AT&T hates our soldiers
Thu Mar 09, 2006 at 05:11:35 AM PDT
It's bad enough that they overcharge domestic customers but we have alternatives. The soldiers don't because, according to The Prepaid Press, AT&T has an EXCLUSIVE contract to put payphones in PBXes in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But, you ask, can't the soldiers get cheap calling cards to call the US? No! Because AT&T is using (abusing!) its position as monopoly supplier of payphones to block the 800 numbers necessary to use nonAT&T calling cards.
This blocking is illegal in the US but, AT&T told our friend Gene Retske, editor of The Prepaid Press, the rules are different in Iraq. Right.

Finally, a new GYWO is out
Wed Oct 26, 2005 at 08:01:07 AM PDT

GYWO have been described as "Dilbert for a Post-9/11 World", and I have been waiting to see what they would have to say about Harriet Miers and the bird flu. They certainly didn't disappoint.
So, for those who haven't seen the latest G.Y.W.O installment (number 50), i direct your attention thusly.
Ann Coulter clobbered

From

--------------------------------------
In a recent interview with the investigative CBC news program, The Fifth Estate, Ann Coulter was put on the hot seat by Bob McKeown, a serious news journalist. In discussing the war in Iraq, Coulter tried to tell McKeown that Canada used to be an ally of the U.S. when they sent troops to Vietnam. Of course, Coulter is wrong but refused to back down. McKeown did what any serious reporter would do: He clobbered her.

Jesus speaks through the Republicans
Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 02:59:58 AM PDT
Quite possibly the best letter to the editor, EVER.
"I hope the election of George W. Bush is seen as a wake-up call to all the liberal Democrats who oppose God's will.
It is His doing that George W. Bush is still our president. Millions of born-again Christians helped win this election through our prayers and votes. Jesus speaks through the Republicans.
The Democrats will not be able to win elections until they renounce their sinful ways and stop encouraging abortions, gayness, and trying to take away our guns."

Ten weeks undercover in the grass roots of the Republican Party - MUST READ!
Fri Oct 15, 2004 at 09:05:06 AM PDT
"Nobody wears T-shirts that mean something, and nobody looks cool. As I would later find out, most Republicans hate "cool" ("They all think they're so cool and artistic," griped one woman as she watched Fox coverage of Democratic delegates arriving in Boston). Many of the parent volunteers I met were especially bitter because they think that cool is what liberals use to lure their children away. Which they might very well be right about, of course.
In my first month on the campaign, I did not meet many people who came into the office with the serious intention of working hard for the president. I did, however, meet a great many very lonely people who came in because they knew the Bush offices were the one place where they could share certain deeply held ideas without being ridiculed."
oh my god - it's just fascinating: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/_/id/6539082?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=single7&rn

Australian election called: Conservatives win
Sat Oct 09, 2004 at 02:25:07 AM PDT

They not only win, but they win a historic FOURTH
term in parliament, and we STAY in the Grand Coalition. While the Australian people may be:
- against the war in iraq,
- againt the government's policy on jailing refugees hospitals
- for a health system for all
- for giving public schools a greater share of public money than private schools
... we like our low interest rates more (this was the ONLY issue the incumbant John Howard campaigned on.)

What a heap of bullshit - the latest wingnut email

"The other day, my nine-year-old son wanted to know why we were at war. My husband looked at our son and then looked at me. My husband and I were in
the Army during the Gulf War and we would be honored to serve and defend our Country again today. I knew that my husband would give him a good explanation."

And he certainly did. Read on for the latest and most gut-wrenchingly manipulative, dishonest hypocritical piece of garbage you'll ever see.
the ad kerry needs to run
Tue Aug 31, 2004 at 05:49:02 AM PDT
people have been saying that kerry needs to attack bush's perceived strengths -- the war on terror -- and debunk his handling of that, instead of going after the stuff most people already know about, namely: he's an idiot.
after reading kos'
article about the bush's biggest flip-flop, when he said he didn't believe the war on terror was not winnable, i came up with this idea for an ad that i think kerry needs to run that might make people think twice about bush's handling of the situation.
it looks a whole lot like a dignified republican ad, except for the ENDING... now read and imagine:
scene 1, bush: "WE WILL WIN THE WAR ON TERROR"
scene 2, bush: "WE WILL PREVAIL"
scene 3, bush: "WE MUST WIN"
scene 4, bush: "you know what, i don't think it's winnable" - sound of needle scratching off a record... the soundtrack reversing... and then we hear it again: "you know what, i don't think it's winnable"
scene 5, fade out/voice over: "america can do better."
scene 6, text: "KERRY/EDWARDS 04"

Baubles, daggers, meat on 2003 White House gift list
AUGUST 4--Three hundred pounds of lamb. A $12,000 Franck Muller watch. Christian Dior after-shave lotion. A Lady McDuffies gourmet lemon cheesecake. Those are just a few of the fabulous gifts received last year by the Bush family from foreign leaders, according to a list released this week by the Department of State's Office of Protocol (below you'll find excerpts from the 52-page report). It will probably come as no surprise that the most valuable gift came from Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdallah, who gave First Lady Laura Bush a matching set of diamond and sapphire jewelry valued by U.S. officials at $95,500. The Saudi royal also gave the president an $8500 mantel clock and the "first family" (that would be first daughters Jenna and Barbara) received Bulgari necklaces valued at $8500 and $8000 apiece.

reuters is
reporting:
AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader sued Texas on Monday after failing to collect the signatures required to put him on the state's presidential ballot.
although i am quite pleased about this, where the hell were the republicans? you'd think they'd mobilize at least a few resources to help nader qualify for texas?
