Every Day is Corporation Day!

Mon Sep 04, 2006 at 05:41:11 AM PDT

Happy Labor Day!   I was listening to David Wessell this morning on NPR.  Wessell is the Wall Street Journal's deputy Washington bureau chief (sounds impressive).   While I don't have a transcript the essence of what he was saying was that we got ourselves a good old fashioned class war.   The rich have been getting much richer.   The country has made huge gains in productivity.   Corporate profits are up.   And yet wages for the average Americans are stagnating or dropping.   He kept saying that in America "the middle of the middle" are losing ground.   Middle of the middle?   Sounds like a fancy way to say "the average America family".

Blogophobia - A healthy and justified fear of blogs

Sun Aug 13, 2006 at 05:57:42 AM PDT

Did you see Joe Klein's column in Time?  Joe is upset.  Not a bad way to start your day, making Joe Klein upset. He called you "blognuts".   He mentioned the "nauseating triumphalism" caused by the Lamont victory.  What he doesn't understand is that he feels nauseous because his guy lost.   Trust me, I've felt nauseous for years now.   Didn't go away until last tueday night around 11:30 PM.  But we can't expect Joe to be all-knowing.  But at least we made him sick.  But that is just the beginning.  Check out this other column  that showed up in my paper today.

Kos Finally Hit the Big Time - The new mike moore

Wed Aug 09, 2006 at 09:43:24 AM PDT

Someone smarter than me once said to always read your enemy's newspapers.   So back in 2004 i signed up for Ken Mehlman's fun e-mails from GOP.com.    I enjoyed some fun times with the Bush twins back in the day telling me how great daddy was.  Entertaining stuff.

check out the home page today.  Who are the enemies of the GOPeople?   Ned Lamont?  Check.   Mike Moore?  Check.   Chairman Dean?  Check!!!  Congressman Murtha?  Check!  And now the fifth most wanted man in the non reality based community?   Someone's kid?   Someone's younger brother?  Who is that?   He doesn't look that scary to me.....oh...its the dreaded KOS!   Run for your lives!!

Not bad.  Some guy starts a website, writes some things, and now he is on the top 5 most wanted.

People power.  Scares the shit out of them.

Now...make sure to go check out the site before I do what any good and normal blogger would do and hack it to pieces.

Republicans to Raise Minimum Wage? They are desperate

Fri Jul 28, 2006 at 08:45:39 AM PDT

Damn!  Those internal polls on the Republican side must be scaring the shit out of them.

"There's a general agreement among Republicans (opposing the raise) that "maybe we don't like it much, but we need to move forward with it just for political reasons."

So they control everything but they are going to do something they don't want to do?   Running scared.

This was last month

Democrats have made increasing the wage a pillar of their campaign platform and are pushing to raise the wage to $7.25 per hour over two years. In June, the Republican-controlled Senate refused to raise the minimum wage, rejecting a proposal from Democrats.

Now, how about we get some Democrats to start standing up, fighting and showing some spine so we can actually take bakc the house and senate.  ATTACK!!

College Costs Up, Wages for Graduates Down

Tue Jul 25, 2006 at 05:34:08 AM PDT

I figured Bonddad would have diaried this but I see he has tackled some other issue today.  Has he ever taken a day off from writing in depth financial analysis?  Bonddad has been telling you this for a while but this is the first time I've seen numbers like this.  Welcome to the Bush Economy:

Wage stagnation, long the bane of blue-collar workers, is now hitting people with bachelor's degrees for the first time in 30 years. Earnings for workers with four-year degrees fell 5.2 percent between 2000 and 2004 when adjusted for inflation, according to White House economists.

CNN Says GOP Divided?!

Mon Jul 10, 2006 at 02:14:18 PM PDT

What next?   Headlines saying Bush is incompetent and unpopular?  This article actually says the Republicans are divided and the Democrats are united.   On CNN!

So it goes this year for House Republicans, their majority in jeopardy for the first time in more than a decade. Take an unpopular president, factor in deep divisions in the GOP ranks and add to that Democrats determined to regain control. It all means a Congress having trouble doing its most basic job: passing legislation.

When was the last time you heard a democrat described as "determined" in the press?  When was the last time you heard the republicans described as "deeply divided"? I like the looks of that.  And then to wrap it up we get the Republicans accusing the Democrats of "playing politics" for wanting to raise the minimum wage.

Republicans point out that Democrats are not above bringing up proposals just for political gain. They note that Democrats have insisted on bringing up a proposal to raise the minimum wage, which has failed for nine years.

Here's hoping the democrats keep "insisting" to bring up that issue.

Dem Outraises Incumbent Rep in NY 20

Fri Jul 07, 2006 at 05:05:49 AM PDT

There has never been a real challenge to John Sweeney in the NY-20.   Until about 6 months ago people were still saying it was impossible due to the gerrymandered district he represents.   So why did his top challenger just outraise him for the last quarter?   Even when John McCain stopped by to raise money for Sweeney?   Money talks.   And this is encouraging news.   Sweeney has a fight on his hands.  And he is using money that he is getting from all the top right wing PACs to fight.  Money, that without Gillibrand's challenge, that would be going elsewhere.

According to the Gillibrand camp, her latest Federal Election Commission filing will show she has raised just a tad over $500,000 over the past three months. Sweeney's campaign (in a missive forwarded by Sweeney ally, Clifton Park GOP Chairman Mike Lisuzzo) declared that he has raised $479,000 during the last quarter.

Game on.

Sweeney will also soon be the target of a state investigation for using our NY tax dollars to tax 40 friends and lobbyists on a ski weekend in Lake Placid.

"Let somebody else deal with it" George W Bush

Wed Jun 28, 2006 at 06:48:26 AM PDT

Did you hear your president yesterday when he said this?

It's just so easy to say, let somebody else deal with it

But, I thought being president was hard work?  I guess that is another challenge W has overcome.  So, what was George talking about?

Need Help Building a Better Terrorist? Just call the FBI

Tue Jun 27, 2006 at 02:00:08 PM PDT

In reading about the recent arrests of a group of people in Florida who supposedly had plans to blow up the Sears Tower and were tied to Al Qaeda and yet they didn't actually have any plans, they actually studied the Bible (not overly popular with Jihadists) and  the only evidence against them was things they had said to an FBI informant, it made me think of a few things.

Kerry Asking for More Money

Fri Apr 22, 2005 at 11:15:45 AM PDT

I never gave money to a political campaign before 2004.  And I gave a lot in '04.  Dean, Moveon, Kerry, DNC and a couple thousand bucks in my local D.A.s race.  Thankfully we pulled off a huge upset locally or I'd probably never have given money again.  But those were desperate times.  I really felt I should give anything I had to keep Bush out of the Whitehouse for another four years.  And I did.  And I'm still paying off debt that I could've paid off instead of supporting these people.   I thought it was the right thing to do.

Google Lawsuit Could Impact Bloggers

Mon Mar 28, 2005 at 07:34:08 AM PDT

There is a lawsuit against Google for their Google news service that may have a serious impact on blogging.   The AFP news service is suing Google for using AFP headlines in their news results.  Here is the quote that bloggers might want to check out:

Bloggers traditionally quote articles and link to them in much the same way Google's News site does. This means they can no longer do that with AFP news items without threat of a lawsuit.

I know there has been a lot of talk about the Feds regulating political blogs but I haven't seen anything here about this.

Trusting Bush with Your National Security - Let's Pretend

Wed Mar 02, 2005 at 02:31:00 PM PDT

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050302/us_nm/security_radiation_dc

Let's pretend this story was written in early 2002 (when it should've been).   Let's pretend that they actually listened to Richard Clarke.  Let's pretend that by "taking the battle to the terrorists" in Iraq we are making the world safer.  Let's pretend that Tommy Thompson never talked about how unprepared we were when he resigned.

Let's pretend we feel safer.   What is the terror alert for "safe"?  Green?  Blue?  How come they never announce that one?

But they are on the job...now.  At my job this wouldn't fly.   If a couple thousand people died on my watch and I took 4 years to implement basic safety procedures and then touted my "big success" (We thought it was a nuke but it was only a fire extinguisher!) I think I'd be out of a job.  Shit, if I didn't change the lard in the deep fryer and someone complained I'd be in more trouble than these criminals.

What do you think Senator Byrd?

Like Zell Miller...Without the Crack

Tue Mar 01, 2005 at 07:38:21 AM PDT

If you missed the Daily Show last night you should check out the re-run tonight.  Stewart interviews Ben Nelson and he opens it by saying something along the lines of "You're a pretty conservative Democrat...sort of like Zell Miller..without the crack".   As usual Stewart was on top of his game and made some good comments on privatization.  It's also worth checking it out to see Nelson's tie.  Yikes.

We're really sorry about your loss....

Tue Feb 01, 2005 at 07:05:00 AM PDT

Mom and Dad, don't worry about your kids joining the military.   Sure its dangerous but if they die you get a quarter million dollars!

http://www.cnn.com/2005/ALLPOLITICS/02/01/death.benefits.ap/index.html

And its going to be retroactive in case any of the 1,400 or so families that have already lost family members in the war were second guessing this whole charade.

Now about reinstating the draft....

CNN Article Touts Military Life and Private Investing

Thu Jan 20, 2005 at 02:58:12 PM PDT

Wonder who was behind this article?

http://money.cnn.com/2005/01/19/pf/millionaire/rp_murray/index.htm?cnn=yes

It is a "How To" guide showing you how to become a millionaire via the military and at the same time touts how our lucky millionaire claims social security is part of her retirement plan but her "personal private" investing is where she plans to REALLY make her money.

Odd timing on this article.  And no less than home page placement on CNN?

End of the Wild West

Thu Dec 02, 2004 at 07:20:02 PM PDT

At a recent speaking engagement, former CIA Director Tenet on the Internet:

"Access to networks like the World Wide Web might need to be limited to those who can show they take security seriously"

And:

"I know that these actions will be controversial in this age when we still think the Internet is a free and open society with no control or accountability," he told an information-technology security conference in Washington, "but ultimately the Wild West must give way to governance and control."

Oh...wow.  "when we still think the Internet is a free and open society"    Damn.  I just got use to thinking the USA wasn't free and open and that hasn't been easy.  I'm not sure I'll let the internet go so easily. Read all about Tenet's great ideas here:
