NRCC sent me a survey today -- what do I send back?
Thu Mar 13, 2008 at 03:30:25 PM PDT
I donated a few bucks to the USO awhile back. Supporting the troops is a worthy cause.
This got me printed mailing labels with my first name oddly munged (but my address right :) ), and got me put on a lot of other postal mailing lists, all sharing the munged name. Apparently this includes Republican lists (I guess they don't think Democrats support the troops). For the most part, I just throw that crap out.
But today, in the mail, was a "Congressional District Survey"...
February 8th -- Obama, NAFTA, Goolsbee, Canada?
Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 04:02:02 AM PDT
It's February 8th, just after Super Tuesday, before Obama's remarkable winning streak of 11 primaries. NAFTA was mentioned, but was decidedly NOT a big word on the campaign. In fact, Russ Feingold was the biggest person mentioning NAFTA in a campaign context at that time, calling both candidates out for NOT mentioning it, pointing out that it'll be a good thing to talk about once they get to Wisconsin:

"They could both be stronger on trade, a lot stronger," says the senator, who grew up in the auto-making city of Janesville and who has made himself an expert of the trade concerns of factory workers and family farmers. "It could be a very good issue for one of the candidates if they were to really step up on trade."
February 8th was when the Canadian consulate met with Goolsbee...
BREAKING: Hillary attacks Obama on pro-choice again!
Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 07:37:56 PM PDT
It appears Team Hillary using similar fliers to the ones circulated in New Hampshire in Belmont, Massachusetts:
http://home.wickedlocal.com/...
Democrats around Belmont are receiving last minute anti-Obama mailers criticizing the candidate’s voting record while a state Senator in Illinois. The mailers are sent from the Hillary Clinton for President campaign and are similar to mailers sent at the last minute to New Hampshire primary voters. After Clinton won in New Hampshire, many women said the mailer influenced their votes.
The mailer cites a number of controversial votes Obama did not take while serving in the state Senate. Instead of voting Yea or Nay, Obama voted "present," in order to avert taking votes which were perceived as a trap set up for Democratic legislators by the Illinois Republican Party.
Truthchecking stats in recent Granholm-DeVos debate - Granholm wins!

GRANHOLM TELLS TRUTH WITH NUMBERS, DEVOS DISTORTS
http://www.bellevilleview.com/...
is a recent debate between Granholm and DeVos that hasn't gotten too much coverage yet. Instead of happening in front of a TV audience, a reporter is asking them the same questions, apparently in each other's presence judging from the context, and transcribing their responses. There's actually some interesting "back and forth" going on here. In this segment of the debate, they're talking about the economy in Michigan and citing some statistics I hadn't heard of. Let's look at the statistical data they pony up and Google out whether or not they can do math:
DeVos and 527 groups -- violating the rules?
Mon Oct 23, 2006 at 05:58:57 PM PDT
As I understand it, 527s aren't supposed to coordinate with campaigns. Yeah, I can understand where the 527s and the campaigns might use the same hosting provider. www.rga.org (the Republican Governors Association 527 group) and www.devosforgovernor.com are hosted by the same provider, SMARTech, that many Republicans use:
http://www.smartechcorp.net/...
But both DeVos and the RGA are using the same actors in TV ads. As one example:
http://www.rga.org/...
http://www.devosforgovernor.com/...
At what point is the 527 coordinating with the campaign, in violation of 527 rules? Why would DeVos even bother trying to mask DeVos-funded ads as being by a third party? Are there any rules in practice whatsoever? <confused>
MI-GOV: Granholm kept most big 2002 campaign promises, did lots!

DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU WILL DO
There's been a lot of "Granholm promised such-and-such and didn't deliver" criticisms, courtesy of the DeVos campaign. Thanks to the magic of the Interweb, one can easily go back in time. look at what she actually said she'd do when she was elected, and compare to what she did and is doing.
Without further ado, and thanks to archive.org, here is Granholm's plan for Michigan from October 2002:

Quoted here is her overview of what her big action items and plans were at that time, and some commentary on how well she did (or didn't), along with my take on DeVos and the Republicans:
