No More McCountries
Sun Apr 08, 2007 at 11:39:37 AM PDT
It seems the military industrial complex is once again making that "Feed me Seymore, I'm hungry" call. Not that I'm going to get into a what if psycic hotline prediction about whether or not Bush is going to feed the beast again, but he doesn't seem to have any plans of cutting it off. This blithering glob of predictable swamp muck honestly beleives that we the people are better off supporting the destruction of entire cultures so they can make a few kajillion off the leveled property they'll eventually plant McDonalds and Walmarts on.
Have they considered that most of us would rather drag our nostrils down a cactus than get sucked into another unneccessary quagmire? As for Karl Rove's fat ass, I'm tired of seeing signs in DC restaurants that say "Maximum Occupancy: 80 Patrons OR Karl". Melwood had to write an anti-evil bad guy policy after their last graduating class turned into this administration.
Cops meets Girls Gone Wild

Scum of the week 2-21 award goes to....... Officer Mosmiller of the Anne Arundel County Police. Apparently, the AACo's finest in the "set your wife on fire state" (3 in the last 18 months) have decided to join the fight in the war against women. Mosmiller's Get Out of Jail Free by letting him "cop" a feel program has been suspended as of monday when a teenaged girl filed a complaint against him.
It hit the paper this morning and by lunch, they had to update the article because a number of women have already come forward. Mosmiller is not the only one being investigated. The investigation, sadly enough, will probably go nowhere as he is already out on NO BAIL and welcomed back at work.
Scum of the Week
Fri Feb 16, 2007 at 10:19:40 PM PDT
Maryland police stumbled into an Annapolis Maryland man who spent years raping his step-daughter. Customs stopped him while he was re-entering the country. He continued to rape her throughout her teen years. DNA tests match him to her oldest child. She gave birth to her child when she was only 14.
Just like if he had studied the How to be Abusive handbook, he told her "if you tell, noone will beleive you" and "people will think you are lying". Unfortunately, without that DNA test, he probaby would have been right. He would have had some lawyer "prove" her to be "lying" or a "slut" or "crazy".
For some fucked up reason, these types of defenses are still typical. This story is not unique. Assholes like this guy are way too common. Two more stories below.
No Work No Spending May 1st 2007
Sun Feb 04, 2007 at 07:03:03 PM PDT
"IF TYRANNY AND OPPRESSION COME TO THIS LAND, IT WILL BE IN THE GUISE OF FIGHTING A FOREIGN ENEMY" -- James Madison
tyranny
n 1: a form of government in which the ruler is an absolute
dictator (not restricted by a constitution or laws or
opposition etc.)
2: dominance through threat of punishment and violence
Tyranny has come. It has been disguised so well that roughly 12% of the people are still fooled.
No work, no spending May 1st 2007
Evil Empire - Project for a New American Century
Tue Jan 30, 2007 at 08:30:05 AM PDT
Assuming that this site, that I was pestered for weeks to visit, is more elaborate than a Yes Men project, it unfortunately seems real. I wish I'd seen it (and had a forum on which to spout off about it) and said something 10 years ago when it was hatched.
Project for a New American Century's statement of principles as of 1997
We aim to make the case and rally support for American global leadership.
snip
Our aim is to remind Americans of these lessons and to draw their consequences for today. Here are four consequences:
• we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global
responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future;
• we need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values;
• we need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad;
• we need to accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.
Why I couldn't be a Juror in Scooter's Trial
Wed Jan 24, 2007 at 08:49:16 AM PDT
On January 17th, the AP published the list of questions posed to potential jurors. Link to Lexis-Nexis copy of article here. From these questions, they must be pulling people out of the subway tunnels in NY to be jurors. Oh wait, newpapers make it there too.
Do any of you have feelings or opinions about the Bush administration or any of its policies or actions, whether positive or negative, that might affect your ability to give a former member of the Bush administration a fair trial?
Considering that beleiving that EVERYONE deserves a fiar trial means that you are against bushco the first one is a trick question. Also there's this. Read on, it getts better.
Letter to DUH preznit

Dear dubya,
You are a confoundedly ill-mannered ruffian and a preposterous, grudge-festering piece of excrement attached to a dog's posterior. When you are at a loss for words, your loss is our gain. Your troglodyte like lack of any intelligent civilized thought is living proof that evolution is NOT an efficient process. You are a cruelly fiendish sloven and a decrepit, foul-smelling lamentable mistake by your parents.
I have pulled double-header sweat filled tube socks from my feet that were more charismatic then you with your evil-bad-guy monkey snicker of an excuse for a laugh. A bucket of medical testing animal phlegm has more class then you.
Martin O'Malley's Inaugural Ball
Thu Jan 18, 2007 at 09:43:31 PM PDT
I had never been to an inagural ball before last night. I got there kinda late but I didn't miss everything. It was at the baltimore convention center - the whole place was packed. I wasn't sure what to expect but it wasn't the drab listen to some speeches and snag some food off a buffet table event I had pictured.
This was an all out party. Coming in the door and up the escalator there was a band playing at the end of the entrance room, and another warming up around the corner at the other end. Everybody was dressed to the nines. There were dozens of food booths set up by local restaurants and people crushed around all of them. I don't drink and finding something besides beer or wine was a mission. I had to go up to the third floor and into one of ball rooms and fight my way up to the bar to ask the surprised looking bartender for a coke. There was more live music in the ballroom I was in and though I didn't make it inside all of them I think there were 4 ballrooms
I haven't gone out much in the last three years and the crush was a bit much so I went for a smoke and was going to wander for another 10 minutes or so then dip out. Then our new Governor hit the stage. He rocked it.
This Shit Has Got to STOP
Wed Dec 13, 2006 at 07:17:28 AM PDT
I previously diaried a request for kossacks to contact Maryland legislators about the rash of women in Maryland being killed at the hands of men whom they had previously asked for protection from. The only use coming from too many of these orders (which seem to be denied way too often) are to give the police a head start on where to start an investigation AFTER a murder is committed.
Well it's happened again.
LAUREL, Md. -- Police say the killing of a young mother and her daughter in Laurel Md., Tuesday afternoon may not have been a random act. Investigators believe that 22-year-old Lisa Laverne Brown and her 9-month-old daughter may have been targeted.
According to court documents, on Dec. 1, Brown applied for a temporary peace order against Malik Smartaney, a man who had been dating her mother.
HELP STOP THE KILLINGS IN MARYLAND
Thu Nov 16, 2006 at 12:18:09 PM PDT
The killings in Maryland must end. Another woman has been killed by her ex. Her name was Reina Lynch. She was only 26. At first the police called it "random". A few days after they recieved a call informing them that the killer had confessed, they decided to check the surveilance video.
The killer was the father of one of her children. He had threatened her pior to killing her. This NEEDS TO STOP.
please read on to find out how many of these murders can be prevented.
Thank You Kos.

Thank you for building a bridge over the seemingly insurmountable trench that Republicans spent years digging between voters and TRUE democracy. Thank you for being the most reliable alternanive to the gop noise that spews forth from every network news broadcast on a daily basis. Thank you for making information available for those of us who wanted to be informed voters but were frustrated at every turn of a "news"paper page. Thank you for building the haven where every "macaca" that flies out of gop mouths is exposed.
Personally, I would like to thank you for being the anti-venon that brought me back from oblivious political zombification. Thank you for sharing your power with all the writers here who make so many contributions to exposing the gop for what it is and provide information about candidates who would otherwise be looked over because they are not part of (and usually working against) the rich guy circle jerk that the mainstream media has become.
GOTV - Call To Action NOW
Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 07:48:08 AM PDT
Hook up your printers NOW! While you are reading this, there are hundreds of thousands who aren't. Daily Kos is a GOLD MINE of political info you can distribute to the masses! Find your state, something local, something moving and PRINT IT OUT! Democrats from every district, state, municipality, or anything else that has an election going on are screaming into this virtual canyon hoping that someone who has a common vote will hear them.
There are only 8 spaces on the Recommended list, and it only reaches Kos readers. Find something local (and factual) that grabs you and print it out for your neighbors, co-workers and family members. Go for single women first. If each Kossak gets 5 single women who are provided with acurate information to the voting booth it can turn the elections. Get something that will get their attention. Single women are the largest undecided and too often just don't vote. Don't leave them with the Republican smear-lies in their heads.
please don't forget - local candidates need you too
Sun Oct 22, 2006 at 08:40:55 PM PDT
Federal elections are critical, but please don't forget your local candidates. Sacrificing a donation to a candidate for governor, or state senator, or liberal judge to double up on donations for Congressional candidates can be detrimental to your area as well as the nation.
For example, it is up to a states senate whether or not to ban abortion. A fight against things like this can eventually work their way up to the supreme court, but only after years of battling it's way up. The conservatives on the supreme court are relatively far from retirement.
If your states judges are appointed, they are hand picked by a governor. The right has it's agenda. Another is the Attorney General. They are in charge of deciding which crimes to prosecute. If you are not part of their agenda, they will most likely not be of any help in filing charges if a crime is commited against you.
