If you do understand, you'll enjoy this analogy, which was forwarded by John S. Taylor, Superintendent of Schools for the Lancaster County, PA, School District. Be a friend to a teacher and pass this on.
Ok, some of us think the lava lamp in the corner is a little tacky. And the orange drapes do not match the purple sofa offending some esthetic sensibilities. Still the house is comfortable and roomy.
When one thinks of religious intolerance in this country probably the first thought is of New England and Puritans. They are known to have forced dissidents such as Anne Hutchinson to leave the colonies for the wilderness. They are also known for the infamous Salam Witch Trials. But the Puritans were minor league compared to the later residents of this country.
Woodhull Foundation challanges Brownbeck's "experts" and the data in their presentation at pornography summit. They are being refused permission to present experts with opposing studies. Woodhull Freedom Foundation press release below the fold.
Krugman hits another homerun with his lastest column! It speaks for itself and is well worth reading the whole thing. I love the sentence: "But the national election was about who would best defend us from gay married terrorists".
The Washington Post has a new op-ed peice by Reagan ex-Department of Interior head, James Watts. It reveals the Theocon weakness to activism by religious liberals.
Ahhhhh James Watt famous for claiming "The Beach Boys" attracted the wrong element.

Why Republicans doesn't want properity in the United States.
It serves them to keep the larger mass of people poor, and to destroy public education. The real agenda began with Reagan as he broke the unions and began deregulation. Each step has bought us closer to their goals.
Vermont considering comprehensive single payer healthcare plan
I was watching the capital gang on CNN. It was same old debate with Robert Novak and Kate O'Beirne representing the wingnuts against some reasonable comments from Mark Shields, Al Hunt and Margaret Carlson. At the end, in their outrage of the week segment Novak ranted about the Vermont Universal healthcare plan. First I had heard of it, but it is always a good bet that anything Novak hates is good for the rest of us! So I did a bit of looking and found the following (below). Why has the press not covered this?
Fundamentalist creeds not to your taste? Looking for a more palatable
persuasion? Seeking sustenance for the body and soul? Does all this talk of politics and religion make you hungry out of sheer frustration? Tired of a government and a press that endlessly tries to serve Kool-ade to you? Well look no more my friend, welcome to the Church Reformed Epicurean Creed.
Perhaps it is the recent attacks on the Constitution by the Republicans in the Congress or perhaps it is a result of the continued pandering to the religious right that has emboldened our homegrown fascists. Whatever the inspiration the burn the book folks are off and running with a new bill in Alabama. As usual they don't call it censorship, it is "protecting" the children. Of course, they probably know the Supreme Court would strike it down, if it passed. But for them that is a win-win a bouquet of flowers for the religious right, and something else to complain about the Supreme Court.
George Bush announces his intention to celebrate passage of the bill making removal of the estate tax permanent by a number of appointments.

While we all work to regain majority party status, it is obvious there are a few Republicans around who are reponsable members of Congress.
Chris Shays appears to be one of the good guys, as Republicans go. He has always responded to my queries and critiques.
His recent statement on the GOP's descent into theocracy is well known. Saturday he is holding Town Meetings in CT's 4th district. It might be well for us to show up.
The news of the last few days has me overdosing on a religion. Let me share my thinking on this. The conservatives have it backwards when they complain about too much sex on television. It is religion that has way too much exposure. I'll go further. Perhaps religion should be private and sex should be public.
We all understand what this is really about. Terry as a metaphor. Feeding tube equivalent to umbilical cord. You want her wishes to be irrelevant, just as you want all "choice" out of the discussion. Well, of course, since you believe this is an immoral choice. You want to pretend there is hope for Terry when none exists. Just as you want severely handicapped neural tube defect children carried to term. The most common type of late term abortion.
From an essay from my daughter's class on the work of The Bard.
The issues with Henry V have different connections to modern events. There is a disturbing similarity between Henry's justifications for war and the Bush Administration's reasons for war with the Iraqis. Like Henry's strange and flimsy inherited claims to France, the Bush administration named questionable links to terrorist's organizations and hidden weapons of mass destruction as reasons for a war. Similar to Henry's speeches about the "honour" of the English, Bush gave speeches about the American's patriotism and unity under god.
My task was to comb the diaries and try to put the information we have learned about gopusa all in one diary. Many people have contributed to this, but because information was duplicated I'd rather just credit the "users at KOS" Thank you all
Among journalists, has the ethos of protecting their own replaced the stated ethics of their professional duties? The police have their blue line, and the medical profession has the unspoken agreement to not speak ill of each other. These agreements put the protection of ones own profession above the mission of the professed mission of the profession.
