Al Gore: "I heart animals! They taste good."
Tue Jul 22, 2008 at 03:37:15 AM PDT
Ok, it's paraphrased. Actually, I saw that bumper sticker 10 years ago while walking into a steakhouse in Nashville, TN. (You know the place, peanut-shell strewn floors & wait staff jossling each other to hand demo-tapes to the biz pigs in the corner booth.) So it's no wonder that my fav enviro-savior Al Gore cops to being a part of the problem when it comes to eating meat unrepentantly. Here's how Al responded to a question from Orange Cloud at Netroots Nation last weekend (1st round of questions, 3/4 the way thru the Cspan video).
It is true it would be healthier for us individually & the planet if we consumed less meat. ...I myself am a meat eater and maybe that has had an impact on my definition of the problem.
Yes, he knows the sizzle in that steak bears a heavy carbon-load. Follow me over the fold to find out what meat eaters like me and Al, and even you can do about it...
Al's challenge: How Tennessee can help
Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 03:36:10 PM PDT
Let's see, Tennessee. So, we're not the Saudi Arabia of wind. Even counting every square inch of our rocky hillside, we can't generate as much sun-soaked thermal solar energy as 92 miles squared in the desert South-West would. Our Tennesse Valley Authority produces most of it's electricity not with hydroelectric power as is commonly thought, but with some of the dirtiest coal plants in the nation.
So how can Tennessee help meet favorite son Al Gore's challenge of producing an inspiring 100% of our nation's electrity with clean & renewable sources? Maybe getting our republican politicians out of the way in Washington would be Step Zero.
Follow me below the fold for a plan I just discovered that looks like a road map that every Tennessean, red, blue, or purple, can use to turn green...

here's the email sent from the We campaign before the speech
Dear M,
Something important is happening tomorrow.
In a speech in Washington, DC, Nobel Laureate and Former Vice President Al Gore will issue a major challenge, essentially pressing the "reset" button on how we think about energy and climate, and how we can create prosperity in America.
His speech will generate a great deal of attention. Since you are a We campaign member, we wanted to make sure you heard about it in advance. We'll email you when we've posted the video highlights, action steps and other resources -- so stay tuned for breaking news!
The ABYSMAL TV-media coverage of the CA fires is pissing me off
Mon Oct 22, 2007 at 02:29:05 PM PDT
Thanks to the dedicated live-bloggers here at DKos, we have a fuller picture of reality in SoCal today. Not so for those watching CNN, MSNBC, et al on their cable today. Don't get me wrong, the "breaking" banner is all over the place: school sex predators, mystery packages at Dulles, & oh yeah, that quarter million folks forced out of their homes by raging fires that will likely burn all the way to the sea by the time the abnormally strong Santa Ana winds slow down tomorrow. Yeah, that's news too. Now back to Britney & Kid Rock...
What can we do about it? Follow me over the fold...
Gore Walks His Talk, Most Cannot See the Path
Wed Oct 17, 2007 at 09:12:10 AM PDT
Last Sunday I had a brief conversation with a young man, 14 years old? He saw my Gore bumper stickers, that I offer free in my booth at the art show. He broke away from his family to come back & ask me about my support of Gore. Of course, his prioritizing of the climate crisis, experience, and leadership was my answer. But wasn't Gore "politicizing Global Warming, making it harder to get things done?" he rejoined. A pause from me, taking into account his age & earnestness. "But what's politics all about?" I asked. "What is it but a way to have our say? That's how it is supposed to work here in our democracy. A chance to make decisions, decide what to do, how to do it, to make policy." He listened. I asked "Do you think 'politics' is a bad thing? It seems that way these days. But it doesn't have to be, it shouldn't be. It's supposed to be our way of governing ourselves." The young man was called away to catch up with his family, but the opportunity to pull back to the big picture has stayed with me. Follow me over the fold if you like...
Urgent action: stop new coal plant
Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 08:37:59 AM PDT
A new coal gasification plant is on it's way, unless we take the time to join together to stop it.
This proposed Coal Gasification Plant will release 3.9 million tons of CO2 annually! Plans for the $2billion project do not include carbon capture and sequestration.
Today we can rise to the challenge and fight global warming. The efforts of Citizens Action Coalition, caused the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to reopen the Duke Coal Gasification Plant case, holding a public hearing in Bloomington on August 29th.
The impact of CO2 emissions from a new coal plant is not just a state issue. The problem is truly a national and global issue as the consequences of global warming affects us all.
Make the jump to find out how you can write a simple letter that will affect the out come of the hearing to be held this Wednesday, August 29th...
Enraged, I find the Intestinal Fortitude to Write a Diary
Sat Jan 20, 2007 at 03:03:50 PM PDT
What to do when you finally admit your own family has fallen prey to the most vile of brain-washings? Write a diary about it!
This is the email forwarded to me from my cousin, apparently to alert me to the existence of a terrorist (formerly known as Senator Barack Obama):
To all independents, rank and file democrats, liberals, and uberliberals, and to all who simply are uninformed: pay close attention to the following message and keep this in mind 2 years from now when it's time to vote again. It pays to be ultra careful who we elect to high office in this day and age. We can no longer blindly and stupidly afford to elect somebody we don't know simply based on sex, charisma or their "good" looks -- like we did in the '90's.
P.S. FYI: Madame Hillary also announced her candidacy just this morning, too.

Barack Hussein Obama...Presidential Candidate?
Interesting!!!
Barack Hussein Obama - Presidential Candidate?
Barack Hussein Obama is an apostate Muslim. He was educated in madrassas in Hawaii and Indonesia from an early age, up until high school.
