They Know Not What They Do!

Start at Crooks and Liars. There's a new book out that proposes the radical idea that the wealthy have been manipulating the religious in order to make more money and not pay taxes. Ya think? But it sort of vindicates something I've been thinking about for a long time.
Hi! I'm a Democrat, and I think your church sucks. Vote for me!

This diary is about the
Ronald Reagan Young America's Foundation Conference I saw on C-SPAN this morning. Move along. nothing but snark here. Just practicing. Just for laughs.

Click to get sick with a larger picture.
People are going to find out what a C-SPAN junkie I am, but too bad. This is bigger than me. I don't like to dilute DailyKos with diaries because I'm not that good at writing and I'm very compassionate of what people have to wade through. My enjoyment of DailyKos is pretty much that of serious fan. If there were DailyKos games, I'd be the one in the front row with no shirt on with a Giant Orange K rolling down over my pot belly, screaming at the top of my lungs and generally making an ass out of myself in a chorus line of fans.

RFID Passports - The Key to Happiness

The Key to happiness if you are a Citizen Watcher employed by the federal government is to have a unique identifier for every person on the planet in a centralized database. In esoteric technical circles this unique personal identifier is referred to as The Key. Advanced nirvana in watcher-world is to write this unique identifier, The Key, onto personal identification devices and make it illegal to leave home without it.
Dean does not speak for me

I don't hold any animus toward white Christians or fellow citizens who subscribe to the ideals of the Republican agenda. I don't think Howard does either, nor do the vast majority of people who identify themselves as Democrats - moderate or immoderate.
I am not a troll. I offer my true feelings here inspite of my fear of ostracism from DailyKos. I can't prove I'm not a troll because my history of approved comments has dissappeared into the archives to save bandwidth.
Avoid DNS; Hardcode Your Hosts File
Wed Mar 16, 2005 at 02:24:17 AM PDT
Don't let DNS get between you and your Daily Kos.
If your computer already knows the IP address for Daily Kos it won't need to go ask DNS and risk getting no answer.
Instructions follow for how to hardcode your local host file to avoid DNS lookups for known hosts.
Gannongate Search Popularity Report
Fri Feb 11, 2005 at 07:20:26 AM PDT
Just an observation, but Gannongate seems to have built-in subliminal meme qualities about it. I'd like to hear what others think as I continue to research it.
As of about 10 this morning there are about 4400 results for Gannongate at Google. Results 1-10 are in the blogosphere, not MSM. There are about 4 Daily Kos entries on page one.
So Google definitely ranks blog pages higher than Yahoo.
Yahoo returns 292 results for Gannongate one word and 28,000 results for Gannon gate two words. The larger result for the two-word concept just means there are more probability that the words Gate and Gannon occur on the same web page.
Which begs the following questions when writing about it.
- Which terms are searched by non-Kos researchers, i.e. the "real" audience?
- What's the most effective name for this scandal?
- How do people use "brands" and how are they created? The word Watergate automatically tells a story, and Contragate definitely reinforced the association between "gate" and administration hijinks.
God is Green!
Mon Feb 07, 2005 at 04:50:29 AM PDT
The search is over for the great progressive wedge issue! It's the environment, Stupid!
Church leaders have been talking with God again, and it turns out that God is Green!
Get the Hell out of here, you say! No it's true!
"We affirm that God-given dominion is a sacred responsibility to steward the earth and not a license to abuse the creation of which we are a part," said the statement, which has been distributed to 50,000 member churches. "Because clean air, pure water, and adequate resources are crucial to public health and civic order, government has an obligation to protect its citizens from the effects of environmental degradation."
From now on, take a Bible with you into the Frame Shop. If you want to advocate an issue that's basicially common sense, see if you can find a basis for it in the New Testiment.
Could we get universal health care if we work that "love thy neighbor" deal hard enough?.
Evangelicals, the Counter Reformation, and our Political Danger
Tue Nov 09, 2004 at 06:39:39 AM PDT
A friend of mine likes to say, "serious business requires serious people."
The consequences of failure are serious. The suicide of 25 year old Andrew Viel at the World Trade Center brings home for all of us what we all have at stake in this confrontation. I am certain that I am not the only one who has strongly contemplated following his decisive leadership.
I cannot get the image out of my mind of the scene from Ghandi where hundreds of Hindus resolutely line up at the gates of the British Empire to have their skills split open by their mercinary Sikh countryman.
We in the United States will never attain the discipline of nonviolent protest that emmanates from the highest chakra. But we should aspire to it.
Vanderbei's Purple America
Sat Nov 06, 2004 at 01:23:36 PM PDT
Well I finally pulled out of my funk with a little help from my friends. Actually with a lot of help, but that's not how the song goes.
I am very fortunate to have friends who refuse to lose hope and who do everything they can to realign the framework so that you can see things in perspective. I've resolved to pass their help to others.
When I first saw Robert Vanderbie's Purple America, sent to me by a friend, I didn't realize the significance of what I was looking at. The color purple just made me think about how much it cost us to have gays on our little foundering raft. Fortunately the backlash was temporary and localized to my person. I am completely restored to my faith in humanism. I blogged the (slow) progress of my understanding of Vanderbie's map here.
The Nation Endorses Kerry
Sun Oct 31, 2004 at 05:14:39 AM PDT
I'm done. I know who I am voting for and all my friends are crying for mercy from the barrage of my pep rally artillary. We are one.
Relax. Meditate. Grok the oneness of the democratic party.
