To the Leaders of the DEM Party, I am not a Hostage!
Thu Mar 13, 2008 at 06:51:40 PM PDT
Leaders of the Democratic Party,
As an active member of your Party, I write to you to express my disappointment with and disgust for your current inaction regarding the Clinton campaign’s efforts to drag this election into the gutter. If you won’t "reject and denounce" Hillary Clinton and her surrogates actions since January, then you will find that a strong majority of real Democrats will reject and denounce you.
"Being President of this country is entirely about character!"

Remember the speech in the movie American President, where Andrew Shepard (Michael Douglas) calls out his rival for the presidency, Bob Rumson (Richard Dreyfus)? I saw the movie again recently and found it uncannily similar to this year’s race. With just a few tweaks, it can be used against both McCain and Clinton, in the same powerful way that it was used in the movie.
The original screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin who also wrote "A Few Good Men" and the TV Series "The West Wing", and many other outstanding efforts.
The link to the original text of that speech in the movie.

How to decide between X, Y and Z? Taking the long term view.
Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 08:00:37 AM PDT
Let’s change the tact of the conversation here in the candidate wars for a moment. Let’s look at the arguments made for the candidates, and see where they ultimately may lead. Think long term, what will happen after the GE. How will the each of the candidates get us to the results we're after?
Bill Clinton defends the Nevada NEA Lawsuit
Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 12:05:42 PM PDT
Since this issue can't be construed as "racial", I'm allowed to comment, am I not? And if this has already be diaried, I couldn't find it.
Once again, the win-at-all-cost campaign is doing their best spin on their efforts to dis-enfranchise possible voters, as long as those voters might not cast their votes for the Clintons. Instead of denouncing the lawsuit as many Kossacks have asked Hilary to do, we have instead the Big Dog defending it! Yes, stating that everyone should play be the same rules. What hypocracy. When did the Clintons ever play by the rules?
Every time the Clintons come out on an issue, they're on the wrong side!
The DLC is the enemy, remember?
Sat Jan 12, 2008 at 10:49:00 AM PDT
Not all that long ago, most mentions of the DLC on this site were greeted with derision. Lots of diaries and front page posts on why the DLC was bad for the Democratic Party. Since there's one Presidential candidate who's married to the DLC, why isn't that candidate being made to answer for it? How can so many people on this site support the DLC candidate? Yes, even one who previously wrote a wonderful diary titled "The DLC hates Kos, Dean, and has nearly ruined the Democratic Party".

Why we love the man...
Wed Dec 19, 2007 at 05:14:58 PM PDT
Ever wonder why those of us who support Barack Obama are so passionate and committed? Do we agree with every position, statement? No, at least I don't. Can I quote 3 sources to answer every criticism? No, I can't. But I came across a Huffington Post article that states my feelings in a way that I wish you would all consider.
This is a candidate diary, but a positive one. I want to promote this excellent article by Bob Cesca, as he's much more eloquent that I. You can find it at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...
What criteria will make you decide to vote for one Candidate over another?

Someone asked me recently why I was going to support one Democratic candidate over another... I really had a hard time coming up with the "Laundry List" of why Candidate X would be my choice.
Since the announcement that Candidate Clinton would be a choice this morning, and reading the many pro and con diaries and comments here a dKos, I decided to try to really educate myself on the issues and where each Candidate stands. I found the "On the Issues" site listed above, after many Google searches.
Please take advantage of this resource for yourselves. It lists all the potential Candidates (both Democratic and Republican) and shows articles about their views on issues of many categories, their voting records, and their VoteMatch scorings and ranking on the issues.

Dear Former President Bush:
I’m writing today to express my sympathy for your personal predicament, my appreciation for your service to our Country and to request your assistance in ending the nightmare that our Country is enduring because of the many decisions made by your son, the current President.
Every parent wants to feel pride in the accomplishments of their children. Every parent wants to be supportive, assisting the child in making the most of their private and public lives. You must be in agony, watching your eldest son stumble his way into the history books as a failure. You have my empathy. However, I hope that you will, once again, think of what’s best for our Country as I ask you to help us prevent your son’s Administration from driving us toward a worldwide conflict.
An Important message from a Iraq Vet

I received this eMail today from Move-on, asking me to participate in the Call for Change program. I had already made calls throughout last week, but this will just triple my efforts. Please read and distribute! Her words are a call to arms against this corrupt, criminal administration and their corporate cronies! VOTE!
A picture is worth a thousand words (and music only makes it better).

Aren't we missing an opportunity to present our message to millions of people? Why hasn't someone started a Channel or Group on YouTube that the dKos community (and other like minded sites) could contribute to? I see lots of links to different YouTube material everyday on all the progressive blogs, but it's really a hit or miss thing. Finding good relevant material on the YouTube site is next to impossible. Let's help them out, and organize! Use the new digital tools to reach out to Voters, and have it all in one place.
According to Wikipedia:
At present, YouTube is one of the fastest-growing websites on the World Wide Web,[7] and is ranked as the 10th most popular website on Alexa, far outpacing even MySpace's growth.[8] According to a July 16, 2006 survey, 100 million clips are viewed daily on YouTube, with an additional 65,000 new videos uploaded per 24 hours. The site has almost 20 million visitors each month, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.
W and the Golden Rule
Thu Sep 14, 2006 at 05:43:59 PM PDT
My mother and father taught me from earliest childhood to "follow the Golden Rule". While many different sources, from biblical passages to ethical treatises, express it in many different ways, the quote in our house was "do unto others as you would have other do unto you." When my siblings and I transgressed this rule, we were punished by suffering the offending behavior ourselves. We quickly took these lessons to heart, and found comfort and ease in our relationships with others, our sense of self, and the world in general.
