Nurse at a major metropolitan hospital... Getting married to the love of my life...She is also a nurse...

Samantha Power an unneeded Casualty in this election

Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 10:06:35 AM PDT

She is one of the best minds of my generation on foreign policy. She resigned today as the result of her views that Hillary has become a monster. For the record she said off the record right after saying the comment and the view was printed. She apologized to both senators and later Resigned. She wrote the book below in 03 at age 32.

Her classy exit should not stop her from a post in any democratic administration IMHO. I hold the same view and emailed my congressman that this race IMHO is tearing us apart. Why has it come to this is winning at all cost worth tearing the party apart? For the record I would only vote for Hillary at this point because John Paul and Ruth bader need to retire. What really appalls me at this point is that democratic supporters of the Senator Clinton think this is worth it. The Math does not work and this election helps no one. It helps the GOP it hurts us down ticket. I don't post much anymore things move quick and I post at slower moving places that allow more direct back and fourth these days. I still lurk and post but this upset me a great deal. She had to resign but it hurts the party to have her sidelined IMHO. Heart felt truths can bite you in the ass.. Fuck!!!

Can we be civil? Why do you support your candidate?

Mon Jan 28, 2008 at 09:39:08 AM PDT

I am a pretty old timer who lurks more than posts anymore. I have live the flame wars of 04. The pre-Scoop day around here when Markos had to ask us to help him keep the site going by helping with a new server. The Site has grown to an establishment and it has taken a lot of hard work to do it.

So since we are involved in what will one day be seen as the flame wars of 08 by those who choose to stay on for the long haul at least as lurkers like me. I propose a sorta thought experiment on a couple of questions. I understand the fact that some candidates for what ever reasons people identify with and have strong emotional ties to. This IMHO is normal and good. It shows that you care about the future and the countries direction. It shows that you have certain priorities that one candidate address better than another.

Y-Kos Questions....

Thu Jun 08, 2006 at 01:23:42 PM PDT

I could not attend and understand that some will have live blogging and some parts will be covered by C-Span. My question are we having streaming video or are the panels being recorded and posted to the site or another site? Is their a Y-Kos media component?

For the many thousands of us that are not able to attend but would like to I hope this short dairy and these questions are relevant outside of myself.

So if anyone has more information on this or links please respond.

Thanks and cheers to all that make the trip..

Sun Nov 20, 2005 at 06:19:33 AM PDT

I have little trouble saying that I am not anti-war. I am anti: Stupity and incompetence and well those two about sum it up. I was not infavor of getting rid of saddam at the time we did in the way we did.

As they say all water under the bridge. Some on the other side are saying that we don't have the will to win. This post is a response to Charles Birds post linked below.. Sorry I didn't have more time to do a better job.. :)

Al From and Bruce Reed on vision (they want debate)

Fri Mar 11, 2005 at 10:41:24 AM PDT

I am not a huge fan of The DLC, but I try to put the blame for losses in context. So I thought that maybe he is right that we need to ask ourselves some tough Questions. Let look at the start of his piece. HereHere it is in full.

Here are some simple truths every Democrat needs to hear. To win back the White House in 2008, our party must change. We must be willing to discard political strategies that may make us feel good but that keep falling short. We must finally reject the false choice between exciting our base and expanding our appeal, because unless we both motivate and persuade, we'll lose every time.

But above all, Democrats must be bold and clear about what we stand for. It's time to show the millions of people who can't tell what Democrats stand for that any American who believes in security, opportunity, and responsibility has a home in the Democratic Party.

Bill Clinton at Davos...

Sat Jan 29, 2005 at 10:22:36 PM PDT

Great speech on line at http://clients.world-television.com/worldeconomicforum_annualmeeting2005/_S13924.asp#

It is about an hour long... The excerpt below only gives you a general view of the event. He talks about Iran and the nuclear problems in a way that is refreshing. He talks about the middle east and the history of how the US has gotten were it is today. He is at his best and more honest than I have ever seen.

This is a short entry but it is a great interview with Charlie Rose at Davos at the world economic forum.

Rosenbergs assessment..& fowlers take on what the party needs to do...Who has the right vision f

Fri Dec 10, 2004 at 08:49:34 PM PDT

Rosenbergs post... Democrats need to start winning again - for the good of our country and for the health of our democracy. The Republican Party is in a position of dominance unseen in our lifetimes. Their misguided agenda threatens to put our country on a dangerous downward path. It is up to us to offer an alternative way - a vision for our country and a smart political strategy to implement it.

I have no doubt that in the coming weeks, the conversation about where Democrats need to go and how to get there will grow in intensity - as it should. It is a vital conversation that is essential to our party's future.

For the conversation to succeed in helping us tackle the challenges in front of us, it is crucial that we start first with an accurate assessment of where things stand today.
In the spirit of NDN's continuing mission to help build a better, stronger, winning Democratic party, here is our analysis of where we are. In coming days, we will outline our ideas for a path forward.

New declassified Doc. proves Frist lied...

Sat Nov 20, 2004 at 09:14:48 AM PDT

Short memories confer immunity on politicians, who are rarely accountable for the opportunistic, irresponsible or dishonest remarks they so often utter. In Washington's fetid culture of personal destruction, the powerful and privileged can trash an adversary's reputation without concern that the truth will embarrass them when it emerges months or years later. Consider the case of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.

Last March, Frist rose on the Senate floor to demonstrate his fealty to the White House by attacking Richard Clarke in the ugliest and most personal terms. Seeking to discredit the former counter-terrorism chief after his stunning appearance before the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, Frist essentially accused the former counter-terrorism chief of committing perjury.

But now we know who was telling the truth and who wasn't, thanks to the release of a newly declassified document.

The days of Cicero have passed...

Sun Nov 07, 2004 at 07:04:30 PM PDT

The talk of election fraud as big an issue as I feel that it is has gained us nothing. It has distracted us from looking at our gains and failures. Kerry bashing is also not doing anything for us as a party or group. There are good things and bad things we should learn from this. One is that GOTV is a big deal and needs to be an ongoing and constant part of the party and it's surrogates. Two we have a good platform for fund raising that needs to be expanded and improved upon. Three that fund raising and time in the two years before the primaries is just as important as during the election.

What has happened to CNN?

Sat Oct 02, 2004 at 07:51:55 AM PDT

Back in the time that CNN was owned by Ted Turner. It seemed to me that CNN was a truly balenced news company. I would say it was main stream fair. It was not left wing but it was honest. Why has this changed? Media matters has the spin comming from CNN who is not fox but is getting close. http://mediamatters.org/items/200410010011

Now I have wondered why they have decided on this course. The current CEO has supported both sides in politics but generally supports Bush.

He did give to Kerry in the primaries but some claim that might have been a fear of dean and his thoughts on media concentration. http://www.reclaimthemedia.org/stories.php?story=04/02/10/3838101

Disrespect for Missouri should not go unchallenged....

Wed Sep 08, 2004 at 05:58:37 PM PDT

Missouri the state I was born in has a motto of show me. It is a theme that basically says you can talk all you want but show me...

If bush is to scared to come and talk to all the citizens of Missouri and debate his challenger it will have an impact and if the media gets a big push it might help....

In my letter I am going to use the words disrespect and taken for granted and shameless. Describe the kids that have worked so hard to show case the two men running for our highest office. Also the town hall format is our only debate to question the candidate's directly by the people and it goes back to the disrespect meme....

So below is a link to every news paper in the state have at it and post when you can.. If we want Kerry to attack then we also need to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Or maybe all you latte drinking Volvo driving pinko's want four more years... :)

"Neo Con Spy Scandal Widens" "Is this Anti-semitic???"

Thu Sep 02, 2004 at 01:57:16 PM PDT

I write this because this is a reply I got posting this ealier.

"Jim Lobe's anti-Semitic rant (none / 0)

I just read Jim Lobe's wild anti-Semitic rant.  He says basically that Jews snap their fingers, and the US goes to war. This is nothing more than a redux of the World War II era anti-Semitica which blamed the Jews for death of all the US soldiers who died fighting the Nazis.
At this point I'm highly sceptical about whether the so-called spy scandal is anything more than an anti-Semitic witch hunt."

Spy Scandal's Roots are Deep
Jim Lobe argues that the FBI investigation that caught up Pentagon Iran expert Lawrence Franklin is much wider than initially thought, and focuses on the unauthorized transfer to Israel of highly sophisticated military software and designs. Since many Israeli arms merchants connected to the government in Tel Aviv sell to the black market, some of this military technology has ended up in the hands of countries that have poor relations with the US, and some may have ultimately been resold to al-Qaeda.
