Board of Trustees live on MSNBC right now.

From ESPN:

Both football coach Joe Paterno and president Graham Spanier are out at Penn State in the wake of a disturbing child sex abuse scandal involving former assistant coach.

Paterno said in a statement Wednesday that he would retire after the season, but the university's board of trustees met Wednesday night and decided Paterno would not be allowed to continue as coach. Assistant coach Tom Bradley has been named interim coach.

Spanier chose to resign Wednesday and will be replaced temporarily by provost Rodney Erickson.

Paterno has been besieged by criticism since Jerry Sandusky, his former defensive coordinator, was charged over the weekend with 40 criminal counts of molesting eight young boys between 1994 and 2009 through his charitable foundation for at-risk youths, The Second Mile. Sandusky is free on bail and has a Dec. 7 court hearing.

Happy B-Day Baby 7 Billion

by deepsouthdoug

About 5 1/2 hours till his/her birth according to this clock at the time of this posting:

May you have a good life, but the deck is stacked against you.

May you be born into a loving family, not be born into crushing poverty, have enough food, clean water, and clean air.

What I hope for you is what I hope for all of us......

For this exercise the modern era begins with FDR and the New Deal.  How would you rank those Democratic Presidents from worst to first?

In historical order the Presidents are FDR, Harry Truman, JFK, LBJ, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama.

My ranking of Worst to First:

I've called my Democratic Senators and Congressman regarding the Obama CAVE on the debt.

The results:

Senator Amy Klobuchar  FOR

Senator Al Franken  Not Sure

Congressman Tim Walz  Not Sure

Roll Call -- What is the position of your Congressperson and Senators?  Have you called?

List the results and I encourage Kosacks to call their representatives.

I told the pleasant people answering the phones that if they voted for what I considered a Republican plan then I would not vote for them going forward.  The leverage I've got is my vote.

I am disappointed that Senator Franken is not publicly standing against this at this time.

If you're represented by Teabaggers call them and tell them to vote no.  Republican Hawks?  Call them and tell them to vote no because of defense cuts.  More than one way to defeat this bill.

It’s a Kabuki Cave, but it’s still a cave.  The Kabuki is a $ of debt increase now coupled with a $ of spending cuts up to a trillion dollars.  But then……..the ‘Super Congressional Committee’ will be charged with further deficit reduction and tax increases.  If they can’t agree on cuts and taxes then it’s cuts only.

Like the poet said, ‘You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows’ when it comes to the total cave that is this deal.

The GOP members of the Super Committee don’t negotiate, and the cuts happen.  To me it looks like this deal is a gimmick to lock in Medicare cuts.

The Caveinator in Chief started out negotiating a raise in revenue and cut spending position which he claimed was ‘fair and balanced’. We know that it was not fair deal in the first place because it was not balanced.  It was a Republican plan.

Does the outline of this debt deal mean Obama has caved?

I'm already all over your request Mr. President.

I told my two Democratic Senators and my Democratic Congressman that if they voted to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid like you want then I would not vote for them.  I called them and I wrote them.

Sorry this messes up you 'fair and balanced' policy Obama, but you've fucked this up so bad that you are going to have to go back to the eleven dimensional chess board and come up with a new plan.

Glad I could do what you requested Obama.

Have you called your reps on no cuts to the big three?

Have you called your Reps about voting no on cuts to the Big 3?

The oligarchs will use the cover of Citizen's United to defeat any Democrat who votes to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.  That would be another wonderful layer of irony in that the oligarchs would help vote out of office Democrats who helped accomplish what they've been trying to accomplish for decades.

The result of this political subterfuge is more Republicans elected to Congress to further help shred the social safety net.

It will be a pretty straight forward con.  There will be front groups set up with nice sounding names like 'It's my Social Security'.

But who is going to be behind 'It's my Social Security'?

Heat index yesterday in my Southern MN town was 118 degrees.  Each of he last two days the state dew point all time high record of 86 has been tied.   The record was held by my town, and now it is just shared with a few other places around the state.

The heat index in Madison MN yesterday was 123.  For MN that is fucking hot.  I lived 9 years in the Augusta, GA area, and that kind of heat is not out of the ordinary.  It's like that most of the summer.

When we lived in the Deep South I'd tell my Upper Midwest acquaintances that Augusta had two seasons - spring and hell.

Well hell has moved up North for awhile.

I sent this letter to my Senators and Representative earlier this week (so some of the numbers I quoted have changed in some news reports).  It is so nice to not live in the Deep South anymore, so I can actually write 'Democrats'.  I just wanted to share my letter as GeorgeXVIII has - and this certainly is not my 1st diary.

I do think it is important to write you Democratic Senators and Congresspersons.  GeorgeXVIII summarized his key point near the end of his letter.  I think it's a good idea to have an executive summary at the beginning of the letter which I did.

If you are so inclined feel free to use any part of this letter if you are going to write your reps.

Per Bloomberg:

President Barack Obama has chosen a candidate other than Elizabeth Warren as director of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, according to a person briefed on the matter.

The president’s choice is a person who already works at the consumer agency, the person said today. Obama may make the nomination as soon as next week, another person briefed on the administration’s plans said.

Your Friday night news dump.  I kinda knew this one was coming, but...................

Thinly sourced, but Bloomberg usually does a pretty good job with its reporting.
