat May 12, 2007 at 11:21:23 AM PDT

Carla Marinucci writes in today's San Francisco Chronicle that Hillary Clinton has hired  Averell "Ace" Smith to run her campaign in California.

Another Regent University grad involved in Attorney Purge

Thu May 10, 2007 at 04:03:34 PM PDT

Apparently there's a new name (at least to me) related to the US Attorney probe -- John Nowacki.

From the Chicago Tribune:

John Nowacki -- who had limited courtroom experience when he was promoted into a senior position overseeing federal prosecutors -- has quietly played a key role in the campaign to contain the fallout. That campaign, as much as the dismissals themselves, has crippled the department and threatens to topple Gonzales.

Silly me, I thought Alberto Gonzales would have played the key role, but after listening to his testimony today, I don't think he's played a key role in anything...

George W. Bush vs. Hollywood

Tue May 08, 2007 at 07:41:17 AM PDT

As I was watching the movie “Dave” the other day, I wondered why we couldn’t have a president as cool as president Dave Kovic as played by Kevin Kline.  Then I realized, if you stack George W. Bush up against movie presidents, he comes out looking pretty poor.  Here’s a rundown of some of my favorite movie presidents and how George W. Bush measures up.

Monica Goodling -- Loyalty Enforcer

James Risser wrote about Monica Goodling's breakdown in David Margolis' office -- sobbing for 45 minutes relating her fears she would have to quit.

"Our MySpace Experiment" -- a Big Lie?

Sun May 06, 2007 at 01:05:50 PM PDT

Joe Anthony yesterday posted a response to Joe Rospars on his MySpace Blog.

The Commander Guy

Fri May 04, 2007 at 04:48:41 PM PDT

At today's White House Press Briefing, Dana Perino had this to say about the president claiming to be "the commander guy":

Still waiting on Joe Rospars

Thu May 03, 2007 at 12:36:10 PM PDT

The Joe Rospars diary entry, "Our MySpace Experiment" is up to 988 comments at this writing.  The National Journal's "The Blogometer" has a piece about it and apparently what still hasn't been clearly answered about the whole Joe Anthony/Barack Obama MySpace dust up is whether Barack Obama's campaign asked Joe Anthony to name his price or whether Joe Anthony just demanded the money unsolicited.

Jeff Miller's Mom

Wed May 02, 2007 at 12:16:38 PM PDT

I read this essay yesterday by Elaine Holstein -- Jeff Miller's mother -- published May 4, 2000.  I thought of Cindy Sheehan as I read it, and thought of the many thousands of parents who have lost their children much too soon because of the "policies" of our current president.
