The Bush Administration's Assault on Civil Liberties (Part 1)

For me, the worst aspect of this Administration has been its relentless attack on civil liberties. It seems that every time I check the news, I find another way they've chipped away at the essential freedoms Americans have enjoyed for over 200 years.
I'm sure a summary and analysis of the civil liberties violations by the Administration has been carried out before, but I feel that it is worth refreshing, if only because of the tremendous importance liberty has played in this country's history.
NB: In writing this, I found enough information to fill several books. I know that in trying to keep it brief, I've left out some information, but I have tried to provide as many referenes as possible. If I've left anything out, please let me know and I'll correct it as soon as I can. I have decided to release it in 2 parts, one today and one next Friday, to avoid posting a 10 page diary.
