Bob Barr's PAC's 5% Problem
Mon May 19, 2008 at 08:27:15 AM PDT
Bob Barr's PAC, The Bob Barr Leadership Fund, is showing how Republicans and former Republicans really lead. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, BBLF has actually donated less than 5% of the 4.3 million dollars it has received in donations since 2003.
$125,000 went to federal campaigns and $81,875 state and local campaigns. The other $4,093,125 went to fund raising efforts.
"It costs money to raise money," Barr said.
Yeah, Georgia Still Has its Racists!
Tue May 13, 2008 at 06:04:38 AM PDT
Cobb bar protested as racist for Obama T-shirts - from the AJC.
Marietta tavern owner Mike Norman says the T-shirts he's peddling, featuring cartoon chimp Curious George peeling a banana, with "Obama in '08" scrolled underneath, are "cute." But to a coalition of critics, the shirts are an insulting exploitation of racial stereotypes from generations past.
...
Norman said those offended are "hunting for a reason to be mad" and insisted he is "not a racist."

I Was Galloped Polled!
Sat Feb 02, 2008 at 12:27:57 PM PDT
Got a phone call minutes ago from Gallup! They were asking about my quality of life and presidential questions. I got on their list a while back answering a poll about the local newspaper and have been waiting years for a presidential poll! Finally!

Clinton and Edwards will be speaking. Max Cleland and John Lewis will be honored. Can you dress nice and behave respectably? Email me at gttim where the mail is hot!
Redstate.com Columnist is AJC
Tue Sep 11, 2007 at 09:28:32 AM PDT
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution printed an opinion piece by Jeff Emmanuel of Redstate.com. It was about how we should support Bush's surge because it is working. His evidence:
In April and May of this year, and again from the beginning of August through the present, I have been embedded in some of the most kinetic combat zones in Iraq, observing Gen. David Petraeus' strategy from the ground level in several different locations. I have seen clear evidence of the strategy's effects on the situation there
Liberman: "Call me a Democrat!"
Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 09:59:27 AM PDT
I'll call him many other things.
WASHINGTON - Sen. Joe Lieberman, who won re-election as an independent, has a message for his Senate colleagues in the next Congress: Call me a Democrat.
The three-term Connecticut lawmaker defied party leaders when he launched his independent bid after losing to Democrat Ned Lamont in the August primary. During the campaign, he vowed to be an "independent-minded Democrat" if he were re-elected. In Tuesday's election, Lieberman won strong GOP support and given the closely divided Senate, Republicans are expected to court him.
So will he count as a Democrat or an independent who caucuses with the majority Democrats? In an e-mail message late Thursday, Lieberman spokesman Dan Gerstein said the senator will begin his new term as a Democrat.
They Can't Make A Paper Trail?
Tue Oct 17, 2006 at 06:04:06 AM PDT
I went to my local ATM this morning to deposit s check I have had sitting around the house. I never have to deposit a paycheck in person, so I rarely deposit any checks.
I get to this new fangled ATM that has suddenly appeared at my bank. IT is bright red. I look all over for envelopes, and they have none. I am getting pissed off thinking, "They have new freaking ATM machines, but they can't send a guy out to re-supply the envelopes? Then I see a big sing saying "No Envelope Needed!"
Wow!

Of course I had to answer....
Dead People Can Legally Vote In Georgia!
Thu Sep 21, 2006 at 06:42:01 AM PDT
Georgia's new photo ID voting law that is supposed to protect our ballot boxes? Well, it also changed the law so that dead people can legally vote by absentee ballot. And at no time does the dead person ever need to show an ID!
Jay Bookman of the AJC explains:
And yes, HB 244 allows dead people to vote. Under previous law, if someone voted via absentee ballot but died before Election Day, that vote wouldn't be counted. But no longer. HB 244 struck that language, so that today, the votes of dead Georgians still count.
GA: Losing Democratic Gubernatorial Campaign Chair Endorses Republican.

Dan Ponder Jr., a Democrat-turned-Republican state lawmaker who Cathy Cox asked to lead her bid to be the Democratic nominee for Governor has
endorse Republican incumbent Sonny Perdue in the general election over the Democratic nominee, current Lt. Governor Mark Taylor.
First, I was rather shocked that Cathy Cox asked a Republican to lead her failed bid to be the Democratic nominee. Okay, maybe I was not that surprised. After all she is the Secretary of State that brought the Diebold voting machine into Georgia and remained adamantly opposed to any type of paper trail, until late in her campaign.
Sarandon down on Hillary
Fri Mar 17, 2006 at 08:17:32 AM PDT
Susan Sarandon is having some of the same feelings I am concerning Hillary. From
NY Post:
March 17, 2006 -- SUSAN Sarandon doesn't think Sen. Hillary Clinton belongs in the White House. "I find Hillary to be a great disappointment," the lefty actress tells More magazine. "She's lost her progressive following because of her caution and centrist approach. It bothered me when she voted for the war. There were brave people who didn't. She's not worse than other politicians, but I hoped she would be better. What America is looking for is authentic people who want to go into public service because they strongly believe in something, not people who are [just] trying to get elected."

Max Cleland not injured in Vietnam (JJ Dinner, Atl)
Mon Mar 13, 2006 at 07:48:03 PM PDT
Max Cleland spoke at tonight's Democratic Party of Georgia's Jefferson Jackson Dinner. He actually awarded the Hope Award to a Georgia Democrat. His second standing ovation was when he let us in on a little secret. He said, as closely as I can remember:
"I am going to let you in on a secret. For years I have said I was injured in Vietnam. That is not true. I actually was duck hunting with Dick Cheney...."
His first standing ovation was when he rolled onto the speaker's platform. He is well loved.
More on the dinner...

Yes it is the time of year for
The Weblog Awards! Of course you can go vote for your favorite liberal blogs and all that crap. However, we need to do something very important. I think
TBogg sums it up best:
.....I would encourage everyone to vote for
The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler because I think it represents the best in conservative thought and discourse and I think all of the other conservative blogs should be represented by it.
Go now!
For those not familiar: The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler
AJC's Luckovich has blog.
Mon Oct 17, 2005 at 08:30:39 AM PDT
Revered editorial cartoonist Mick Luckovich has ended up with a blog of sorts on the AJC. He doesn't write, and explains that he two finger types, so do not expect capital letters because they take too long. However, the blog is allowing people to comment directly about his cartoons. Needless to say the wingnuts are out in full force.
You are a leftist leaning twerp with little talent. You need to go back to school for more than just history lessons. You should also take remedial grammar and art lessons. Jimmy Carter is the worst US president. He was clueless and powerless when faced with the Iranian Hostage situation. I also remember double digit inflation and interest rates. Bill Clinton was simply a liar and national joke.
Some highlights below.
GOP Senator Says: Tax cuts will extend economic prosperity
Thu Sep 08, 2005 at 06:29:37 AM PDT
This guest oped column by Republican Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia either the funniest, or the saddest, thing I think I have ever read.
The set-up: The AJC ran an editorial saying government should not continue with tax cuts due to the economic uncertainties surrounding New Orleans. It was titled and sub titled, "No time for tax cuts. Given the uncertainty over Katrina's ultimate cost, government restraint should be the order of the day."
Makes sense. Of course to show equal views, they run this crap from Isackson. The best line?
I feel very strongly that we should continue our nation's unprecedented economic prosperity by making the tax cuts permanent.
Environmental Nightmare for the entire Gulf!
Thu Sep 01, 2005 at 07:54:38 AM PDT
From
MSNBC.com
...The EPA's Kaufman, a designer of the Superfund legislation to clean up toxic waste, said New Orleans and the Gulf Coast face "an absolute catastrophic situation" that will take years to abate.
Louisiana, a center of the oil, gas and chemical industries, "was known for its very weak enforcement regulations," Kaufman said, and there are a number of landfills and storage areas containing "thousands of tons" of hazardous material to be leaked and spread.
"On top of that, you have dead bodies that are going to start to decompose, along with the material that was in industrial and household discharge, sewage, gasoline and waste oil from gas stations," he added. "You've got a witches' brew of contaminated water."
Given New Orleans's desperate straits, recovery teams will not be able to do anything with the toxic mess except pump it into the Gulf of Mexico, ensuring that the contamination will spread to a larger area, he said. "There's just no other place for it."(Emphasis mine)
