From Voracity to Veracity.

WELCOME TO "THE 'CULT' OF IN YOUR FACE!"
I was just watching Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer and David Brooks. And, it was an interesting study of Brooks "talking down" to Obama supporters in a kind of lame-but-paternal manner. In short, if I could take a little license and paraphrase him, he was calling us (Obama supporters) a little cultish, a little too intense; in short he was saying: Lighten up a bit. Stop acting 'cultish.' Stop being the 'ones you've been waiting for,' since that literally/really means: 'You've been waiting for yourself.' (For a moment, I even chuckled at Brooks' comment.)

I understand that. (When you're a vociferous supporter of a cause, whatever it is, it can turn other folks off. Hell, the opposition is now exploiting this depth of support of Obama's supporters versus McCain's supporters, attempting to spin it--more like grossly contort it--into a negative via a satirical t.v. commercial, where they compare Obama with visuals of Charlton Heston in his role as Moses.)

The Dem V.P.: "...it's what you don't say."

Thu Jul 31, 2008 at 11:01:02 AM PDT

After following the speculation on Obama's V.P. selection efforts of late, and then reading comments by Jerome at MyDD (Clinton not V.P.?) and Jeralynn at TalkLeft (Is Kaine a Smokescreen for Kathleen Sebelius?) today, I'm going to go out on a limb (wouldn't be the first time; and it won't be the first time if commenters to this diary saw it off, either) and suggest that what Jerome inferred at the very end--in an update--to his post today may be a reality:

"Jeralyn is wondering whether Kaine is a smokescreen for Sebelius. I highly doubt it, but maybe for someone else.

Is there a dark horse in the Democratic V.P. race?  (I say yes, there is...see below the fold.)

7/21/08: Wherein Rove and McCain are breaking campaign laws.

Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 01:51:31 PM PDT

Cross-posted from MyDD.

BACKGROUND.
Todd Beeton, whose work I've come to respect immensely here on MyDD, has another great piece running at the top of this blog (as I post this diary) entitled: "McCain: Obama To Blame For High Gas Prices."

THE REALITY: McCAIN'S CAMPAIGN IS NOW VIOLATING A SLEW OF CAMPAIGN LAWS.
Regrettably, for all intents and purposes, this particular McCain ad "flight" represents a slap in the face to every law-abiding individual that's ever run for office in this country (regardless of party affiliation).  Oddly enough, James Carville and David Plouffe have been speaking up about this--at least in Plouffe's case--for about eight years.

You see, as even a ten-year-old would would interpret the current campaign finance laws in the U.S., what the McCain camp is now doing, as far as their advertising is concerned,  is illegal.

The 2008 Presidential Campaign History You Didn't Know.

"The only thing new in the world is the history we don't know."

--President Harry Truman

BACKGROUND
About a week ago, I penned a couple of back-to-back diaries entitled: "2008's Grand Masters of GOP Dirty Tricks", and "A Preview Of GOP Racism In The Fall?" Please take a look at these if you haven't read them already, if for no other reason than the fact that they contain more than ample links to support everything I'm stating in this diary.

In those previous diaries, I reviewed how well-versed the folks running the 2008 GOP and 501(c)4-based neoconservative media strategies were at dirty tricks, general skullduggery and skirting the law (and sometimes breaking the law and then being jailed for their nefarious actions, too). However, what I've learned over the past few days is that there's actually a documented history of deep contempt over GOP campaign and election abuses, spanning many years, specifically between David Plouffe, Barack Obama's campaign manager, and the very folks running the show over for the GOP this year.  It's quite a story...

Now, this is too funny!

Yesterday, we had this quintessentially incredible irony:

"Breaking: Incredibly f**ked health insurance story!"

But, today, it's true hilarity!

When will they stop lying about the economy?

Mon Jul 07, 2008 at 01:29:09 AM PDT

Everything "we know" about our economy really is wrong.

The U.S. gov't is grossly distorting our country's financial realities to us, via publicized statistical reports, on a regular basis.

NEW INFORMATION SUPPORTS THIS REALITY.
At least as far as the Consumer Price Index (i.e.: inflation and cost of living statistics) is concerned.  A story running on this (Monday) morning's Bloomberg.com confirms this.  In the article, a variety of comments from throughout the business community supports the reality that the Consumer Price Index ("CPI") statistics that we hear from our government are little more than fiction.

A Preview Of GOP Racism In The Fall?

Sat Jul 05, 2008 at 06:50:26 PM PDT

After doing some research and general digging concerning the background info on some of the key field operatives and organizations supporting the GOP effort this year, I've come to the conclusion that it's just all so damn UGLY--the more I read the worse it gets--I'm to the point where I don't know where to begin.

Yesterday, I blogged about "2008's Grand Masters Of GOP Dirty Tricks," ( in advance, I ask your forgiveness for any unintended appearance of diary pimping; my sincere goal here is to get some specific realities up on everyone's radar now, in preparation for what lies ahead)  and today I wanted to drill a little deeper on that theme with regard to my concerns about planned and/or potential Republican "caging," voter suppression and any overall, generally racist efforts that we will most likely see supported by those camps in coming weeks and months.

For now, I'd like to focus on the McCain campaign in the always-critical states of Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Specifically, I'd like to zero in on the two or three people that have been put in place by the McCain operation to head those states' efforts for the GE.

2008's Grand Masters of GOP Dirty Tricks

Fri Jul 04, 2008 at 02:04:21 PM PDT

The de facto reality is, this cycle, the GOP is reverting to media and robo-calling campaigns produced and implemented by a group of folks with known connections to, among other things: 1.) convicted felons, jailed for implementing dirty campaign tactics, as well as, 2.) serial violators of basic FEC regulations.

Comment from a New Jersey blog on convicted GOP felon, Allen Raymond,  author of "How to Rig an Election: Confessions of a Republican Operative."

"As for his three months in a Pennsylvania prison, he wrote: 'After 10 full years inside the GOP, 90 days among honest criminals wasn't really any great ordeal.' "

When "everything you know" is wrong.

Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 12:04:19 AM PDT

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG. PART I.
As the volume becomes amplified on our quickly-worsening economic realities, it should come as little surprise to many reading this blog that most of what we read, see and hear from our government, our "experts," and our politicians about the economy, labor/unemployment, the cost of living,  inflation, the national debt, etc., etc., is just plain false.

Please read this previous sentence again.

July 4th Liquidation Sale! Everything Must Go!

Tue Jul 01, 2008 at 10:13:32 PM PDT

Everyone's certainly witnessing first-hand (everytime they go to the supermarket or fill their gas tank) about what's in store for us as far as the economy's concerned in upcoming weeks and months, between now and Election Day, and beyond.

I talk with friends and business associates about the state of the economy all the time, as I'm sure many of you do, as well.

Apparently, what hits home the most, when I bring this up--aside from everyone getting nailed with higher consumer prices--is when I tell them to take a look around in their communities. I ask them: "What would happen to their towns, their friends, their jobs, and their friends' jobs if the following companies no longer existed?

"Deflation." (What we're not being told by the U.S. MSM.)

Mon Jun 30, 2008 at 10:24:35 PM PDT

I've been reading everything I can get my hands on with regard to our current economic mess, and it's all bad. Just about as bad as it could possibly get....or as bad as it will get in coming months.

You'll be hearing this word a lot in coming days and weeks: DEFLATION.

Essentially, what many--just about everyone that matters IMHO--are saying is that we're going to go through a period of rather intense inflation (some are calling it hyperinflation) which will be followed by an extended period of deflation. There's a rather clear consensus building on this--despite those espousing the current administration's double-speak regarding the economy now--I might add.

Looking for a precise definition of the word, "deflation," the best definition I could find for it was, in of all places, at the website for the Elliot Wave Theorist. But, more about that in a bit.

6/30/08: wherein the U.S. economy enters a Depression

Mon Jun 30, 2008 at 02:10:03 AM PDT

In case you missed the news--which has been reported everywhere but here over the past 72 hours--for all intents and purposes, the United States is entering into a period of economic Depression as of the start of the third quarter of 2008, tomorrow.

This is not one or two folks or entities saying this. Over the past few days, there are dozens of highly-respected organizations throughout the world all concurrently coming to the same conclusion. And, as of this morning (see links at the end of this diary), when stories start running on Bloomberg acknowledging this, one could say it's the real thing.

We're toast. (Please pass the butter and jam.)

The quickly-approaching light; time to change our agenda.

Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 01:23:28 PM PDT

The quickly-approaching light at the end of our tunnel this election cycle is a turbocharged, nuclear-powered locomotive, the likes of which we've never seen. It will arrive at our station well before we cast our votes in November.

The headlines of the past 48 hours spell it all out (see below the fold). Unfortunately, many of those headlines were with regard to stories published outside the U.S.

Unbeknownst to the majority of U.S. society, due to a total lack of responsible reporting of the facts by the MSM, it is now self-evident to this diarist that the sky really is falling.

Booman and Klein Get It Right on Israel and Iran!

Sat Jun 28, 2008 at 08:27:12 AM PDT

Democratic triangulation at its very best!

Over the past day, we now have some stunningly awesome triangulation from both Joe Klein (of all people) and Booman, echoing this diarist's sentiments about everything that's soooo wrong with the Lieberman-led neoconservative/far-right-Christian-zionist/Rethug sentiments concerning support for Israel and conflating it with their mantra as to why we should go to war with Iran.

Read Booman's greater-than-great diary right here, entitled: "Joe Klein, ADL, AIPAC and Foreign Policy" for the real deal with regard to where the majority of Jewish Dems really stand on these matters, today!

"That crazy Jewish billionaire."

Thu Jun 26, 2008 at 12:06:34 AM PDT

Every Democrat in the United States should know precisely whom we're running against this year. In my opinion, it's really not John McCain and the GOP. It's Karl Rove's and Ari Fleischer's current boss, "Sheldon Adelson III," the wealthiest gambling entrepreneur in the U.S., and the person Forbe's Magazine has listed as the third richest man in America. It is Adelson's deep pockets that are behind Freedom's Watch, the 501(c)4 organization that's pouring upwards of $250 million into issues media in support of Republican congressional candidates and John McCain's candidacy this year. NOTE: the influence of 501(c)4's over our election results this year will probably be as big as, or bigger than, 527 influence on the outcome of our 2000 and 2004 elections--with one major difference: contributions to 501(c)4's have little or no regulatory requirements as far as public disclosure is concerned!

There's an outstanding piece about Adelson in the latest edition (June 30th, 2008 edition) of the New Yorker, "The Brass Ring. A multibillionaire's relentless quest for global influence," by Connie Bruck. It's a must read for all progressives serious about victory in November, too.

Kosher Pork Bankrolling McCain and GOP Campaigns?

Sun Jun 22, 2008 at 03:17:07 AM PDT

DISCLOSURE: Before I begin, a little disclosure. First off, I'm a former Clinton supporter; now I'm an Obama supporter, as of June 4th. Second, I'm a Jew and I support our government's support of the State of Israel. Third, like millions of Jews in the U.S. and Israel, I'm strongly against the Israeli government's hardline approach as far as its dealings with the Arab community--and the Palestinian issues in general--are concerned. Fourth, my father-in-law, who passed away in 2005, ran the Mideast desk of the U.S. Army's Defense Logistics Command during the Yom Kippur War. As a result of that--as you'll read in more detail below--he was very much on the front line of Operation Nickel Grass in 1973. So, please be clear here when I say I am in favor of our country's ongoing support of Israel as far as military materiel assistance is concerned.

The Progressive: "Obama No"

Fri May 02, 2008 at 08:44:08 PM PDT

Adolph Reed, Jr., whom Katha Pollitt, of Mother Jones Magazine has called: "the smartest person of any race, class, or gender writing on race, class, and gender"  delivers a brutally scathing assessment of the Obama Presidential campaign in the May, 2008 issue of The Progressive Magazine, entitled, "Obama No."

Here's Reed's opening paragraph from The Progressive piece:

Breaking: Wright Throws Obama Under The Bus!

Fri Apr 25, 2008 at 02:57:03 AM PDT

Paraphrasing David Gergen--my pick for the most credible and truly objective pundit anywhere--on CNN late Thursday, 'Jeremiah Wright has chosen the absolute worst time (over the next few days) to decide to come out in his own defense.'

Here's the transcript from CNN tonight, with regard to what will be the first in a series of major press events in which Wright finally speaks up. Those start airing today. Clips from a Bill Moyers' interview with Wright to be aired on PBS tonight were shown at the top of the news hour Thursday evening, around 8:00PM, on CNN.
