Whom do you agree with? Olbermann or Greenwald (Poll)
Sat Jun 28, 2008 at 04:21:43 PM PDT
This is one heavyweight flame war going on between the two on the ‘Internets’.
I’m a big K. O. fan, but I think he’s got it wrong regarding Obama’s change on the FISA bill, and what seems to be a fixation on Keith's part that Obama must have some secret plan to prosecute the telecoms when he becomes president.
I think Glenn has correctly defined the issues around Obama’s flip-flop, err change in position. From his 6-21-08 essay:
The excuse that Obama's support for this bill is politically shrewd is -- even if accurate -- neither a defense of what he did nor a reason to refrain from loudly criticizing him for it. Actually, it's the opposite. It's precisely because Obama is calculating that he can -- without real consequence -- trample upon the political values of those who believe in the Constitution and the rule of law that it's necessary to do what one can to change that calculus. Telling Obama that you'll cheer for him no matter what he does, that you'll vest in him Blind Faith that anything he does is done with the purest of motives, ensures that he will continue to ignore you and your political interests.

Vote Nancy and Steny Out (with poll)
Sun Jun 22, 2008 at 10:03:55 AM PDT
That would be a simple way to demonstrate to the ‘Democratic’ Congresscritters who voted for the FISA ‘compromise’ that they need to represent the people in their districts and not the interests of the Bush Junta and corporations.
Nancy and Steny are in safe Democratic seats. In a year when the Democrats are likely to grow their majority in the House voting these two ‘leaders’ out has benefits beyond sending a message.
First there would be new leadership in the House. I couldn’t expect it to be much worse than these two. With the shock of their defeats, House Democrats would hopefully vote in a more progressive leadership.
Fox News released a poll on Friday. More Republicans (23%) approve of the job this Democratic Congress is doing than Democrats (18%).
On FISA – What’s taking you so long Sen. Obama (with poll)

Greenwald said all that needed to be said 9 hours ago.

Where’s the leader of the Democratic Party? Still ‘reviewing as we speak’ – which was posted 4 hours ago.
Let Glennzilla say all that needs to be said Senator:
OK Senator Obama time to be Presidential

Lead the fight to block the FISA bill that gives immunity to the telcos.
The source this is coming down is Glenn Greenwald this morning:
Although, as I indicated yesterday, public reports about the bill's telecom immunity provisions were unclear, I've now been able to confirm definitively that the "compromise" that Democrats have agreed to does contain guaranteed immunity for the telecoms. The bill provides that the federal courts are required to dismiss the suits and immunize the telecoms as long as conditions are met that everyone already knows will be fulfilled. Put another way, the bill simply provides that the federal courts must dismiss all lawsuits against telecoms for their illegal spying as long as telecoms can demonstrate "A, B, and C" -- where "A, B and C" are already known in advance to be true and easily proven. The Democrat-supported bill is nothing more than a pre-ordained, mandated script provided to the courts to compel them to dismiss the telecom lawsuits.

WAR WITH IRAN – SOON!
Sun May 11, 2008 at 10:53:01 AM PDT
That’s the conclusion of ex-CIA officer Philip Giraldi posted on May 9th.
War With Iran Might Be Closer Than You Think
There is considerable speculation and buzz in Washington today suggesting that the National Security Council has agreed in principle to proceed with plans to attack an Iranian al-Qods-run camp that is believed to be training Iraqi militants.
The proverbial surgical strikes as opposed to the good old ‘shock and awe!’
And how many NSC ‘senior’ members were opposed to this? - One according to Giraldi. Just one!
What is The Obliterator gonna say when W attacks Iran?
Sun May 04, 2008 at 07:44:42 PM PDT
Hillary ‘The Obliterator’ has got a problem if Bush attacks Iran while she’s still trying to win the nomination by hook or crook.
Based on her cheerleading for vaporizing tens of millions of innocent people in Iran in the event of an Iranian nuking of Israel, I’d suspect she’d be hard pressed not to support the last warmongering paroxysm of the Bush/Cheney junta. Why shoot, these NeoCONS are only talking about surgical strikes – surely no BFD for ‘The Obliterator’:
From the Sunday Times:

Guess what it’s found? What could it mean?
Secret Bush "Finding" Widens War on Iran
By ANDREW COCKBURN
Six weeks ago, President Bush signed a secret finding authorizing a covert offensive against the Iranian regime that, according to those familiar with its contents, "unprecedented in its scope."
Unprecedented in its scope – the lust for war is not unprecedented for that dolt in the White House or his NeoCON warmongering handlers.
Cha Cha Cha Cha Changes

Bowie's classic to the 'it' word of this campaign.

Not much of a diary, but this is just too good not to notice.
When the last time change is uttered this year I just hope 'We Don't Get Fooled Again.'

Shelby Steele on Obama on Bill Moyers
Fri Jan 11, 2008 at 08:53:30 PM PDT
Steele really nails the Obama phenomenon. Obamamanicas (and all of us) should listen and learn. And before you click your tongues Obamamanicas Steele (and yes he is a Republican) is had a great discussion on Moyers.
This is one of the more interesting interviews Moyers has had this year.

Obama is the equivalent of Perrier
Sun Jan 06, 2008 at 11:19:38 AM PDT
Yep I’m talking the bottled water (bad tasting at that IMO).
Some Kossacks may recall my MBA has a concentration in marketing. One of the best compliments I’ve ever received was from a professor who said he wouldn’t call on me in his marketing class because I had a tendency to warp up in a minute and a half answer the core of his hour and twenty minute lecture.
It was in his class I read the case study about Perrier, and how the marketer that developed the brand took its sales from $600,000 to $1,000,000,000 – in one year.
How?
Harry Reid Poll!
Sat Dec 15, 2007 at 10:03:50 AM PDT
Simple enough - Do you approve or disapprove of Harry Reid introducing the FISA bill with IMMUNITY from prosecution for the telco companies?
I think it proves he’s a shameless, corrupt hack – Harry I thought better of you once. Don’t let my opinion ‘taint’ your vote ;-)
This is more proof that John Edwards is right – ‘The system is corrupt.’
This is maybe a bit too personal but
Sat Dec 08, 2007 at 09:25:29 PM PDT
This is my ‘the day the music died’ story.
I’m writing this after glancing at the clock and realizing 11:39 p.m. Eastern was about the time I flipped on the TV 27 years ago and there was Geraldo Rivera with tears in his eyes saying, "I can’t believe it! I can’t believe John Lennon is dead!"
What a bad Karma moment that capped a night that had, in a strange way, eerily foretold what was going to happen to John Lennon.
The Latest Lou Dobbs Poll
Mon Dec 03, 2007 at 04:57:04 PM PDT
By that I mean I’ve run this poll a couple of times before going back to April 2006. Given the Lou Dobbs Race Baiter diary below, I think it’s time to run the same poll for the third time.
Maybe it will be different this time, but if the previous trends holds, then the Dobbs haters might be surprised how many - perhaps a majority - of Kossacks really feel about Lou. Some hate his guts and some think he's right on in what he's talking about.
I'm in the mostly agree with him camp. He's right on about outsourcing, government and corporations doing nothing to help the middle class, 'Commie China', and the explosive political issue of illegal immigration.
More south of the border :-)

Atlanta has a 3 month water supply!

Now this is what Global Warming is all about. Let’s GO to the Atlanta Journal and Constitution headline:
METRO ATLANTA'S NEED FOR WATER: THREE MONTHS FROM A MUDHOLE
Three million + people out of water in three months! I’m not a bit religious, but this is biblical shit:
Time for a New Symbol for the Democratic Party (with poll)
Thu Sep 06, 2007 at 04:17:11 PM PDT
The good old Donkey just doesn’t cut it as the symbol for the Democrats anymore. The donkey kicks hard. With a few exceptions, the leaders of this party do not.
So it's time for a new symbol for the party. What would you select?
Lemmings - as they gladly follow Mad King George and the Republicans over a cliff.
The dodo bird - stupidly walks around and let the Republicans club you into extinction.
The three monkeys - See no Republican evil, Hear no Republican evil, and Speak of No Republican Evil.
Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road – Nice picture of some squished vermin that’s been rolled over scores of times.

Keith Speaks - another 'Special Comment' tonight!
Tue Sep 04, 2007 at 03:47:10 PM PDT
It's been too long. I feel the need - the need for a Keith Blast! He's bringing the lumber tonight!
As he deceived the troops at AlAsad Air Base yesterday with the tantalizing prospect that some of them might not have to risk being killed and might get to go home, Mr. Bush probably did not know that, with his own words, he had already proved that he had been lying, is lying, will be lying about Iraq.
He presumably did not know, that there had already appeared those damning excerpts from Robert Draper's book "Dead Certain." "I'm playing for October-November," Mr. Bush said to Draper. That, evidently, is the time during which, he thinks he can sell us the real plan. Which is, to quote him: "To get us in a position where the presidential candidates, will be comfortable about sustaining a presence."
Seven Days in May transmogrifies into Seven Days in September?
Thu Aug 30, 2007 at 09:17:53 AM PDT
President Jordan Lyman: All right, Colonel. Let's sum it up, shall we? You're suggesting what?
Colonel "Jiggs" Casey: I'm not sure, Mr. President: just some possibilities, what we call, uh "capabilities" in military intelligence...
President Jordan Lyman: You got something against the English language, Colonel?
Colonel "Jiggs" Casey: No, sir.
President Jordan Lyman: Then speak it plainly, if you will.
Colonel "Jiggs" Casey: I'm suggesting, Mr. President...
It’s one of the great scenes in movie history. Updating the possibilities and the capabilities in today’s world Colonel Casey would complete his sentence, "I'm suggesting, Mr. President there is a plot centered in the office of VP Dick Cheney, involving traitorous NeoCON think tanks, rogue elements of the U.S. military, and possibly elements of the Israeli government to launch a massive, sneak attack on Iran in the near future."
We’re not weathermen but we know which way the wind blows. A war with Iran is coming. Another important daily kos diary on this was posted last night:
