I Got the News Today (4/19/2007 Edition). Yesterday, the Department of Defense announced the names of two soldiers killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count the number of names released by the DoD is now 3311 and there are four more names of the deceased awaiting notification of the next of kin before being publicly released.
"He was so happy," Kallmeyer said. "I asked him what he was going to do. He said he was joining the Army. He seemed really excited. He wanted to drive a tanker."

DoD Identifies Marine Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Staff Sgt. Marcus A. Golczynski, 30, of Lewisburg, Tenn., died March 27 from wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Golczynski was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Nashville, Tenn.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Sean K. McDonald, 21, of Rosemount, Minn., died Mar 25 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. McDonald was assigned to the 9th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Wiesbaden, Germany.

According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count the number of names released by the DoD is now 3225 and there are three more names of the deceased awaiting notification of the next of kin before being publicly released.
DoD Identifies Army Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Lt. Col. Peter E. Winston, 56, of Plant City, Fla., died Nov. 13, 2006, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, from a non-combat related incident while in Iraq. He was assigned to the 143rd Sustainment Command, Orlando, Fla.
The incident is under investigation.

But February made me shiver

We started February with 3075 announced dead in Operation Iraqi Freedom and closed the month with 3158.

According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count the number of names released by the DoD is now 3160 and there are six more names of the deceased awaiting notification of the next of kin before being publicly released in Operation Iraqi Freedom and 371 deceased for Operation Enduring Freedom.
"He said, 'If anything happens to me, I want to make sure my kids know who I am,' " Jim Beardsley said. "He was afraid that if something happened to him, the kids being as small as they are, they wouldn't understand why he was gone. ... They'd think he was just gone. That was his fear."

I Got the News Today (2/23/2007 Edition). Yesterday, the Department of Defense announced the name of seven deceased soldiers. According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count the number of names released by the DoD is now 3149 and there are two more names of the deceased awaiting notification of the next of kin and in Operation Enduring Freedom there are 370 deceased: Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Army casualty assistance officer came to the father's doorstep about 11 p.m. Wednesday.
"I'm really ..." he began. "I'm at a loss. My mind's been racing back and forth to, you know, little blurbs from childhood and just different highlights that come to mind. Nothing that would mean a whole lot to anyone else."
"He was," Jack said, his voice quavering at the anger and the pain of it, "the most pure and nicest person that I have ever met."

"Half my heart is in Iraq," Central Michigan University student Trisha Kokx wrote on her Web site as she counted the days until her high school sweetheart returned from duty. "Everything I ever wanted in life I now will never have," Kokx wrote Tuesday.

According to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count the number of names released by the DoD is now 3132 and there are twelve more names of the deceased awaiting notification of the next of kin before being publicly released in Operation Iraqi Freedom and 367 in Operation Enduring Freedom.
"It’s kind of hard to believe because you’d just talked to him the day before," said his mother, Rose Duffman.
He had been in Afghanistan for five days when he died Sunday, his mother said.
Duffman was married, and he and his wife have a 5-month-old daughter.
"She was the light of his life," said Rose Duffman, who has lived in Washington, D.C., since 2004.
