TN Superdelegate: "Once Hillary sees that, he's a dead man anyway"

Sun May 11, 2008 at 04:14:14 PM PDT

I searched for this story on the site but didn't find anything. If I missed an earlier post, please let me know and I'll delete this diary.

In the Memphis Daily News on Friday, an article was published which gives deep insight into just why some Superdelegates are not backing Hillary Clinton and a possible reason why a lot of them are, and maybe why some are noncommittal.

Supposedly, Congressman Lincoln Davis of Tennessee, an uncommitted superdelegate, was contacted by the Clinton campaign in hopes that they could woo him to commit to her campaign. The story posted on the front page of The Hill newspaper said that Davis had turned down an invitation to meet with her team.

"He says that's not true," U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., told The Daily News about Davis' refusal to meet with Clinton. "But that's on the front page of The Hill. I told him he might as well go ahead and endorse Barack (Obama), because once Hillary sees that he's a dead man anyway."

Oh, it gets better. Cooper dishes on Hillary's dirty tactics. More below the fold.

Why I voted for Barack Obama today

Thu Jan 31, 2008 at 07:37:24 PM PDT

This diary was supposed to have a different title. It was supposed to say, "Why I voted for John Edwards today." But yesterday changed everything.

Early voting ended in Tennessee tonight at 6pm. Not wanting to be a part of the mass hysteria of the voting public attempting to vote on touch screen machines in a metropolitan area, I decided to take advantage of the early voting at the last minute. There was actually a line waiting to vote tonight, the last 10 minutes of early voting, so I think that bodes well for Tuesday's turnout. After showing my voter ID card and waiting for a touch-screen voting machine to open, I cast my Super Tuesday ballot for Barack Obama.

Read on to find out why...

Kumbaya? or STFU! (with poll & gratuitous Pootie pic!)

Tue Jan 29, 2008 at 09:59:45 PM PDT

I used the diary title to attract attention, but I don't want anybody to STFU. I actually want everybody to speak up for their candidate! I do want this diary to be positive, and I don't want to leave out any Democratic candidate. But there's a catch.

Thieves nab Nashville voter rolls with FULL SS#'s (UPDATED)

Fri Dec 28, 2007 at 06:16:26 PM PDT

I searched the site and scrolled through the recent diary list and didn't see this story anywhere, but let me know if it's already been diaried and I'll delete it.

From The Tennessean

Thieves broke in to the Davidson County Election Commission offices over the Christmas holiday and made off with computers containing the names and identifying information of every voter in Nashville.

Alabama Doc Told Me to Vote for Universal Healthcare

Wed Nov 28, 2007 at 07:10:47 PM PDT

As one of the millions of uninsured Americans trying to stay healthy in this country, I had to make my annual trip to the Doc-in-a-Box (as my mother used to say about urgent care clinics) to get my prescriptions re-written. This doctor was a new one, though, whom I'd never seen before. I was told he'd see me for a charge of $60 and then only write one month's worth of my prescription, and having only 1 day's worth left on my prescription I agreed to the terms. What happened during the visit was mostly routine, until I started explaining my situation. His response absolutely floored me.

Sorry for the last-minute notice, but I just discovered this.

While searching through my local Cooperative Extension website for information on honeybees, I stumbled across an announcement about a workshop teaching people how to make their own biodiesel from waste vegetable oil! Workshop will be held near the Huntsville/Decatur/Athens area of Alabama.

US 'to build Libyan nuclear plant'

Tue Mar 13, 2007 at 07:39:31 AM PDT

I'm not even sure what to say about this, so I'll let the story tell itself.

According to Al-Jazeera:

The US is to help Libya build its first-ever nuclear power plant according to the African nation's official news agency, Jana.

...snip...

There was no immediate confirmation of the deal from the US, but any such agreement would continue a considerable thawing of relations between the two countries.

Not the diary you expected to see (w/Poll)

Mon Feb 19, 2007 at 01:49:46 AM PDT

I wanted to post in the two great diaries on disability (here and here) but I did not because my posts would have hijacked the threads. I was going to post that my son has a medical condition which is considered a disability, but it's probably only a disability because of societal structures and schedules. However, because of this medical condition and a concomitant learning disability, he is a special education student.

This weekend, I overheard a discussion about how disabled/special education students should not be 'mainstreamed' because they slow down progress for the 'normal' students. I'd like to start a discussion about this topic and get information from the educators and parents here who have knowledge and experience in these matters.

More information below.

Rep. Cummings: What Type of Legacy does Bush Plan to Leave Behind?

Tue Jan 23, 2007 at 11:43:54 AM PDT

As a former constituent of Representative Elijah Cummings (MD-07), I am on his email list.

I received an email from him to his constituents in the prelude to Bush's State of the Union Address tonight. In it, he asks if Bush will finally listen to America and will begin to be the uniter he pledged to be after "he was declared the winner of the 2000 Presidential Election."

Representative Elijah Cummings is the Chairman of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, and serves on the House Armed Services and Oversight & Government Reform Committees.

Bush's comments on Bin Laden: Oh, the irony!

Fri Jan 12, 2007 at 10:56:05 PM PDT

My teenaged son, watching a show on the History Channel about the war in Afghanistan, just asked me why we haven't found Bin Laden yet. I told him we haven't found him because we quit looking for him. He asked why, and I told him it's because Bush, himself, said he just doesn't care about him. My son didn't understand this and kept asking why Bush didn't care about finding him. I offered that perhaps Bush needed a boogeyman to keep the populace scared (he used Bin Laden to his advantage in 2004, that's for sure). I didn't know what to say except to go looking for the exact quotes to read to him.

The exact Q&A from the White House website is posted on the flip.

FBI visits a DailyKos poster (a true story) [was FBI infiltrates DailyKos]

Sat Nov 25, 2006 at 07:55:42 PM PDT

Back in the days when Scooter Libby was warning Judith Miller about the Aspens turning in clusters because they're connected at the roots, there was a lot going on behind the scenes here at DailyKos of which most people were unaware. We were being watched for clues to Jack Abramoff connections. I found out the hard way one day after posting a diary comment without double-checking my info first: I came home to an FBI business card on my door.

Today, I registered to vote (POLL)

Thu May 11, 2006 at 02:30:30 PM PDT

I registered to vote today. No, it's not my first time, and no, it wasn't because of some epiphany I had.

But I caused the woman soliciting voter registration to have an epiphany.

It was all about kicking Bush to the curb.

'Mission Accomplished' Banner: Paid for by GOP

Mon May 01, 2006 at 03:14:20 PM PDT

On the 3rd anniversary of witnessing Bush's photo op in front of a giant banner declaring "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq, I thought I'd finally diary my investigative efforts into who was responsible for that giant piece of propaganda.

Note: I first posted this as a comment in an Open Thread a few days after joining Daily Kos in October 2004. I didn't diary it then because I hadn't passed the waiting period. I've not seen this anywhere else since then, so I decided to repost for the benefit of everyone who didn't see the comment in the Open Thread that night.

Boehner outlines 3-month House Republican agenda

Thu Mar 16, 2006 at 01:51:48 PM PDT

In today's print edition of The Hill, Patrick O'Connor gives us House Majority Leader John Boehner's legislative schedule for the next three months.

One telling comment from O'Connor:

...[Boehner] is also expected to initiate a major push on the party's message and long-term vision at some point after members return from the March recess.

I thought it would be good to list what is in the works in the House for the next three months so we can stay on top of the issues and know what's going down. This way, we have a better chance of educating ourselves on the issues ahead of time, so we can stay ahead of the news cycle and refute the talking points as Republicans push forward with their agenda.

Details and snarkiness on the flip.

Juanita says Tom is having a bad day.

Okay, after Tom DeLay told Chris Matthews last night that his golf outing in Scotland was paid for by a "legitimate conservative organization," Ronnie Earle has issued new subpoenas. Bunches of them.   (These official actual subpoenas will open in PDF format.)  Hey, just like DeLay, Abramoff may be conservative but he ain't legitimate.

Life In Hell -- Classic/timely strip from 1991 (w/pic)

Wed Oct 05, 2005 at 04:37:04 PM PDT

I thought that with all the rumors on the internets tonight about the possibility of 22 indictments coming from Fitzgerald, it's the perfect time to post my favorite Life in Hell comic.

The paper at my university, The Auburn Plainsman (War Eagle!), used to run the Life in Hell comic strips. I clipped my favorites, including this one, but I managed to find a clean copy on the 'net to show y'all.

This piece is Matt Groening's brilliant re-write of the Pledge of Allegiance.
