Kos: The cover-up is worse than the crime.
Sat Jun 24, 2006 at 08:32:26 PM PDT
I am a regular Dailykos reader, comment poster and this is my second diary.
I am disturbed by Brooks's allegations and I don't think that telling us to ignore them, they can't destroy us, is a satisfactory answer.
KOS,IS THIS TRUE?
"In a private letter to hundreds of his fellow progressive bloggers, the Kingpin declared he would "go on the offensive" in a "couple of months," but in the meantime, a code of omertà was in order. "It would make my life easier if we can confine the story," he wrote. "If any of us blog on this right now, we fuel the story. Let's starve it of oxygen.""
McCain: Elections have consequences
Tue Jul 12, 2005 at 11:30:15 AM PDT
Sorry to quote something from drudge, but I found McCain's words chilling.
"Elections have consequences."
He was referring to the Supreme Court nomination and bascially said that THEY won so everyone else can just eat it.
Am I the only one who finds this chilling? I felt despair in the pit of my stomach when I read this today.
He also said NO FILIBUSTERS.
Almost half of all Americans who voted did not vote for Bushco. To McCain, we are not worth listening to. Winner take all....and take and take and take.
I have always been suspicious of him for supporting Bush after he and his family was defamed during the 2000 primary. Maybe they were part right...maybe he is a little nuts?
I know that politicians say more inflamatory things at fundraisers, but still, read it for yourself:
SCOTUS: no deal for Owens or Brown
Sun Jul 10, 2005 at 12:29:14 PM PDT
With disbelief, I have read that Owens and Brown may be on the short list for the Supreme Court.
REPS will say that the filibuster deal holds here because the Senate has already approved them for the Federal Appeals court, so, how could they be unnacceptable now?
I say NO.
Here is the talking point: It took an unprecedented deal to get these two accepted as Federal Appeals court judges. The deal was for the Appeals court, period.
The deal is OFF if they try to get one or both of these odious choices on the Supreme Court.
Am I right about this?
Does anyone see another good way to say NO to these two?
We can help the women of the Congo and others!
Sun May 08, 2005 at 05:19:35 PM PDT
HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP (none / 0)
Women for Women International helps these women directly.
I sponsor a woman in the Congo for $27 a month.
Financially: Your monthly contribution of $27 will help your sponsored sister recover from war. Your funds provide her with direct financial aid, rights awareness and leadership training, vocational skills training and access to income generating support, including microcredit loans.*
Billionaires for Pawlenty protest. These women rock!

A friend of mine in Minnesota sent this story. Came to her by email from one of the protesters.

An unbiased report (well, okay, it was from one of the unexpected guests):
Help please: Reasonable Conservative bloggers?
Tue Mar 22, 2005 at 05:47:04 PM PDT
I will spare you the long story, but I need some suggestions for conservative bloggers who are reasonable.
Reasonable means they actually stick to the facts, think for themselves as much as any of us can, and they don't just parrot the GOP talking points of the day.
Liberal Blogger hubby needs three examples to make a point.
Anyone point me in the direction of reasonable conservative bloggers?
Thanks to all.

Bush is right about Iraq
Tue Feb 01, 2005 at 06:05:58 PM PDT
I have read a few liberal columnists today, speculating that maybe those of us who were/are against the war were wrong.
A college student we know well was also asking this question.
Well...the answer is yes. Bush was right. The Iraqi people wanted democracy.
BUT.....
Adopt a Humvee

Riddle Me This: I Hate the War, But I Care More About the Troops Than the President
Only one company seems to know how to add armor to Humvees. And, guess what, it says it's never been asked to work faster or increase productivity:
Jacksonville, Florida-based Armor Holdings last month told the Army it could add armor to as many as 550 of the trucks a month, up from 450 vehicles now, Robert Mecredy, president of the company's aerospace and defense group, said in an interview today.
"We're prepared to build 50 to 100 vehicles more per month," Mecredy said in the telephone interview. "I've told the customer that and I stand ready to do that."
So what's the problem? The client--the government--has never asked for more.
Huh? Why not?

Can You Use 'Empire' and 'Women'in a Single Sentence? (Neither Can I)
[This is from SwamiUptown, whose blog is on Beliefnet.com]
Woke up this morning to see that The New York Post had, once again, made me proud to be an American--on the front page was a helmeted, dirty-faced soldier, butt dangling from his lips, under the headline SMOKIN' and over the caption MARLBORO MEN KICK BUTT IN FALLUJAH.
There, right there, is our big problem.

What Disney Forgot to Tell Us about "Fahrenheit 9/11"
October 21, 2004 | 2:30 p.m.
First, we heard that Disney hated Michael Moore's film even before he made it. Then they dropped it because they didn't want to annoy Jeb Bush. Now Roger Friedman offers an even better explanation for Disney's refusal to distribute Moore's film:
On July 1, just a week after "Fahrenheit 911" opened, the [New York] Times reported "Disney Gives Details of Plan to Aid European Parks." The story detailed the financial history of EuroDisney including this one important fact that has somehow been overlooked: In 1994, two years after the theme park opened and was already plunged into financial chaos, one man saved it. That was Prince Walid bin Talal of Saudi Arabia. His investment, valued at above $24 million, literally saved EuroDisney from closing and created a bond between the Saudi royal family and Disney's Michael Eisner that lasts until this day.
