These days, the real surge is the democratic voter base expanding, getting active and involved in the primaries and putting their money where it counts, unlike the malaise the republican party has become.  The real news is a renewed progressive flavor to the elections and a fresh look at issues which only citizens seem to feel merit serious consideration and a "change in course." These include the continuing horror of Iraq, a failed economy, affordable health care, a corrupt administration and a country which has, according to all the polls, had enough of what passes for conservatism.
