A blograiser to chat, mingle and change New York history

Wed Jan 31, 2007 at 08:11:03 AM PDT

Join the New York netroots
and Eliot Spitzer tomorrow
at the blograiser for
Craig Johnson

A little known fact : even though New York has had its fair share of Democratic governors, its state government has been in the clutches of the Republicans for 150 years. The only two times the state government was all blue were in 1932 and 1964. Teddy Roosevelt said once that 'the state Senate is constitutionally Republican'; it's not, but it's been reliably Republican since that party was founded in the 1850s.

It's probably the main reason so many groups have come together to fundraise on Thursday, February 1st, for Craig Johnson.

My official position on the Brooklyn CD-11 primary race

As publisher of The Daily Gotham and culturekitchen, and a member of the DailyKos community, I think it's necessary for me to state my position on this hotly contested race.

Viggo's impeachement buzz

Tue Oct 11, 2005 at 02:37:44 PM PDT

So now I know why I am getting pounded with people doing searches on Viggo. I re-blogged Viggo Mortensen's call for impeachment in  c u l t u r e k i t c h e n: "Members of the Bush Administration responsible for the blatant lies and self-serving manipulations that have fanned the flames of disaster from Iraq to New Orleans must be prosecuted as our laws require." Drudge Report posted a link to an interview The Progressive just publisheda and in which he talks about his favorite topic du jour, the impeachment of the whole top tier of the Bush Administration:

Meet the Dominionists' 21

Thu Sep 29, 2005 at 10:45:42 AM PDT

Cross-posted at culturekitchen

Today starts the purging of the Democratic Party.

As far as I am concerned, these 21 senators that voted for Roberts have to be weakened, contested and more pointedly, voted out of office in 2006. Ken Salazar has shown to be a Republican plant within the Democratic Party. That man has to go BIG TIME. What Chaffee is to NARAL, Salazar is to the Dems.

These 21 senators become hostage of Republicans in their states and have gladly partaken of the political Stockholm Syndrome that has moved the Democratic Party away of its core values. Lieberman? The next Zel Miller and in a hartbeat.

These bozos have to go.

UPDATED: Starting All over Again : How to win back NYC

Thu Sep 15, 2005 at 02:30:29 PM PDT

Ok, so I took Mike's advice and I am starting all over again. He said this topic is far too important to let it go into stupid ranting.

Here's the deal:

Grassroots activism at the national level, whether online or off is an animal of a completely different kind than the activism that happens at the local level. The local is more personal, more mundane. I have incumbents in city government that live in my neighborhood. You are liable to bump into people even in a city as big as New York.

NYC is a big city and we need more people to fight the good fight. The DNC, the DFA and the liberal blogosphere have basically turned their backs on us.

Playing Devil's Advocate to NARAL : Report on a Conference Call

Wed Aug 24, 2005 at 04:47:21 PM PDT

Update [2005-8-24 19:47:21 by Armando]: From the diaries by Armando. A few days late, but a different perspective on NARAL. But some similar conclusions regarding their political acumen.

This is a followup to requests for comments I posted at c u l t u r e k i t c h e n and Daily Kos; regarding a conference call with NARAL that I was part of and that I noted at, c u l t u r e k i t c h e n: Liveblogging NARAL. I still believe it was luck that had me participate in this conference call, and I really take it as an honor that I could have a very interesting discussion with :

Vicky Saporta, President of the National Abortion Federation
www.prochoice.org

Alice Cohan, Political Director of the Feminist Majority Foundation
www.feminist.org

Nancy Keenan, President of NARAL
www.naral.org

and about 10 other progressive women bloggers of the Blog Sheroes Network, including :

I'm in a conference call with the president of NARAL

Wed Aug 10, 2005 at 03:19:25 PM PDT

Hey gang,

If you could ask any question to the president of NARAL, what would you ask? If

I am going to be on a conference call with the president of NARAL and some other women bloggers in about an hour. I definitely want to hear what you would like to ask and/or tell her. I will be live-blogging as much as possible at my blogbase,

So let it rip.

Is Abu Gonzalez pissed at Babyface Roberts?

Tue Jul 26, 2005 at 09:31:32 PM PDT

I really don't know what to make of this :

(1) Is this comment meant to be a bite at Babyface for having lost the nomination to him?

(2) Is this bite meant to create an opening for pro-choicers to attack Roberts not on his record but on what he could do if on the bench?

(3) Is this Abu's way to ask the Dems to go soft on him in wake of the investigation over possible tampering of evidence over Plamegate?

(4) What does is this comment telling us that Bush doesn't want us to know?

(5) If this is Abu's way of turning on his master, does it mean they're really shitting their pants over at the White House?

64% of Americans disapprove of Bush and other great poll numbers

Fri Jul 22, 2005 at 12:38:40 AM PDT

AH! These numbers just make me all a-tingly.

I first posted this entry at my blog, culturekitchen, and after I started looking for numbers to counter the cynicism of a lot of people in this site. Too many have been dismissing their fellow American's interest in the Rovegate scandal and now the coming SCOTUS confirmation hearings.

Well, I just couldn't believe that people, my neighbors, are so disconnected from politics that they wouldn't care. For one, SCOTUS and Rove is what everybody seems to be talking about here in my neck of the NYC woods. Second, I've always been suspicious of Bush 51% mandate.

So here you have it people, the Harris Polls numbers you've been waiting.

You have 30 minutes to get to the NYPL and rally againt the Patriot Act

Tue Jul 12, 2005 at 08:32:56 AM PDT

This was first published at The Daily Gotham

--------------------------

Come on over and join us at the lions library. It is imperative to show our faces, voice our dissent and petition --no, demand of Senator Chuck Schumer and Congressman Anthony Weiner to become co-sponsors of a bill that would significantly alter The Patriot Act, the most unpatriotic piece of legislation ever approved by our representatives in the Senate and Congress.

Will Rehnquist retire tomorrow and does this mean war?

Thu Jul 07, 2005 at 08:14:00 PM PDT

I got this earlier from Brad Friedman of Bradblog:

Received this moments ago from our friend Tony Trupiano of  The Tony Show who received it himself via Email just moments after going off the air and thus was not able to run it. He tells The BRAD BLOG that he considers his source for this to be "golden"...

Just spoke to a Senate press secretary who said Republicans on the Judiciary Committee let them know that they should be prepared for Rehnquist to make a statement sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. tomorrow morning and not to schedule anything during that time. Please be advised.

This report seems to synch up with a report just out at RAW STORY, and with Bob Novak's column this morning which reported that "Rehnquist also will announce his retirement before the week is over."

Geez.

I thought I'd get a break this summer. There's just no time to rest --but I'd like to take a moment and go over some words of wisdom via Jay Rosen of PressThink:

Hillary Clinton and The "L" Word (with poll)

Mon Jun 13, 2005 at 06:34:57 AM PDT

[ cross-posted from : c u l t u r e k i t c h e n : The "L" Word : Why do yo think people spread rumors about Hillary being a lesbian? ]

Once in a while I get interviewed by the great people of Campoy en su punto, con Concha García Campoy | PUNTO RADIO; a talk radio show from Spain.

So they want to know what the blogs are talking about Hillary :

(1) Is Hillary running for President? If she is, should she? Does she have support from the grassroots?

(2) Why, oh why, the allegations that Hillary is a lesbian? They wanted to know if this was new but I have been hearing about these allegations as far back as 1990, when I worked briefly on a bio book  about her.

OK, now talk amongst yourselves.
