"Nancy Calls for Impeachment"
Thu Aug 16, 2007 at 11:01:50 AM PDT
August 9th marked the 33rd anniversary of Richard Nixon’s resignation in the face of impeachment. To commemorate the occasion, Democrats.com launched the Dump Dick Video Contest to encourage people to think about the historical parallels between Dick Nixon and Dick Cheney, and to question some of the specious arguments currently being made against impeachment (e.g. that it would be bad for the country, take too long, or prevent Congress from accomplishing other important work). None of these things held true in 1974, and they would even less so now.
After the jump, meet the winner of our contest...
The Dump Dick Videos Are In: Help Us Choose The Winner!
Thu Aug 09, 2007 at 12:27:55 PM PDT
Happy Dump Dick Day!
Today is the 33rd anniversary of Richard Nixon’s resignation in the face of impeachment. Of course, Tricky Dick was a rank amateur compared to Darth Cheney and The Decider.
To commemorate Dump Dick Day we started a contest to see who could make the best video comparing Nixon and Cheney, and making the case for impeachment. The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize.
Today was the deadline and all the entries are in. Now we need your help choosing the winner. All the videos are at the Dump Dick group on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/... For your viewing pleasure I've also pasted them all into this diary, below. You can rate the videos until noon EST tomorrow, August 10th. If there's no clear winner we'll then post the finalists on Democrats.com and ask people to vote one more time to choose a winner.
Check out the good, the bad, and the indescribably weird after the jump...
Honk to Impeach: It Really Works!
Fri Aug 03, 2007 at 09:56:27 AM PDT
With members of Congress taking their summer vacations this month, organizing a Honk to Impeach action outside their district offices is a great way to turn up the heat and give them a loud reminder that there's important business that the people want them to be doing right now!

Read more to see how this tactic may have influenced one Congressman to sign on to H. Res. 333.
Dump Dick Day Impeachment Video Contest
Wed Aug 01, 2007 at 02:38:49 PM PDT
August 9th (aka Dump Dick Day) is the anniversary of Richard Nixon’s resignation in the face of impeachment. Of course, Tricky Dick was a rank amateur compared to Darth Cheney and The Decider. They’ve not simply repeated his crimes—they’ve committed abuses of power beyond his wildest dreams.
Spineless Democrats try to justify their own inaction by saying that impeachment would divide the nation, take too much time, and ruin their plans to win the 2008 election. Well, the Nixon case disproves that bloviating nonsense. The proper use of impeachment didn’t traumatize our nation, but healed it. When Congress finally stood up to Nixon, he was gone in 3 months. And the Democrats won the biggest victories in recent memory in the elections that followed their decision to uphold the Constitution.
Democrats.com is offering a $1,000 prize for the best (according to popular vote) video that draws the parallels and makes the case for impeaching Cheney. Rules below the fold...

MoveOn finally utters the "I" word
Tue Jul 03, 2007 at 11:17:04 AM PDT
Many of us have been urging MoveOn.org for a very long time to call for impeachment--or at the very least ask their members if they would support it. Until today, however, they seemed more interested in giving the Democratic Party leadership a free pass on the issue than in rocking the boat by demanding accountability for the Bush administration.
It seems this is finally changing.
MoveOn to Impeachment
Tue May 08, 2007 at 11:20:18 AM PDT
For some time now, MoveOn has adhered closely to the Democratic party line, often to the dismay of members who feel the Democrats are not doing nearly enough to end the war or to pursue accountability through impeachment.
This may be changing.
MoveOn Finally Polls on Impeachment!
Thu May 03, 2007 at 09:39:21 PM PDT
For years now, MoveOn.org has declined to call for impeachment, saying that they didn't think their members wanted it. Then again, they never asked.
Well, as part of the growing momentum for impeachment, MoveOn has finally stepped up to the plate and is asking the American people "Do you think Congress should impeach President Bush?"
The Time Has Come: Major New Impeachment Campaign Launched
Thu Feb 22, 2007 at 08:45:57 AM PDT
The time has come to stop for us to stop debating the possibility of impeachment and start acting to make it happen NOW.
To achieve this, a rapidly growing network of organizations and individuals has launched a major new campaign to pursue the immediate impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney through widespread public protest, creative dissent, media activism, education, and coordinated lobbying. Members of the Impeach07 campaign believe that Bush and Cheney have committed high crimes and misdemeanors, including - among many others - misleading the nation into an aggressive war, spying in open violation of the law, and sanctioning the use of torture. The campaign is demanding that Congress Members hold Cheney and Bush accountable through the Constitutional remedy of impeachment.
