Barack Obama and My Hope for the Future

This is my first diary so I hope it is read by at least a few people. I hope it empowers those who read it to give us someone we can be proud to call President of the United States.
Growing up during the Bush administration, I have witnessed first-hand the erosion of checks and balances in government. I have felt the despair of liberalism. I have felt the sting of a great land like America detaining people in Guantanamo Bay. I have seen our ethical land stoop to the level of torture. I have seen our great nation act with indifference towards the United Nations, a body that may very well prevent the destruction of nations. Not only has this government been usurped and poisoned to the core by neoconservative hacks, but the fundamental principles that America was founded on have been steadily broken and the hope for return to these principles has been stifled by a man with little foresight.
The last eight years have been a tragedy. In 2008, America will begin to heal itself.
