NYT bombshell on disarray in the McCain camp, and a mystery (solved)
Sat Aug 09, 2008 at 10:10:18 PM PDT
Wow, big story by Ad Nags in the Sunday NYT on major disruptions in the McCain campaign.
http://www.nytimes.com/...
Now here's a mystery:
Two weeks ago, he publicly disagreed with his own spokeswoman, Jill Hazelbaker, after she used a line of attack against Senator Barack Obama that he had approved after careful strategizing within his campaign. Ms. Hazelbaker raced out of the Virginia campaign headquarters and refused to take Mr. McCain’s calls of apology, aides said, and a plan to have Republican members of Congress use the same critical line about Mr. Obama’s foreign trip fell apart.
OK, now we know the McCain people spend all their time coming up with attack lines and coordinating the Message of the Day with the Republicans in Congress.
But what was the "critical line" that McCain approved, and then disavowed? It's bizarre that the article doesn't report that key fact!
Answer after the jump!
Can you imagine if Al Gore endorsed Obama right now?
Sat Mar 22, 2008 at 09:27:32 PM PDT
What if Al Gore endorsed Obama, tomorrow?
What if Jimmy Carter endorsed him?
Or Colin Powell?
Do you think this bloody, self-defeating primary would go on another day?

Democrats in Washington want to keep impeachment off the table
By Steven Thomma
McClatchy Newspapers
WASHINGTON - The push to impeach President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney is gaining a hearing in some parts of the country, but not in Washington.
More than 70 cities and 14 state Democratic parties have urged impeachment or investigations that could lead to impeachment. The most common charge is that Bush manipulated intelligence to lead the country into the Iraq war. Other charges include spying on Americans and torturing suspected terrorists in violation of U.S. and international law.
...
Let's face it, although Bush and Cheney richly deserve impeachment, it's just not the best option right now.
I think there's a better way to be rid of Bush and Cheney ahead of schedule... more after the jump.
Tomorrow's NYT: Kristof calls on Cheney to resign!!!!

What was the over/under on when a major columnist demands that Bush or Cheney resign? Because it's time to pay up!
Mr. Cheney, Tear Down This Wall

At the Republican National Convention in 2000 that nominated him for vice president, Dick Cheney told a rapturous crowd that Democrats "will offer more lectures, and legalisms, and carefully worded denials. We offer another way, a better way, and a stiff dose of truth."
Oh yeah, I remember that! More laughs after the jump!

WP: Iraq War Naysayers May Have Hindsight Bias (LIKE HELL!)
Sun Oct 01, 2006 at 10:20:56 PM PDT
A shocking thumbsucker in the WaPo this morning, under the rubric "DISPATCH FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR," accusing Iraq war critics of "hindsight bias."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
This is the last brick in Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld's firewall: "Everybody Was Wrong."
That's what they said about the WMD case, and when they lose Iraq for good, that will be their last ditch defense.
But it's bullshit. We all know it. I know it. And it's not a trick of psychology, as I prove after the jump. Because I took notes.
The most important paragraph in the April NIE, and a challenge to Bush
Wed Sep 27, 2006 at 05:51:14 AM PDT
From the April NIE:
Four underlying factors are fueling the spread of the jihadist movement: (1) Entrenched grievances, such as corruption, injustice, and fear of Western domination, leading to anger, humiliation, and a sense of powerlessness; (2) the Iraq jihad; (3) the slow pace of real and sustained economic, social, and political reforms in many Muslim majority nations; and (4) pervasive anti-US sentiment among most Muslims, all of which jihadists exploit."
Three points.
1. Notice what's not on the list?
2. While everyone is focused on Iraq right now, what about the other three factors?
3. At first glance, Iraq appears to be only one of four different factors, but read closely.

Why is Treasury Secretary Snow getting fired?
Fri Apr 07, 2006 at 09:00:43 AM PDT
US Treasury's Snow says serves at Bush's pleasure
WASHINGTON, April 7 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow said on Friday that his future in the position would depend on private conversations between himself and President George W. Bush. ...
Snow said he was heartened by Bush's remarks earlier this week that Snow "has been a valuable member of my administration". "It's nice to have your boss endorse you. I appreciated that vote of confidence from the president," Snow said. He said discussions with Bush regarding his future are private conversations and wouldn't be made public.
Am I the only one who's not getting this? Why is Snow getting fired?
What if Bush had given this speech three years ago?

Tomorrow I will order our Armed Forces to invade the nation of Iraq with the objective of removing Saddam Hussein and installing a new government. The decision to go to war is the most serious any President can make. I am addressing the nation now to tell you the reason for my decision, and I owe it to you to tell the entire truth.

TIME publishes 83-page Gitmo interrogation log SICKENING!
Fri Mar 03, 2006 at 01:04:31 PM PDT
TIME.com has posted an 83-page detailed, minute-by-minute log of the interrogation at Camp X-Ray of Mohammad al-Qahtani, the so-called "20th hijacker," over the course of over two months of non-stop torture.
Link to story: http://www.time.com/...
Link to log (PDF): http://www.time.com/...
You will not believe it.
A [Pentagon] spokesperson told TIME that "it is longstanding Department of Defense policy to treat all detainees humanely." The painfully detailed interrogation log of al-Qahtani seems to make clear that at the very least that policy has not always been followed.
Dear Leader reiterates Dubai veto threat
Tue Feb 28, 2006 at 12:42:09 PM PDT
Dim Son has apparently prejudged the belated security investigation of the Dubai Deal:
The administration may be taking a second look at a Dubai-owned firm's plan to manage terminals at six major U.S. seaports, but President Bush made clear Tuesday that he's convinced the deal should be allowed to proceed.
... Bush reiterated last week's threat to veto any legislation that moves to block Dubai Ports World's acquisition of terminal operations from London-based Pacific & Oriental Steam Navigation Co.
http://www.marketwatch.com/...
This is like shooting retarded fish in a fucked-up barrel.
HELL NO to the Dubai Deal. HELL NO. Very simple.
Somebody has to run our ports, but why does it have to be an Arab royal family with close ties to bin Laden? Somebody else will do it if they don't. So screw the Emir of Dubai.
And over 70% of the American public will be with us, some for bad reasons, but anything that hurts Bush and the Republicans is good for America.
WaPo: Bush Agenda Not As Far-Reaching, Goals More Limited in Time of War
Wed Feb 01, 2006 at 07:49:44 PM PDT
Get this. Bush is blaming the war for the total failure of his domestic agenda last year. Seems when there's a war on, no one can pull off grand plans domestically, and that's why Bush crashed and burned in 05.
But when Medicare was rolled out in 1965, the war in Vietnam was raging and we had over 200,000 troops there! The truth is that Bush's domestic agenda failed because it was deeply unpopular and the public no longer trusts him to do great (or small) things.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
Bush Agenda Not As Far-Reaching
Goals More Limited in Time of War
...
After his far-reaching domestic agenda of 2005 collapsed along with his poll ratings, he and his advisers have concluded that grand proposals of the magnitude of restructuring Social Security or rewriting the tax code are unworkable in a time of war.

And here's a snotty quote from a Bush whore to get your Irish up:
Tracey Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, shot back: "Al Gore's incessant need to insert himself in the headline of the day is almost as glaring as his lack of understanding of the threats facing America. While the president works to protect Americans from terrorists, Democrats deliver no solutions of their own, only diatribes laden with inaccuracies and anger. "
